Out of all the people on the net you have the best teaching method. Carry on your candour you're slow secondary speed 3rd speed is the best way. Much love blessings in Christ Jesus name.
JAKE KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, I HAVE MANY YEARS IN MARTIAL ARTS AND HAVE LEARN A LOT FROM YOU. YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND THE SUPER EXPERT AND THE SUPER CRITICS, THEY KNOW IT ALL THAT THIS IS THE REAL STUFF AND THIS IS NOT REAL DA DA DA. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS JAKE YOU ARE A GREAT GUY
I wish you shot this one from the back like video 1. Hard to tell what you're doing when you pass it and hard to tell how you're spinning it in the left hand after the pass to keep the spin going in a clockwise motion
DSMNTL if your still up for the work, do one thing. Hold the staff in your left hand facing towards ground and move it round to let it go behind your back, just like you do with your right hand and it reaches on your back........... (same thing? i know) now try to rewind this motion >>>>> means.....bring it back to where you started from but rewinding every motion you did to take it on your back.........this rewind motion is what you need when your having staff on your back in right hand and you need to pass to left to bringing to front and start all over again.
Same problem I am having. I can't tell if when behind the back and both hands are on the staff if it's pinky against pinky, or pinky against thumb. And which hand is above the other. I'm trying it multiple ways and still having difficulty completing the spin back to the front.
Thank you for these videos. I took martial arts as a teenager 45 years ago. Being a teenager I wasn't eligible for any weapons classes. The style was an Indonesian-Dutch blend of Kung Fu and other styles. Then the school went out of business and I never got back to it. Everything else in the area was "hard style" Karate. Which is fine if you want that. But I really liked the "soft style" Kung Fu. BTW, that's also about when the Kung Fu TV show was on. I was doing some juggling as it's supposed to be good for brain health as you get up in age. I'm glad I found this and will add it to my routine. I'm mostly interested in the spinning and not so much the combat or striking. Thank you again.
I’m in Fort Worth. I think this will help me with quick movements, balance, coordination, etc. wonder if there are any places here that teach older folk without laughing their butt off? Glad to hear this helps us senior citizens. My research begins.
I like your videos. Chineses Martial Art is great and you explain it so well! I'm living in a small village and there are no real good senseis around so you and your youtube companions are my only chance to learn what I need for a healthier life. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!!
Jake Mace I just bought a Bo Staff yesterday from my asian district, took it home, began my training, and this is helping me a lot. Just wanted to let you know. Thank you!
This is fantastic! I have been practicing with normal bo's and jo's (karate) for almost 7 years now and I have only just purchaced a bo staff! I do hope that these interesting, impressive videos will come in greatbuse to me! Thank you Jake!
i have been practicing this move before my work during breaks and after for some time and just got the flow. thank you and keep up your flawless technique and open teaching. it changes lives! c.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial Jake... It's intriguing how Kung Fu techniques can enhance my silat staff play a lot and since learning from this tutorial, I gained a lot of confidence in the competitions that I joined in Malaysia... Hope that you will learn silat as your techniques are exquisite and absolutely mindblowing... Thanks for the tips and greetings from Malaysia...
yeah.. yeah.. I just did it alone, I just tried , was so obsessed with the behind the back spin, I just tried to figure it out n came up with just the same idea.. heh.. haha.. n guess what, that turned out to be the right way.. I m so. so . so. happpppyyy.. thx Jake mace.. u r one of the best trainers on you tube
Dear Mr. Mace thank you so much! for making these awesome training vidoe's i wouldn't even be able to spin a stick if it wasn't for your help! i learned so much for the past few weeks, to the front spin and back spin and all the other skills! you are a boss mr mace thanks so much. p.s. may you please make more vidoes with the bo staff? :)
Jake thanx so much I finally got all my spins down and I have a wicked sore on my hand from spinning so much I wore the shin down between my thumb and pointer finger ouch!! Anyway it's no big deal some Neosporin and a bandaid. It's so dam fun now that I got all the spins down!!i practice everyday soon I will try your challenge on speed I wanna give you a run for your money!!
