So... the data at the beginning of the video is wrong. It is Day 13, at this point we've sailed 1550 nautical miles and have 450 to go. I realized this at uploading hour 18 of 24 and really didn't have the heart to start the process over to correct my mistake ;)
SV Delos hard such a hard time with internet speed in Andaman Islands that it was faster for them to simply mail SD card to united states and have it uploaded from there. 😂
Your Atlantic passage is the best series of sailing videos I've ever seen. I love your candor and humor and the courage it takes to expose yourselves to a sea of strangers during the greatest adventure of your lives. This is art.
Thanks for taking all the time to make & upload this and your other videos! Much appreciated, especially during these boredom-buster times. Awesome voyage.
Other cruisers lose weight on passages probably because there is no French cook on board 😉👍.Ah! The dilemma of what spares and how many is considered enough!
You two have done so well and learned so much. Also I think that you are doing so well for two people on their own, you're really getting on well. Even in the tough times, you're getting through really well.
They getting better and better and you seem notwithstanding murphy to have got your mojo going. Ryan certainly proving his tech skills on the fly. And Sophie tgose bread combos have me drooling. You should be very proud of your progress and achievements
Well guy's you can probably tell with the comment spacing that I am now binge watching your adventures. You are such a couple of naturals for a comedy duo..Ryan is a born straight man and you have the perfect sense of humour, you see humour everywhere....your look to camera when Ryan said the "bolt" thing made me laugh out loud. And it's all perfectly natural which makes it all the more funny. Very happy that I found your channel.
This was a great raw commentary of how frustration, sleep deprivation and fatigue can be a daily partner in a long crossing with limited crew. Sophie, you are amazing with your ever present optimism. When things get tough, you make cookies!!! Get a water maker so she can shower Ryan. Great vid! Hope the quarantine area you are in is friendly.
Thanks for taking us with in this passage. Sophia breads look delicious goodspeed guys enjoy and have fun, great catch rayan even wen sleping you made a great fisherman lol
You two are hilarious, Ryan I love it when you catch a fish and have to kill it........Sophie, your baking and cooking always make me hungry. Love your accent......As we used to say in the navy........Bravo Zulu...........Cheers.
Great again. You guys are fun to watch. You don't loose weight because you have a French gal on board that is not afraid to cook. It does not look like Ryan has much room to loose weight either, so good on the cooking.
.... Hey all bin a while since I've had the opportunity to watch .... good to see you are doing great and dealing with hiccups as the a arise ..... have you thought of separating out the cockpit lights so there still light there when other things fail as they did here, even maybe go for red so you don't loose your night eyes ..... goodness that bread sure looked delicious, pains me as a year ago was told I am full blown diabetic and have taken care of it with diet (meat and veggies) and exercise, still seeing you concocting that bread and sampling was great ..... love how the two if your discuss the trials and tribulations and what to do in future to alleviate the possibility of a situation in the future ..... never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .... have fun be safe, save our oceans ......
Crimper and other electrical connection repairs: They now have tiny handheld butane torches. These can solder and shrink tubing. Just a torch, solder, and a selection of heat shrink tubing, and you can cobble up almost any electrical fix.
We just purchased our first boat. We take delivery in January. Thank you for letting us preview what may be our future. Thank you for taking the time to make all these amazing videos. Endless laughter and a little hmmm not all sunny hammock days... what are we about to do? :)
Looking at your spice rack, suggest you ditch it and get a couple of wooden ones and modify them, space them out with each bottle having its own compartment, line the base with the non slip cloth eg your orange one, also in your galley have that on all surfaces.
Perhaps add a spiral ratchet screwdriver (can be used for manual drilling as well as driving) , an impact driver + hammer and a couple of lengths (100') of pre stretched dyneema to your toolkit/spares collection. Also consider getting a good quality ratchet crimper, some liquid insulation tape and a handful of relays and terminal blocks.
Ryan was playing a game on his phone again around 21 minutes? Oh I know it was navigation...;) lol, awesome videos guys, just like being there, without the motion.
Watching this video and listening to you complain about the failure of all your parallel electronics makes me grateful for my Monitor windvane and simple mechanical instruments. I know it’s nice having all that streamlined but when it fails at 2:30 am makes me think Poseidon are punishing you for your reliance on fancy gadgets.
I loved this vid. As we are on lock down in the USA it is similar to a crossing. AND I am blowing up like a tick on a fat dog. Sleep, Eat, Drink... Rinse and repeat!
The same here "Down Under". My oven has been working overtime since "lockdown". Even my adult sons have been baking delicious creations. They have to scrub up on the cleaning up though. Hang in there everybody. We are going to beat this thing. Keep safe
Astrid Postma unfortunately I sort of feel the virus has won this round. I’m more in the camp of, “hang in there and hopefully we’ll survive this round.” Just gotta make it to the bell.
