It's interesting that we are all living similar lives. When I was in undergrad, I wanted to be an OB/GYN. When someone suggested nursing to me, I realized that fit the way I wanted to live my life WAY more, and changed career course. Now as a registered nurse, I'm switching over to doing wellness pedicure because working in the hospital is TRASH (at least in the US) and I want even more freedom of time and earning potential. And it also will allow me more flexibility with my daughter. Great video Jess. Enjoyed it.
Hi! I just stumbled upon your videos because I'm about to start my own Foot care business in Ontario Canada. Your videos have been super encouraging and helpful even though you're "across the pond" 😄 I also am starting the business to meet the needs of our family, after 12 years of being a Registered Practical nurse I'm tired of the shift work, working holidays and weekends. I have a 3 year old daughter and I don't want to miss this time with her. Thanks for making these videos! ❤👣❤
Hi :) :) Somehow I missed your message, thank you so much for the encouragement with my video content, I feel the same with not wanting to miss out with my kids, also for the flexibility too, I wish you well with your new business venture x x
Hi Jess, love your videos! I also trained at the Smae, but many years a go. I'm currently working like you, as a self employed part-time FHP and still love the work. It's certainly a wonderful job if you enjoy working for yourself, love talking to people, treating feet and assisting them in good foot care. Clients are usually so appreciative which adds to a good sense of purpose and commitment. Keep up the good work. Its worth it 👌
Thanks for been open about your history Jess. I am currently seriously considering studying being a foot health practitioner and watching your videos provides to support I have been looking for in order to made that decision. Keep sharing and posting dear. WHEN.... I get started, I will be watching your videos and asking questions. Thanks
Hi Jess, Thanks for sharing your story 😊 I currently work in the kitchen industry as a designer, but have decided I want to train as a FHP because I love helping people and feel working in the sales industry (although I'm good at it) doesn't suit my character, my mother in law was a chiropodist and I've been thinking about training as a FHP for a long time, but the timing hasn't been right until now. So going to be starting my theory training in the next couple of months once our office renovations are finished 😁 I'm so excited to get started ❤
Awe no way im studying with SMAE too!! My background is in adult nursing but i had to give it up for my kids 😭 defo a people person and miss health care. I currsntly own my own zero waste store in arbroath. But i can't wait to start. I paid for all mine together theory and practical. Trying to finish all my theory by march! 🙈🙈 I fell behind last year essay 8 is calling me 😫😫 ram horns mmmmm 😂😂😂x
Amazing, so same reason as me due to having kids...and again...AMAZING that you own a zero waste store, we need more don't we ❤. I love ram's horn nails hahaha!!! Most FHPs do as its so satisfying 🤣. Not long now til March!!! You must be excited. Its so freeing being self employed for me, wouldn't turn back x x
Hi Jess. I’m loving your videos and looking forward to more. I’m doing my practical training at SMAE in April. My background was palliative care then midwifery. I home educate my children and need something that can work around that as well as fulfil my love of working directly with patients.
Hi Becky, and wow, you're amazing! Palliative care and Midwifery. I love you midwives, you all took care of me during my 2 difficult pregnancies ❤. Funnily enough I've been considering home schooling, but it's still just a thought but definitely this type of job is ideal for those with a young family. Best of luck for April, you'll smash it 💪 x x
Similar story to yours. Was a home care assistant for 4 years, HCA in secondary care, qualified as a nursing associate (which I think is similar to the assistant practitioner) in 2019. I have been working in a GP since I qualified, about to revalidate 😳 I live in lincolnshire and am not sure where I can do this course. Do you do 12 months of theory with most courses and then go on to do the practical? I was just thinking about how far I would need to travel for the practical. I'm glad I found your videos 😊
Hi Hannah, yes, most you have up to 12 months to complete the theory ehich is done in your own time. When it comes to the practical, it's usually 2 weeks x x
Hi Yetunde, thats great that you feel encouraged, it encourages me too receiving these nice comments from you all. If you have Instagram you can contact/inbox me there @_notapod
As a sole director, you can’t claim SMP (statuary maternity pay), how did you overcome this when you had your second child? Were you working solely as a FHP or still employed by the GP practice?

Yes you can be paid SMP as a self employed sole trader x x
They work out how much National Insurance you've paid I believe, and from that will let you knownif you are entitled to the full amount or part x x
I think most FHPs plan 10yrs ahead