Kung Fu and Martial Arts Weapons build so much. You may not use traditional Chinese Kung Fu weapons is a real fight but they are important to build a Martial Artist's strength, timing, endurance, mind, and focus! So in this video it's the Chinese Rattan Staff or Bo Staff! Spin it fast and spin it often!
This is my favorite spinning technique because it takes the staff behind the back and tests your skill with it because you can't see it. Great video :)
hey jake, thanks for all of your staff videos. I have just started learning kung fu in the UK and I have a lot of enthusiasm for the bo staff. I have studied your number 3spin video for quite a while and cannot get it right. I struggle with the left handed part and as I pass it back to my right hand it is always going anti clockwise. could you please show a video from behind you as I think this may help, thanks for your time and effort. kind regards Mark t.
+Owen Thomas I suppose you mastered it by now :P But if not (and this is for every one else too) Just go to 1:18 and watch it in 0.25 speed 3 times. After that you get it
Hey man, loving the Bo staff right now, coming along nicely I can do behind the back and stage 2 spin as well! Just wondering could you do a couple of through the fingers one handed spins? That'd be so cool bro!
So far I am having the most difficulty with this spin. I can go front to back, both sides, with relative ease. But reversing that (on either side) and it goes wrong. I have gone super slow, and even have divided the motion up into small parts. It's almost like my wrist can do certain motions only one way.
try Stron Bone. its a supplement geared towards joint and bone strengthening. Studies show that bone density is increased by 30% and fracture risk reduced by 40%. The main ingredient is Strontium.
I looked it up. Looks like it has some side effects and not just anyone should take it. "New research from Europe suggests that patients on strontium ranelate may have increased risk of heart attacks and blood clots, and it is likely to be removed from the European market." So be careful when taking supplements, especially if you are on other meds.
i liked in the first video you showed us how to do it from the back. its so much easier to learn from that view. i hope you make more videos with that view im struggling to follow this video compared to the first one
do you suggest doing in both directions or with both hands for each technique, I assume so? Great instuction and your space is awesome, looks like a fun place to train
Awesome video! It's very helpful, but i would warn the audiences about their wrist! You will get serious in jury when you pinning if you don't pay attention to your wrist!
Hi, i only recently become interested in bo staff martial arts, just because of the awsome coreography. So because im that new i dont rellay know where to start with, im searching several videos and try to exercise at home, but so far i only got a broken window and some small injuries from hitting myself while trying a spin.. So what techniques do you recommend to start with?( i chose a white whod bo about 2 pounds weight)
Hi, i really enjoy your Bo staff videos! My Plan is to get a Bo staff made of ebony, weight about 1,8 kg, for some workout. Is it even possible to spin such a heavy one that fast?
i started doing this like 5 months ago but i was using a stick that is about a foot higher then me and it's pretty heavy so it's hard to spin fast i did not watch any videos on bo staffs tell now and now i really wanna get one like yours
Does the video has some special effects? There is not much spin at the back. But the fast video seems to show a lot of spins from right hand to left hand through passing at the back.
Isn't there, like, a 2 handed forward Spinning technique out there too though? I swear I've felt I'd always known that but for some odd reason I can't find that.
I am not getting involved with the other comments, but to be fair these spins are good little exercises for people like me who just want to learn a bit of coordination and self discipline, and show off to my girlfriend. I know that you wouldn't do a lot of spinning in a fight but that doesn't bother me because I don't plan to get into any fights, and if I do, I very much doubt I will have my make-shift curtain pole bo staff at hand :) But to be honest if I were in a fight situation with a bo staff, I would use the spinning as an intimidation tactic, inbetween sparring moves to show that I am calm and confident and in control of everything that is happening. Would be even cooler if I could do it from some nutty yoga position but I would probably break if I tried that. Anyway thanks for these instructional vids, I am making good use of them with my curtain pole, and have smashed a lightbulb already :) I am still getting my speed up with number 1 spin
Hello jack, I am learning staff move from long time by seeing your video and now I am able to do all your staff move but I am facing one problem, how to change from one staff move to another staff move and I am still not able to move while doing staff moves.
something i would add is to let the stick flow with gravity. Use muscle/control to keep the staff flowing with gravity or faster. To go faster or equal to the speed that gravity provides. But dont hit yourself in the head etc..