Hi, i just watched your video, keep up the good work. 2 years ago we made a trip around the atlantic aboard our Beneteau Oceanis 43 of 2010. I am a bit astonisched you have so many things breaking down, since we had almost no damage. 1 block at the mast food exploded ( very probably our own fault) and we had an electronics failure of the autopilot. I changed with the spare one. Can you maybe make a short video of the failures you encountered and how you fixed or handled them ? This would be very helpfull to us, since we are preparing a next (longer) trip for next year and this information can help us on the list of spareparts we are taking with us. We have a lot of spares, but your exeperience seems very interesting to us. One concern for us was that our rudder post (the wooden construction which holds the rudder post) did make a lot of squeaking noise during the passage. So much that we even tweaked down the rudder reaction from the autopilot. We are thinking of reinforcing this construction, e.g. by replacing with same construction in solid fiberglass laminated to the hull. Did you expeiience these annoying noises ? What are your impressions ont this ?
You are brave to go on film when you are so tired and disgusted. Why do men have so much patience compared to us? Patrick can be so exhausted and things not going well, and still he is so kind to me. Ryan seems to be the same in that way. Thanks for sharing this. For a sailor that has been in lockdown for too long and is eager to sail off to another continent...this is a good reminder to not set off tomorrow.-Rebecca
Aw thanks for that lovely comment! Yes, Ryan is amazing to me when I’m tired and down. He’s super supportive and always lets me sleep when I’m exhausted. He gets under fire a lot for how his anxiety makes him lose it now and then, so it is really appreciated when somebody notices his kind side :) /Sophie
Ryan & Sophie Sailing I juts recognized a lot of Patrick in him...not just this video but other too. Believe me...Patrick has his side where he loses it on occasion too, but it always amazes me how he can be so nice when the habit starts. I can do that so well :) -Rebecca
We carry 3 crimpers, a ratchet for red, blue and yellow insulated crimps, a 4 to 12mm tool for insulated and uninsulated lugs plus a 130 to 12mm hydronic crimped great as long as you have the lugs to crimp!
Hey Sophia, next time doing the medical thing on the foot, if you can’t num the area, try a nerve block near the lateral knee or perhaps the ankle. Ryan will thank you.
Sorry Ryan. Baseball comes from England and a form called Rounders is still a popular schoolyard game. Modern baseball rules for the game as it’s now known did originate in the US. Oh, and basketball was invented by a Canadian 😜
Also use your crimper but then solder it in there. You need a soldering iron on a boat! Electrical connections that are not soldered will eventually corrode and fail.
This video is a very good argument for not having integrated systems. Fortunately you were able to repair the junction box. Had you been unable to do so, you would have been a bit "up the creek". But with a wind vane, paper charts and hand held GPS (or even a sextant and sight reducution tables), you would be fine even with a broken junction box. These integrated systems are great when they work. But it is a boat, so they will fail at some point. It is just a question of when.
I'm not much on pain either ! I've got major back problems and to date I've had 3 spinal taps and about a dozen spinal injections with no Sedation and let me tell you about pissing your pants kinda pain plus you cant move the hole time !
I love your channel although I only recently found you on UA-cam. You are quite inspiring and it’s a very interesting and honest journey that you share with us, but man, sometimes Ryan really needs an attitude check.
At the time I saw this you guys are at Saint Martin Island according to marinetraffic.com. I guess you are stuck there because all countries have closed there borders. Not a bad place to be. Love your bungy cord coffee machine operation. Hope every thing stays in one piece. If i would ad one thing to a boats spare (parts ) it would be a big kite. You never know if you are going to lose your mast in a big storm. A kite will get you moving without a mast or diesel. And a drogue as well but maybe you have that already. And of course some extra shorts just in case you have to change them in a hurricane. Haha.
I don't know how you helm at night looking at your feet. Why don't you get your heading then look forward to see a star near your mast and keep it that distance from the mast. So must easier and smoother than chasing a number on a screen or compass
Another great lunchtime video. Thank you. Now where did we put the choc chips? Clearly not a navy pilot. In the navy it was an offence to have bare feet on deck, worthy of Commander's table, especially if you injured your foot. The charge would be something like "damaging navy property (your feet) whilst willfully disobeying a standing order". Second offence would be "deliberate self harm".
i like the fish shot....the fish caught itself ...was neglected and tired out....easily reeled in.... and then we taktriumfantly take a picture....Ryan if it werent on a whole vlog id say youre a fake.....joking I always like your vids. Pardon the saytre.
Your partner says, "I'm really frustrated", and you answer "Ok". This is not close, loving, supportive. Then, asking your partner "How do we have a good day?", is not positive reinforcement. This puts others on the defensive . . . , and then arguing with your lover when he says "You look nice today!", this is almost a deal breaker . . . , but, carry on. And, I hope my partner and I come off better on our UA-cam channel. Love and Peace to both of you! PS. Credit to you for sharing the down sides . . .

