I went on a public day with NO PRESS APPOINTMENTS so you know EXACTLY what it is like to visit the fair as a regular, non-industry person.

I was there last year 2023, and went on Sunday and Monday this time around. If I compare this year to last year, the watches overall across all brands were not as great, but the experience on a visitor standpoint was better. You just have to really plan ahead though.
I made a new friend there (who's from Germany) on a Monday who met you and your husband the day before, and I got jelly because I also wanted to meet you both 🥲

It's great that you mention Piaget. Their sales consultants are absolutely amazing. My 18 yr old son went into the Sydney Australia boutique and was treated so generously, showing him the entire range and he tried on their top tier watches. They certainly are focused on the potential customer. It's what we all want as watch enthusiasts !! Thanks for a great video 👍👍

The problem I have with W&W is that year on year it's increasingly geared towards very wealthy customers, and as Jenni said, you can often see it in the booth design. The warmth of the "mid tier" brand, like Nomos and Frederique Constant, stood out for me, otherwise it's a cold museum-like experience. IMO the best experience is actually to be around Geneva that week (the "pirate" event and brands, as the Rolex CEO just called them). The "Time to Watches" event at the HEAD, see the dozens of independents exhibiting at the Beau Rivage, or the "Masters of Horologie" at L'iceBergues. At those events, can handle their watches, talk directly to the brand reps, share your love of watches, make friends and contacts - it's great!

Ehh, not really. The reason she wasn't treated as a VIP is because she didn't request VIP treatment. If she had, she almost certainly would've gotten it given the size of her audience (a YT watch channel with 331k subs is almost certainly enough to get you some sort of media/VIP pass for the event that would've gotten her into the restricted areas).

Jenni, thanks so much for this "real" point of view of the event. So refreshing to see vs other youtubers who are treated as VIP and only have good things to say about brands. Sure, this is a trade show but it also shows the Swiss watch industry is still traditionally catered towards its distributors and dealers. They still don’t view the end user or collector as their customer. Brands that realize and treat everyone as their customer would do well. It’s all about having fun! You’d be surprised what people will buy after a few drinks and having the time of their lives. What they should have done on these public days is raise the price of admission to cover expenses, maybe $200 I think it’s reasonable then transform into an end user friendly approach with free food, drinks, giveaways and invite near by dealers that can actually transact, take pictures and maybe even get an autograph from brand CEOs with their newly acquired watch, just a super friendly environment of friends sharing the passion. Like the IWC roadshow where someone asked if something is for sale and the answer is yes! Everything is for sale! Zero barriers to someone wanting to buy a watch is a great feeling and experience, that creates lifelong customers, not waitlists. As far as Patek? Well, it’s Patek known for its snobbishness and old world ways so I wouldn’t even be surprised.

"Bigger the booth or brand the less they cared" Best comment yet from anyone. This echos shoppers experience going into high end watch stores in the U.S. You go in wearing a Seiko one is almost ignored. Go in next day with Panerai or Rolex they roll out the red carpet. Not a great way to get the next generation into watches.

Had the opportunity to meet Jenni and Kai there (and even made a cameo appearance 😅 in the vid). They are even more amazing in person than behind the camera. It was a pleasure meeting you two and hope to see you next year and chat about our recent watch purchases.
Also agree on your commentary about the show. My favorite part (1st year also) was the smaller brands and the touch and feel sessions. We had private showings with Zenith, Vacheron, Tag, and Cartier all of which were great. Zenith and Vacheron especially had really extraordinary experiences and we tried on a bunch of novelties and current catalog watches.
Was great to see, touch and try on the limited edition Tangente 38s, solely because of this (and the cards the NOMOS team was gracious to give me), I am actively looking to get two for my wife and I. Also got to try on a Ressence type 1 which I probably would have never been able to do (it’s awesome and now on the “list”).
A lot of the other brands (Rolex, Tudor, Chopard, Patek, JLC) left much to be desired as the “behind the glass” experience was only marginally better than just viewing the watches online.

I too am a lowly commoner, but I was wearing my Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence and visited the Zurich Chopard boutique the week prior, and they gave me their number and said to reach out if I wanted a private touch and feel session during W&W...which I did and got! I also just found an employee in the Vacheron Constantin booth and just started talking watches with him, and recommended I check back in a few hours, which I did, and got a private session! So there are ways around it. Also, not every brand did this, but at the info desks you can sign up for group touch and feel sessions and I managed to schedule that with Zenith and H. Moser. I missed my session with Parmigiani Fleurier bc I found Andrew Morgan and we talked for quite a while. Tried on his friend's 5811 too :O

As someone with a friend into watches who lives within train distance of Switzerland and might plan a visit in the future, this was a useful guide. I appreciate the no special treatment insight.
Though not doing a video looking at each of the Nomos special edition Tangentes and demonstrating the correct pronunciation in German for all of them feels like a missed opportunity

Why is Patek even at the convention if they don’t allow the public to enter their booth ?

Nice to meet you there., Great job!. I enjoy the event too and I had the same oppinion about VIP areas. However, provided that normally this event was not open to public there is no need to complain

Loved the video! Very real and constructive! Good reporting! Short question though: Was Grand Seiko present?

This year´s experience was much better than last year´s; much more interaction with the brands was possible. I participated in 3 „touch-and-feel“-sessions - with Chopard, Moser and Parmigiani. If you want to handle the pieces of Patek Philippe, you can go to the salon in the city center of Geneva where you would also be able to see the „Rare Handcrafts“.

i went last year and it was definitely much more crowded and the lines were quite long. it's good to see that this year looks more comfortable with less people.

Economic reality is setting in even for the wealthy. Not sure how this grossly over-priced watch market will survive in the next several years.

The whole concept of VIPs is a joke. Every person or potential customer is a very important person. This reminds me of the tale of King Thrushbeard! Great video Jennie!
