I mean, Nega-Scott in the comics wasn't the opposite of Scott, he was a manifestation of all of his worst traits, so it's kind of more like this version of him is a manifestation of all his best traits instead... maybe?
The official ending is better, simply because Scott doesn't deserve to end up with Knives.
Or simply because people don't end up with their first love, that's not how the world generally works.

I don't know I really like him ending up with Ramona. It helps Knives grow through healthily learning to deal with rejection, and Scott and Ramona clearly both want to help each other grow and become better. That's what him taking her hand symbolizes, that she doesn't have to improve alone.
Honestly, I think most people DO prefer the Scott/Ramona ending. That's one reason why they changed the ending in the first place; test audiences HATED the Knives ending (Hell, even Ellen Wong who PLAYED Knives preferred the final ending. Also, the movie is just using the book's ending.
And you hit on it exactly: The entire point of the story is Scott and Ramona growing and learning to become better, and that growth is largely dependent on each other. Ramona herself spends the entire book ashamed of who she had been before meeting Scott, though not able to properly confront it without Scott's help in the final battle against Gideon (not sure if you've read the book, but just in case tl;dr Gideon was actively trapping her in her own negative thoughts and preventing her from being able to move on). And it's the relationship with Ramona that helps Scott reconcile his own past (manifest in the book with NegaScott; all the bad things about himself that Scott tried to block out and run from) and eventually help Ramona break away from Gideon's influence
It's not that Scott and Ramona are two terrible people who deserve each other. It's that they're two damaged people with very real issues, but who help one another grow and learn to be better.
My favourite scene was the vegan police scene. When the guy lost his veeeeeguuuuun powers and his hair fell, I laughed so hard.

Oh my gosh. That just blew my mind. The movie portrayed Negascott as a better guy than Scott himself. That's the equivalent of Dark Link being the hero of Legend of Zelda.
The movie is epic. I know it seems style over substance, but the humor and the story are high quality too.

I think the most underrated part of the movie is the plot twist that Scott is evil boyfriend number 8. Confirmed by cheating on Knives and NegaScott being a "good guy."

I just watched this movie for the first time today. Honestly Scott and Ramona deserve each other. Knives is better off for not ending up with that whiny d bag. But I really like the comics.

They left out one of the best lines of the comic, “What kind of idiot dates a girl named KNIVES?!”
To be fair, Scott's relationship with Knives was definitely not true love.
He originally dated her because it was easy, then dumped her after hooking up with Ramona. And Knives kind of became a basket case for a while, becoming completely obsessed over Scott until around after the Twins were defeated, as well as going so far as attempting to kill someone (Ramona) over dating her obsession.
Eventually Knives moved on though, and Scott and Ramona ended up together partially because they're both pretty similar and both admit they suck at relationships, but they decide they're going to try and make it work regardless.
The comics explain this a lot better in my opinion, but the movie is still pretty good nonetheless.
This was really good and funny, except I disagree that Scott and Ramona's relationship is toxic. In the original comics Ramona is way nicer and while she and Scott are both screw-ups, they kind of help each other get better, and them ending up together feels believable and makes sense. I don't think he should end up with Knives, because she's too good for him. She's so sweet, nice and innocent that she doesn't realize she's being taken advantage of. Scott mistreats her or ignores her for most of their relationship. I thought it was a great moment of empowerment for Knives in both the comic and the movie when she finally moved on, gained confidence and became her own person without needing to depend on Scott for happiness, something he can't provide her with.

I just saw this yesterday and I loved it. To think that it was made 2010 and didn't get a lot of support is crazy. I dare say that this movie was ahead of it's time.
It's still ahead of it's time in 2020. Nothing has caught up to the sheer level of style and mixture of practical and special effects.

Maybe not true love, but relatable, most people have had bad experiences or just lack the empathy to avoid hurting others while trying to satisfy their own need for love or pleasure. I hope You find some good love.

indeed... even though the ending had no sense at all and they didn't use the obvious ending. but then again it was a great movie.

I think the whole point of the characters in the comic (and thus the movie) is that they don't have to be perfect or even good people. It's like real life; despite people's flaws, we learn to love them anyway. The comic does go into more depth on Ramona and better develops her relationship with Scott (as well as her obsession with Gideon), which helps us better understand why the two end up together.
And who says we have to fall in love with the "best person"? Knives wouldn't have been the best for Scott, anyway, as she (was) obsessed and he was sort of just doing it to get over Envy. And in the end, Knives becomes more mature for it. The story and characters feel real, despite the 8-bit mix-ins and ridiculous fights and superpowers, because they are flawed.
Also Wallace is the best character.

Exactly. Knives was too obsessed with Scott for it to have ended healthily if they would've gotten together. I've never seen the movie but I know that in the comics it was pretty clear to me why Scott got together with Ramona and imo they were kind of cute. (I also thought, even just from this trailer, that, at least Scott, was much more likeavle in the comics)

The Point of Scott and Ramona ending together is that they both are broken bad people and by being willing to stick with each other, they are maturing and becoming better people. That and Knives is over Scott by this point, at least in the comics.
And that's the problem. The comic book was six issues and spread out over about a year's time. The movie spans about a couple of weeks and never really did much to establish much chemistry between Scott and Ramona outside of the initial, "She's hot and edgy" and her apparently looking for someone who wasn't a complete monster.
Two broken bad people can actually help each other become better??

1. He never liked Knives in the first place, he was just dating her to be in a relationship. The movie made it very clear early on that the relationship was one-sided.

he didn't even like knives. they had zero chemistry and Scott knew that. its not like he was in denial of how he felt about her. he knew he didn't love her. his maturation in regards to her was finally telling her upfront instead of lying to her or dodging her.

Well, I haven't read all of the comics, but Knives discovers Scott's cheating in the first volume, while she is fighting Ramona in a library. Scott never told her, SHE found out herself. So yeah, I don't know how that works in the comics either.
It doesnt, they stick to comic ending where he chooses ramona, but she definitely grows into you. In the movie you don't see a lot of her character but in the comics she's cute and fun. It is quoted by the the first ideas of her character that: "you don't like her, but you'll like her when the comic ends"

He knew I was a gamer but if you think about it, RPO was mainly the 80's culture in a nutshell rather than all the eras of gameing like he thought me to believe. still worth it though, just feels odd to me that a futuristic setting mainly cared about the classics(for plot reasons of course). everything made sense in the end and I can't wait for the real world to have that kind of technology.
DSoulA3 oh yeah, that book was absolutely chock full of 80s throwbacks. I even had to look up some of it, lol. I think we can do that kind of setting now in a movie, but it looks like it won't be cheap though
