Ryan. Get a spray water bottle for the Magma. Cools things down. Works a treat when there is danger of boat fire. 🤣Sail safe guys Ant, Cid & the Pooch crew.
"This is much better than the best rigging book you could buy.... you learn a lot more from other people" - Ryan's words of wisdom!
All good preparations...nice video...enjoyed watching it! -Rebecca on SV Brick House
I am enjoying your videos. Its good to see beginners stumble through the learning phases of sailing, all us sailors started there.
You two have come a long way congratulation
Have a spray bottle of water for the BBQ to stop flame ups... U 2 r doing great
😂😝😜🤣 prepping for a crossing is serious.... good job making us laugh and learn something too... Joyeux Noël de Montréal, Canada
As always you 2 impress greatly Thanks for sharing. Much love From Canada
Nice that you were on the way, lots of preparation for a smoother sail.
Luv you two! Merry Christmas and safe winds.
You two are absolutely amazing!!!
You guys are literally living the dream!!
Looking forward to the crossing uploads.
Happy Holidays, Hold Fast, much love from Cape Town, South Africa!!
Seem so much more relaxed this season.. Must be lacking some anxiety :) Hope your crossing is going well!
Belated Merry Christmas and an early Happy New Year guys. I've just started watching your channel after checking out many others. Your circumstances are the closest to my own, so I'll be watching all your content with huge interest. I think a Beneteau 40 would also suit me best, but I have plenty of time to try out different boats. Sophie, you are hilarious and your presenting and editing are exemplary. Ryan, I love your laconic style and I love how you complement each other. I'm at the Kiel Canal episode, so a long way behind, but hugely enjoying every minute of your content. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and if we cross paths in port, the first round is on me :)
Merry Xmas to you guys !!! Hope you have a good one wherever you are!!!!
Had a guy give me a spinnaker for my Prindle 19, had to make my own snuffer. So amazing what kind people will do.
I liked this part 2 where you showed the projects and gave feed back on the good and could have been better. As of writing this you are both about 80 nm from Martinique according to the tracker. Almost there! It has been a great 2019 and looking forward to your 2020 adventures. Happy New Year!
Hi
No need for a tube for gennaker, raise and lower like we do on racing boats behind the Genoa for safety, just try to keep out of water!
Love that twin foresails on one foil! That the right way to do it! Do you have Twin groves? One think watch for wear at the mast fitting with the poles.
Cheers Warren
A lovely video you two! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Fair winds!
Hey Sohpie (and Ryan)…First - what a refreshing sailing channel. My gf and I have been following you since the beginning. We embark to a similar journey as you next April, starting in Greece, across the med and then over the Atlantic. We are looking for a rigger prior the crossing to check our rigging - could you recommend yours? Would you mind giving me his contact? Thanks - and fair winds! Philipp - depuis la Suisse ;)
I never sailed with a dual head sail. it makes sense if your journey is mostly down wind. Ill need to consider it as well for light conditions. Do you have a fishing rod holder off the stern? Its a good way to troll for dinner. It would be a good video to go through a complete 24 hour day when transiting with just two people. People don't really understand how busy you are with all the tasks you have plus basic needs like eating, sleeping and watch standing. You are correct about the open cockpits, great for fun but not secure for open seas in heavy weather. A single wheel cockpit is more secure in my opinion. A center cockpit can be wetter unless you have a windshield, being that it is further forward, that and the aft stateroom is so roomy that at sea you will be rolling all over the place right out of the center-line bunk!
I would say that if you like the Beneteaus, you could have selected the Oceanis 411 or 393 owners versions. They have the single wheel cockpits, with primary winches back at the helm. I will be looking at one of those for my next boat. A little older than your 2007 but great sailing boats. I too prefer the Beneteau designs, they do that Euro look very well. The other bad and good thing about the twin wheel cockpits is the amount of canvas needed to cover the cockpit is very much bigger than a standard single wheel cockpit. I imagine it creates a bit amount of drag on performance when fully assembled but it is a nice looking feature when anchored.
