I still use Windows 7. I think the newer operating systems are ugly, non-intuitive and harder to navigate. Mine does all I need it to do without having to have everything bang up to date. Win 10 and 11 are both awful to use in every way, in my opinion.

Using Windows 7 is analogous to walking out of the house for a fortnights holiday, and leaving all the door and windows open, and hanging a big sign on the door saying" House empty for 2 weeks: rob me.

Win 7 was by far my favorite version from Microsoft. Then they forced my machine to update to Win 10, and I hated everything about it. In Win 7 I could control which updates I would or would not install, and the MS telemetry was minimal. With 10 and even more with 11, MS was collecting information on which app I was using and how often, etc. For me that was the last straw, so I reinstalled Windows 7, replaced Explorer with Firefox, replaced Office with LibreOffice, and disconnected my machine from all Internet traffic, so I can occasionally use some very specialized video editing apps such as object removal. Anyway, aside from my one Windows computer, my entire family now uses Linux. In particular, my favorite distro is Kubuntu KDE Plasma, which I consider even more superior to Windows 7, as it is Windows the way it should have been, plus it is free and without any spyware.

I'm still running Win7 on one my laptops, and can honestly say it's still my fave. Moreover, I actually need it for running some legacy hardware and software which don't work well on newer Windows. Just because and OS is "no longer supported" it doesn't mean that a tech savvy person can't use, to the contrary. With a good antivirus, Chrome or Brave browser, it's perfectly fine. imo Over 12 years of using it, never got a virus, malware, or ever got hacked.

Windows 7 sluggish? Woah there thats a lie, come on ,windows 7 uses about 35 to 38 processes to do anything modern you like while windows 10 is using more than 100 processes so i dont see in any world how a system that runs 62 less processes or more can be slower than 10,and windows 7 doesnt use the turbo feature that 10 has already if 7 had the turbo mode enabled not only would been crazy faster but already without the turbo it surpases 10. Windows 10 uses fast boot 7 doesnt ,if 7 had the same thing it would won,try and set windows 10 without fast startup,7 cant be slower cause by having less processes running on the system also the network load on your connection is lower disk usage cpu gpu everything when i installed 7 on my 10 pc,it was nasa level fast less than a second everything opens and loads,so no Windows 7 is the fastest modern Os,from windows operating systems.

Linux historically was considered secure only because it was obscure which is the worst type of security. However much of that is still true today, very rarely do people on Linux install anti-virus & most of it is fairly basic like ClamAV.
So long as you're not blindly downloading stuff & visiting untrusted websites, you're probably fine. Also how will someone know your even using Windows 7 to attack you? Likely your browsers user agent, simply get a user agent changer & set it to Linux, so attempted exploits would be designed for an operating system you're not even using.
Of course have an anti-virus, but for even more protection you could get an ad, tracker & malware blocking DNS service. Mullvad VPN makes the best VPN BUT, they let anyone use their DNS servers for free. Switch to their ad, tracker, & malware blocking DNS server to block known malicious domains giving you another layer of protection.
After all this is said & done, you can likely continue to use Windows 7 indefinitely without a serious worry about security provided the applications you want to use are still supported or are satisfied with the version you have.

I mean to remember it was around 150 updates in total to get it fully up to date back then. In windows 8.1 it was even worse, there were around 270 updates, nowadays it is probably around 320 updates to get it fully up to date. Have done the same with Windows Vista with SP2 but don't remember how many updates it took to get it fully up to date. Windows 7 and Windows XP will still work the operating system itself is not the problem. The problem is that you won't find updated software that supports it because most vendors have stopped support for Windows 7. So has Google Chrome and Firefox. As you showed us in the video. When you tried to install Google Chrome it installed a very old version that was the very last one to support Windows 7.And that version is probably years old. The same thing happened to me when I installed Firefox on Windows XP 3 years ago. Now it's the same thing on Windows 7 and 8. I didn't want to upgrade to Windows 10 and I tried to put it off for as long as I could. But in the end I had to get off of Windows 8 because I could no longer get any web browsers or software that supported Windows 7 and 8. So I installed Linux Mint. If you continue to use Windows 7 or any old version of Windows you won't find many (if any )web browsers or software that supports it. So you will have difficult doing basic things like viewing this site or any websites. And you need a good browser in order to get online to do anything. Even other things like video chat or Skype won't support Windows 7 and the old versions of Skype won't work. So the answer is no Windows 7 is not useable now because you cannot find many software that supports it. It's the same thing with Windows 8. I liked Windows 7 better than Windows 8 and Windows 10. Microsoft should never have changed Windows and made it like it is now. But they have and there is nothing we can do about it. Except go and find another OS and I have. I found Linux and I would never go back to Windows now.