I learned how to do all these by myself just playing around as a kid, I can do most of the staff spins, quickly too, whilst mobile. I can jump while doing it run and walk.
I agree with you James...And I don't understand why some people are angry with you...I thing they are angry because they can't do the amazing things you do. HAHA :-)
I got the third step in three days well not exactly as fast as that i always stop at the front and i think i need to practice step one for 2 hours i guess since i cant do 20 rep in my fastest rotation and i will practice both hands this time so i have a solid foindation i need to master the step 1 i guess
When I try this, the first part with my right hand goes great. But when I pass the bo over to my left hand and make a spin and go back to the no. 1 spin, am I spanning against the clock. What am doing wrong? Edit: NVM, I got it! All I didn't know is that you have to make some kind of eight symbol before passing it back, it's a little easier than it looks! (A LITTLE!💪🏻)
Got comfy... got confident... got fast... knocked myself stupid... slowed down
😂
😂 yep same here
i cant tell you how many times i knocked myself in the head
+Taylor P. how is going? :)
+Wojciech Smialek broke my bo yesterday whilst spinning, but other than that very well, im improving daily.
Taylor P. Lemi guess 26
Me too
Me too bruv... The more speed added each turn, the more headstrikes I landed to my lovely head... Auch!

brilliant again. and also is an incentive to mastering the first two staff techniques

Amazing. Wish I lived there. Would love to train in your school.
Leaning forward while switching hands helps with more accuracy on the trade off and gives you a less likely chance of whacking yourself
this man is amazing i admire people like him I thank him for showing I would say nanaste to him
Its namaste bro.

Little confusion while staff in left and back in rotate position, can you share video from back side,
would you recommend a tapered staff or a straight one for a beginner?
I love your job ! you are a great teacher ! ;)
Thank you. Been wanting to learn this spin

I am very grateful to Chanel, now I can turn the stick
When you pass the staff, du you put your left hand under or over your right hand?
I learned stick spining by you.. Thank you Master....your's Nagababu
Man that is awesome. I am going to make me a staff and start practicing.
Anybody know what the official name for this spin is? So that I can look up elsewhere as can't see back view In this video
Another great tutorial thanks Jake
Man you are just fabulous..
..India
I learned how to do all these by myself just playing around as a kid, I can do most of the staff spins, quickly too, whilst mobile. I can jump while doing it run and walk.
Thank you so much teacher, you are great.
A nice boy and a nice teacher.
You're doing great job...
thanks for teaching. great stuff!
Hi, how I can get your full learning videos? do you have classes in Canada?
But like how is your staff still spinning while you pass it? or does it just look like that because you are doing it so fast?
Could please show it from behind to see how the hand transaction is done .🙏
Super sir ,I learned it clearly and I can move it like you sir faster
I am trying to make a custom bo!! Can u pls tell me its weight and measurement? My height 5'10
I almost got this down. So proud of myself, however I've got a few bruises in the process, but that's okay! Badge of honor!
What I want to know is, how often do you hit yourself with the staff before you get it down to this amount of skill?
never hit myself once, but I am using an iron bar half the size, it might be better to find something smaller for beginners to use.
alot trust me im using a bo staff and befor i was a pro i hit my self soooo much
I agree with you James...And I don't understand why some people are angry with you...I thing they are angry because they can't do the amazing things you do. HAHA :-)
I can do this but i always do the pass with my left hand it just feels more natural to me and im right handed is that wrong?
Do you get any hurt in your face tightly with the staff
Learn this 3 days, awesome tutorial
Hello sir, please help me. I am stucking with my lefthanded.
Genial!!! Gracias por enseñar!!! Saludos!!
Edit:
NVM, I got it! All I didn't know is that you have to make some kind of eight symbol before passing it back, it's a little easier than it looks! (A LITTLE!💪🏻)
can someone help me plsss
is hickory better than white oak for a 1.5m bo ?
Videos are all very nice
you go right to left, can you go left hand to right hand?
Super sir. You....teach.....easy method. Sorry I don't know English
