Here's Everything That's WRONG With My CHEAP Infiniti "Luxury Sedan"

  • I bought this 1996 Inifinti J30t "Personal Luxury Sedan" and it was cheap. It's powered by the Nissan 300ZX drivetrain with the 3.0L V6 turning a 4 speed automatic that sends it's power through a limited slip diff to the rear wheels. Even though it sounds like a great package it's definitely broken and has been misfiring since I picked it up. Today we're going to dive in, figure out whats wrong with it and try to get it running right.

    Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make UA-cam videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Honestly, that's the kind of WatchJRGo content I like to see; the rare, weird, quirky stuff that I forgot existed!!! I don't care about exotics, fancy luxury or german cars. Unless it's a quirky german car, like a Corrado, Scirroco, VW Golf Country or something else special. I did like that twin turbo Audi S4 though, and a first gen Audi A8 would be sick as well!

Update from yesterdays comment. THE STRUT REBUILD IS COMPLETE. You have to use about 12 washers to fit the Lumina Cartridge and it has about 3/4 of an inch shorter travel. But it works, surprisingly.

Since you don't have a keyless fob I'll tell you something that's pretty cool. If all the doors are locked one turn will unlock the driver's door, two turns will unlock the passengers door and if you then turn it and hold it all the windows will roll down halfway.

The best tip I've had for those heat shrink solder connectors is get the gun up to temp, turn off, point close dorectly at the low temp solder, turn on full blast, then start the wiggles. Especially for old worn out wiring. We all know heat cycles are the death of plastic, and that insulation was already Arizona smoke shop baked before the rats. I've used it on old electronics and had great results

Yes, check all injector wires and inside connection points between injector and connector tips for corrosion. You can also compression test to confirm a bad injector. 90s models were worse with bad motor mounts, broken manifold bolts, and leaking exhaust. The vg engine was the best one in my opinion.

My aunt had one of these and drove it hard! It started getting exhaust leaks which her moron son told her was engine knock and she needed to sell it. So she sold it for way less than what it was worth and bought an 08 Honda Odyssey instead. The timing belt went and that took the engine out. and then I got a 2012 Altima...that broke too when the transmission went. Then a 350Z which her son modified by welding the diff and putting an angle kit on it. So she wrecked it one day by over rotating. 3 cars down because of an exhaust leak...and an idiot child

measure the resistance of the injectors. factory should be around 12-15 omhs. and the first with the silent clicking would probby be high resistance = not enough fuel if it is shut or more likely to much fuel couse its open and that is why the spark looks so fouled. or a burned valve/bad rings.

I’ve always unplugged spark plugs and coils while diagnosing an engine and never had problems so I don’t know why so many are complaining about it. It’s not a race engine with extremely tight tolerances. Maybe it’s just something our generation does because we’ve learned it from the generation before us and the newer generations rely on the computers too much.

Z32 cylinder 1 injector was the most common to fail. You could change by taking a dremel to the edge of the intake and get a long Philips on the injector. They would fail electrically. Check resistance when cold. If I recall a good reading is 10 to 12 ohms

Weirdly useless info about this car. I think the chief designer said the shape was inspired by a toilet bowl. Imagine taking a clay impression of the inside of a toilet bowl. Take that clay mold, flip it around, bam you have the Infiniti J30/Nissan Leopard. Also you could get the V8 out of the Q45 in the JDM version of this car. Really stupid that they didn't offer this the USA, especially considering how much Japan taxes the hell out of you for engines above 3.0 liters of displacement.

Try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery, then connecting a bench adjustable power supply across the battery. Set the voltage of your PSU to 30v or so, and set the current limiter to 1A. You'll see current likely near zero. After a few hours, it might start conducting - the PSU voltage will fall as it hits the set 1A limiter. I've had success doing this on about half a dozen batteries that were left discharged for a long time now. That said, if it was left to freeze while discharged, it's toast.

Do you ever try adding water to the cells of a dead battery? I’ve done this to my motorcycle battery and it came back to life.
