For the first two nights, my puppy was more than happy to sleep in her crate next to my bed all night long with no issues. The next night and every other night thereafter she would cry and dig at the bars for hours (has no problem sleeping in her crate during the day, however). Finally, my sleep deprived self just let her snuggle up next to us in our bed and we haven't had any problem getting sleep since. I feel like I've made way too many rule compromises with this dog, but I got to do what works.

Same here! It doesn’t matter if she can see us, she wants to be ON us. She soaked the corner of her pet bed biting on it from stress
and barked for almost an entire hour. These are great guidelines but every puppy is different so you have to adapt the tips to how their nature is I think and go from there.

Yeah it works and honestly that's what the vet said to do but you can't just let him have freedom and get his way. It'll make it harder in the future to get him in a crate for any reason
@@Kikiconsilienceit’s my second day and he’s been doing pretty well, I’ve only been making mistakes at the beginning of the night really with how much to exercise when trying to get to know him. The first night I got him out but too early so it was hard for him to sleep at first and last night we didn’t exercise enough I was a bit sleep deprived (good all day but ended up worrying too much on night schedule and so it all caught up to me) since I’m the only one taking him out ever 2 hours. We got him enough that he went to bed good the first time but was up and had too much energy the second time so I just exercised him a bit then and around 5 since I feel bad that I didn’t do it enough, I’ve been indulging his whines so far because of the change in environment but I’m not sure if when to stop
This works! I followed this when I got my puppy in May and had his crate on a bench next to my bed for a few weeks. He never cried once, never had an accident. I did give him soft bedding but it worked for us. I also highly recommend putting a Snuggle Puppy with the heartbeat in with them. He’s now 9 months old and has always been an awesome sleeper!

I did this and my dog would wake up and be ready for the day anytime I rolled over lol.
We’ve been doing this with our puppy since we got her (almost a week) and it’s been working out great but she already shows signs of separation anxiety so I worry a little that it’s going to be hard to wean her off. But currently sleeping is more important.
My family got two puppies 2 weeks ago and just a few days after we got them they were sleeping through the night, idk why but I’m not complaining
So true. My husband saw our bullmastiff puppy squat to go poo and he ended up pulling out the pink fleece blanket we’d put in her crate. 😵💫
The problem is this this is that they can see you so they will cry for attention also cuz they don’t wanna be in there rather if you left them alone there would be nobody to cry to and they will give up easily

I have done this as they recommended and, while I’m sure every puppy is a bit different, it worked like a dream! Two nights and our puppy was no longer crying or whining unless he had to go - and after four nights he slept through the night at 8 1/2 weeks!! They benefit to this is that they can see and hear you so it’s comforting but you cannot open their crate while they’re whining. The first two nights were a bit rougher but honestly since then it’s been amazing!

@@klclaire1118oh my goodness you give me hope, he’s been doing ok at 2 nights but I put my fingers in to get him to lay down which has been working but I’m not sure how long to indulge in his day whines because of change in environment, he’s perfect besides that.
it's gonna be 3 am and I made my puppy sleep somehow, after crying for hours this dude is sleeping and snoring, WOW 😮💨

Mine whines & howls even if the crate is on my lap.
Some dogs get really Traumatized from being put in kennels at a young age even if the person who’s doing it is trained, so just a reminder, not all dogs should be crate trained especially Chiweenie’s or small dogs

i am allergic to dogs among other things and i have designated our bedroom as dog free so i have at least one room that i can escape to if needed. have any advice for me? yes i take meds.
I leave my pupy alone 7 hours durin gthe night what i sleep but she has a big crate one of those fenced in puopy things like 20 sq ft one corner she uses bathroom other she sleep and beside that she has her toys

It’s 3:13 and my pug will not sleep every time I let her out she doesn’t go but she goes in her crate I can’t be mad since she is only a puppy but pugs… they scream… alot

Can I leave my puppy’s crate open inside it’s playpen at night? I’m following the steps to crate training my puppy, but it’s still pretty early on and he isn’t at a stage where he’s can be in the crate with the door closed.
I’m doing this exact thing. She won’t sleep in her crate but will right outside if it in her playpen. She was used to open space with mom and litter mates. I’m slowly going to ease her in there each day. At this very moment it’s her first night at her new home. She’s a Golden Cockapoo 8 1/2 weeks old.