Good luck
Middletown Mike
Merry Christmass to you both. Mods are looking great!
Love the bbq. Good luck with your crossing.
Thank you 4 sharing. Great show :-)
I would like to have sen the new auto pilot install :-(
Fair Winds and Following seas ⛵
Cheers,
Jay
What a fun vlog episode !!! ✨💕✨🎄✨🌟✨
Great update! Fair winds.
Merry Christmas folks, and have a healthy & happy new year.
Great video as always, a Very Happy Christmas and New Year to you Both , Fair Winds
Merry Christmas Happy New Year. Great video, can you give a little more detail about the auto pilot? May God bless your travels with fair winds and following seas.
thanks for the funny update :-) Merry Chrismas and happy new year
A boom preventer can be rigged with a soft shakle on the boom and one line on each side on deck to a cleat and a bowling to the soft shackle as required. Cheap but works. The magma grill will lose its luster soon, but it's awesome. Fair winds and stay safe.
Could we possibly look forward to some Ryan cook out episodes. With tips on how not to burn your bimini etc.? Looking forward to vicariously crossing the Atlantic in future episodes.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year !
It looks like you guys are about 1/2 way there? Sofia's updates are really good! Merry Christmas guys and we will see you on the other side. GOD bless. JC
Have you ever looked at the polars, to see is twin headsails, wing on wing, is faster or slower than gybjng off downwind? Not what feels faster, but what the polars confirm for the best VMG?
You have a modern hull design, wing on wing is usually an easy--but much slower--way to go downwind. Just curious to see what the numbers (or Beneteau) have to say about that.
I have liked your videos from the beginning, keep up the good work. As a point of information Sailing SV Bora Bora frequently employs two head sails. Last season they made the same trip from the Med to the Caribbean that you are making now. They continued from the Carib up to NY city. Maybe you can pick up a few twin head sail tips from their videos. Best wishes for your crossing.
Merry Christmas folks.
I just want to wish you kids a Merry Christmas, with much love and prayers. Be blessed in Jesus name... BBE..
Good morning, which autopilot is the one you like now? Thank you for your time.
The audio seems to have gotten much better! Did you guys start using a lapel mic or something? The Rode Micro is what I've been using and it works great
That’s Patreon magic and the ability I had to buy a new microphone (Rode videomic pro, thank you Patrons! 💜). With that said, sound is pretty challenging to get right in an outdoor/marine environment. I’m still figuring it out! /Sophie
@@RyanSophieSailing I have that microphone also, but havent used it much yet. For what it's worth, I think you're doing a fine job with your videos!
Two headsail, easiely controlable, much better than a parasailor, add a windvane and you have the perfect bluewater sailingboat
Excellent video/sound quality. Well when are you going to sew up a sock for your gennaker? A crazy squall out of nowhere comes and you have to take her down in minutes possibly by yourself. Oh wait you probably already know that by now.
So Good! :)
Merry Christmas 👍🙂
well, if the flames are less than two feet tall, it is just a minor flare-up in the barbie world.....
Compliments of the season.
Keep a spray bottle nearby to use when you have a flair-up.
You to have a Merry Christmas …
I really enjoy your videos. Lets me sail virtually. :-)
Merry Christmas
Love it!
Running cables on most boats is so terrible because most boat builders don’t build in chases for cables. It never ceases to amaze me. Every boat should have oversized to chases.
❤️🎥
Cherish every moment. I’m 73. Paralyzed right hand. Cherish every moment.
No way running wire is worse than playing with the brown trout while fixing the head.
Either they were just messing with you, or maybe by listing it as paper vases, they were able to avoid some taxes or tariffs or something like that.
Y'all crack me up, Sophie if and when you get tried of the cruising life you should really look into doing stand up comedy, I think you would be amazing. God bless and stay safe. Merry Christmas!
l
What even is a paper vase?
Merry Xmas Guys
I would vacuum seal tha remote
I always keep a spray bottle of water close by, just sayin.
Really enjoying watching your preparations- quite a while ago now for you!