@@Britec09 Thanks Brian. I have noticed that a lot of the people on here who have channels about Linux are Windows users like myself who have changed to Linux because of the way Windows is now with Windows 10 and 11. I think more people will be moving to Linux because Microsoft seem to be making changes to Windows all the time making it less and less user friendly. Windows 7 was one of the best versions of Windows and I don't know why they started Windows 8 and changed everything. In windows 8 Microsoft took out most of the features of Windows 7 and XP and replaced it with that Metro theme. Then it got worse with Windows 10 where you cannot even disable automatic updates. Now with Windows 11 it's even worse. You cannot even sign in to your own computer without a Microsoft account. So no wonder people are leaving Windows. I don't see staying on Windows 7 or 8 an option anymore because it's no longer supported. And if you cannot do anything on there there is no choice but to find another operating system. I still use Windows 7 and in fact just a couple of weeks ago did a full clean installation after years of no issues to see what the experience was like these days on my daily driver. It's nowhere near as much hassle as portrayed in this video. I am using rather high-end Windows 7 era specific hardware though, and I do have all my Windows 7 programs and complementary software saved offline for easy access. All my updates are done through Simplix UpdatePack 7, which works completely offline and took me just half an hour to update to the latest version from a clean installation. The whole process from installing Windows, updating it, and installing all my drivers took less than 2 hours. My system boots in just seconds, and that's with an extended POST process due to an onboard RAID controller. It's honestly never been easier and is actually a faster and more seamless experience than at the height of Windows 7's success. These tech UA-camrs don't have a clue!

Official builds of Windows 11 is bloatware, crapware and spyware infested. If you're going to use Windows 10 or Windows 11 use Ghost Spectre's version of it and opt for "install with Windows Defender" from the get-go. Every other option is for skilled/advanced users who know what they're doing and understands the risks of not having Windows Defender installed from the get-go. Ghost Spectre has a README file with every revision he puts out. And he basically states "installing Windows without Windows Defender is at your risk and you will not hold anyone liable, so unless your Mad Max, installion of Windows Defender is a must-have, end of story".

I wanna try Windows 7 because some older games won’t work anymore on Windows 10 that’s why I went out and bought another hard drive so I can have both Windows 7 and 10 downloaded at the same time.

have specialised software that only runs in winnows 7, so I keep that on an old laptop. Don't use it for much else, so not bothered by updating it, will put Debian on it eventually once I have Virtualised said software.

Of course, ABSOLUTELY AGREE, although I did like Windows 7, but who didn't? 😸 I do have a question; I have an HP with Windows 11 on it, that I haven't activated yet; I really like Internet explorer, for the ability to send a shortcut to desktop, and for the add-ons, especially the accelerators! I have an MSI installation file for the browser, and I think I have the accelerators also saved... Will they run on Windows 11? Thanks, Bri!!!!!!!!!!

I've still got a Windows 7 Pro laptop. It's now mainly used for video capture and processing, as there's no Win 10 driver for the video interface. I've removed all my personal data files and uninstalled Chrome and all it's stored passwords etc.

I have actually done this [May 2024], and licenced it too. For a non-commercial user IT IS NOT EASY TO DO. I bought a 20 user licence and copied the installation to a VM that I could simply clone to another 19 PCs. I've used 4. Note that its only available as English-US and the last version of this is 21H2 which can not be upgraded. But yes, supported till 2032 !

I despise humankind's obsession with change and constantly moving forward believing it's always for the better - it isn't. If something isn't broken, don't fix it. If there's nothing wrong with something, don't replace it. I love Windows 7, and I still used it up until the end of 2021. I wish I could still use it today.

My HP laptop is from 2009 which came with Win 7. Yes I upgraded to Win 10 and don’t really notice any big difference except that Win 10 is slower and needs more memory to run which I can’t upgrade. Maybe a SSD drive would help. My Wife’s laptop is a couple yrs old that has a SSD drive and is super fast especially when copying files/photos. 😊

This guy hasn’t a clue what he is talking about. The security update you are talking about are not security updates but rather spying updates, to give more and more restriction unless they get some money out of you, nothing is free these days, when Microsoft realised that they can make money out of you in another way than just for software purchase they had to develop a new Operation system to implement these money making schemes in to it. Remember if you don't pay for the product, you are the product. windows 7 was supported over 10 years, windows 10 only few years, how long windows 11 would be supported? and how long before the operating system would be done on subscription? Yes, the other software manufacturers follow this path and lots of new software won't run on old windows 7. Greed will get us all!