Diane Swift well said beautifully put!!
These sailing vlogs are some of the most interesting sailing videos I have ever watched!
You two are fun, love the playfulness of the video...The Spirit Of Play...Blessings of love and kindness to both of you...
Things fail, no rhyme or reason why, good thing Ryan is handy. You were prepared for most and will learn from this experience. At least you were safe.
That’s what we told ourselves! It’s always annoying to deal with breakage, but we made it work in the end :)
You should always crimp and solder your elec conections in any thing that moves( 4x4 or boat)
I always click like one you're videos the first nanosecond, because I know I will like it.
Thanks for taking all the time to make & upload this and your other videos! Much appreciated, especially during these boredom-buster times. Awesome voyage.

A beautiful French cook at that.

Love that red glow on Ryan when he is messing with the bad relay, very Hellish!

These daily vlogs are great!
Keeping it real, loving how you work through adversity.
Keep some alcohol handy when you catch a fish. A squirt of vodka, Rum, alcohol on the gills will stop the flopping almost instantly.

Of course you’re not hungry Sophie you ate all that chocolate bread.
@22:00 don´t feel bad Sophie Im sure we were all laughing, but hey your fishing seems to be better than other boating channels I´ve watched ja да
Missing your smile!
Well done Nurse I think you quite enjoyed inflicting Ryan with some pain !
23:28 " I do not understand the people who lose weight on long passages". Perhaps the most French thing I have ever heard. Much respect from Texas.
Ahhh Sophie, you missed another chance for another "that's what she said" @11:56 Ryan "like, I don't have a big bolt to shove in something".
rentiap haha she didn’t miss it, that look on her face said it she didn’t say it out loud 😂🤣

Soldering kit, as part of your spares? Ratcheting crimper kit, small to large, (16 AWG - 4/0 AWG)? Just a thought.
Cheers
Shopie: What is more hard, difficult and challenging, crossing the Atlantic or an Ironman
Sophie's cooking corner 👍👍
Sorry Ryan. Baseball comes from England and a form called Rounders is still a popular schoolyard game. Modern baseball rules for the game as it’s now known did originate in the US. Oh, and basketball was invented by a Canadian 😜
Ryan carry some threaded bar for emergency repair , you can cut to any length.
Or just stainless rod and a tap and die set.
Also use your crimper but then solder it in there. You need a soldering iron on a boat! Electrical connections that are not soldered will eventually corrode and fail.

There are spare relay sockets, especially for the common 30A 12V Bosch type relays. Or, Faston QD fittings can be used instead of a socket.
Great episode guys! I've been following you guys since episode 1 and really enjoyed it. What sailing school did you go to again early on?
I'm not much on pain either ! I've got major back problems and to date I've had 3 spinal taps and about a dozen spinal injections with no Sedation and let me tell you about pissing your pants kinda pain plus you cant move the hole time !
The kind of fish you don' t find often in the super market

Butter on warm chocolet bread? Sign me up! Bon soir.
Sophie is the love of my life! She always looks so beautiful! Oh No...Ryan got a boo boo
No freezer - but a French cook! On the other hand: a freezer you don´t have won´t break.
Ryan the first word spoken from the moon was Houston, then the eagle has landed. Every pilot should be able to figure that one out
Well... if we want to get very technical. The first word was "shutdown". Followed by "Houston, tranquility base here, the egal has landed" ;)
At the time I saw this you guys are at Saint Martin Island according to marinetraffic.com. I guess you are stuck there because all countries have closed there borders. Not a bad place to be. Nice fish, what dose that type taste like
Filter coffee the antidote to all problems
Really big!
Ryan... How long have we had a fish for? :)
Hahaha! :)
You can not have to many spares?
I don't know how you helm at night looking at your feet. Why don't you get your heading then look forward to see a star near your mast and keep it that distance from the mast. So must easier and smoother than chasing a number on a screen or compass

The first word uttered from the Moon was “Houston”
I’ve never understood why some boaters wire everything into one relay....
We neither, the boat came that way 😐
the fish is called "dolphin"., In italy is =lampuga"
ryan is the relay 12 24 0r 48 volts
Sophie you are a Drama queen ;)
It won't be long now!
.ost Ryan evrr spoke. I guess he is now used to the passage. High 5

" Houston, Tanquility base here. The Eagle has landed" is how it went.
Pretty sure it was “Houston TRANQUILLITY base here”.......but we all make mistakes......🥴🐟🧐🤦♂️

Omg. These two cannot really be together in real life. Why would she be with him? Never mind their combined IQ can't sum up to 175.
You do not know what you are talking about. What a rude comment too.
But at least that would be 174 more than yours.
There is a saying you need to familiarize yourself with; If you can not say something nice, say nothing at all.
Jealous.?
