It would've been quite sweet if the Valiant-class design we see now was the post-war cruiser design rather than a slightly modified Halycon-class hull. Still a nice video and a good ship design.
@@pkyboi937 maybe mix the three together? Take the best parts from the Halycon (the Pillar of Autumn refit specifically), Marathon and Valiant and put them together?
The Halcyon was the best ship to base a new main line cruiser that replaced all three of the older cruiser designs. The structure and hull of the Halcyon creates a ship that is so damn tough that not even melting 90% of it to Slag is enough to destroy it or knock it out of a fight. The refit package of the Pillar of Autumn that was used as the basis for the weapons, reactors, and engines made the old outdated Autumn into the strongest non supercarrier ship the UNSC had. Combine the hull of the Halcyon with a refined version of the refit and new technology developed post war and you have a ship that can take on anything short of a assault carrier and above.
a cross between a cruiser and a battleship sure makes me wonder what battleships they're talking about given the only known class is a postwar one like 60 years later
Likely a battleship concept that they weren't willing to spend the resources and time to make. Any battleship they would have designed would have actually been completely useless for the insurrection which was the war they were in. A battleship would have been like the Halberd a ship only meant for space combat and no ability to support ground operations. Ironically if the UNSC and CMA had developed battleship designs they would have had a better time fighting the Covenant ships.
It made them a tough and enduring bastard of a ship but without a Pillar of Autumn level refit they were never good enough for the fight. Now the Pillar of Autumn itself was easily the strongest non supercarrier ship the war era UNSC ever made.
