I think a lot of people will. After a year from now, you can pay 30 bucks and get another year of support. And by the end of 2027, your PC is probably starting to say goodbye anyway.
@MrDonCoyote I highly doubt most users will pay up $30 a year for any more support; corporate maybe. My Dell laptop will be 14 years old in 2025, and I don't want to give it up while it's still working.
I made up my mind years ago what I was going to do. I have three PCs that currently run Windows 10. Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, told me that Windows 10 was going to become end-of-life - but I couldn't have Windows 11 either (not that I actually wanted it). At that point I decided what to do. One of these PCs, I use for video and music production. It spends 99% of its time offline. This will become 100% offline. The other two, which get used for more day to day tasks, will become Linux machines, simple as that. There was no way in Hell that I was going to throw away and replace three perfectly good computers just because Almighty Microsoft said so.
MS put a big stop sign in front of you and said, YOU MUST PAY UP!!! LOL ..I have 5 family Computers in my house, all running Linux Mint. Savings to replace value, over $5,000, no way!!!
I recently switched my older unsupported laptop to Ubuntu with a Win 10 VM, runs great. I totally agree with Brian though that Linux is not for everyone.

I was going to dig my heels in and stick with w10 as long as possible until earlier this year when I saw a BeeLink S12 Mini advertised at a bargain price. It came with w11 Pro preinstalled so for the price I thought I would give it a go. I don't like to think Windows 10 support is ending. I kind of have a "home" here and I don't want to have to move on to Windows 11 or Linux. My biggest worry is if I go on to Windows 11, how much of my old apps and games will still work? It seems that with every new Windows release, more and more older games and apps no longer work. I'm gonna hold on to Windows 10 as long as I can. If I had my way I'd still be using Windows 7 and XP, they'd still be supported and even the new games and apps would still work on them, if I had my own way.
I had windows 11 cos I upgraded from windows 10 everything was there but was very laggy slow and kept corrupting files when doing updates resulting in a BSOD on windows 11 I downgraded to windows 10 and is MUCH better

It's frustrating that Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025, especially considering that around 61% of users are still on this operating system compared to just 36% using Windows 11. Many of us find Windows 10 to be stable and well-optimized; it runs perfectly fine for our needs. In contrast, Windows 11 has been plagued with bugs and stability issues, which make the upgrade feel more like a burden than a benefit. Furthermore, there's a significant portion of users who own older computers that lack the required TPM 2.0 chip, making it impossible for them to upgrade to Windows 11. This situation raises concerns about inequality in access to technology. It's disheartening to feel forced into an upgrade that many of us don't want or need, especially when the current version we've been using for years is still doing its job well. I hope Microsoft reconsiders its decision and extends the support date for Windows 10. While business interests and profit margins are likely driving this decision, it's essential to remember the diverse needs of users. A little understanding and flexibility would go a long way in ensuring a smoother transition for everyone involved.
Thank you for all your input, nicely done, if not mistaken, you advise there is a difference in the methods of EOL, security extension paid methods, as if I understood you correctly mentioning that Microsoft paid security updates in their paid extension can done at kernel level, versus 0Patch updates, which is more software based, is this correct?, as planning on retaining Windows 10 on a secondary PC that is dual booted to Windows and Linux, which doesn't meet Microsoft's hardware requirements, as for my main PC plan to remain on Windows 10 till mid-year 2025, before moving to Windows 11, hoping Microsoft will improve their present practice of updates, as tried Windows 11, and returned to Windows 10 from the result of their buggy update on Windows 11, causing issues, thanks again for your effort in presenting this video!
I went over to Linux Mint about 2 years ago and really I have never had an issue with it sure I did have to learn a new operating system that's true but Mint is so like Windows I didn't really have too many issues with it. I have found all the programs I need for video editing and the like plus many other substitute programs that I used to use on Windows plus when you need to update it it doesn't take anywhere nearly as long as what it does on Windows it really is worth giving it a go.

Big mistake, I bought a new Dell XPS 8960 PC Windows 11 23H2 on February 21, 2024, and it was hell. External hard drives recognized and then unrecognized with the accompanying annoying beeping sounds. It also crashed twice. After 4 Months of this nonsense, I "UPGRADED" to Windows 10 22H2, and the PC has since worked perfectly. Next year I'll either pay for security extensions or move to Linux. Avoid Windows 11 and higher at all costs, it can only get worse.
Great video, Bri. Given what you've just outlined there, I would say that unless you are totally cash strapped and cannot afford to upgrade and have to keep the outdated hardware you currently use, then there is always the fanboy favourite of Linux. However, given that you potentially have 2 years, if you splash out the $30 for that extra year of support, then surely you have enough time to upgrade your PC. You do not have to buy everything all at once and use the sales to get what you can and pick up a few bargains on the 2nd hand market. 2 years should be more than enough time. I have three PC's here that are all Win 11 capable. I bought all the parts for them within 18 months of the announcement date of Windows 10 end of life. My old stuff is being used for video and file servers on the internal network. Do not be afraid of building your own PCs; there are loads of really good guides on UA-cam, and don't feel that you have to move to Linux because the fanboys tell you how wonderful it is. It might be a good choice for using as a secondary OS on your outdated hardware if you want to see what it's like.
Got my learning bitch Dell Latitude second hand on ebay for a quarter of the price of a new. Great machine. Swapped nvme, installed Linux, now going to explore virtualisation and install Windows there. 16 GB RAM should be sufficient. If not, I'll upgrade RAM. Where there is a will, there is a way. Had enough of MS shenanigans. I'll use Windoze only for things absolutely necessary and with minimum personal data in use on that OS. Linux is faster, more stable (at least LMDE), safer if not doing stupid things online. I don't do gaming so that makes the switch a breeze.
Think carefully. If you are going to keep windows, there is no point getting Linux. It is very easy to set up a dual boot for interest and has been shown on this channel. I have a dual disc dual boot windows 10 and Linux mint just for interest.
Microsoft will only make the ESU plans and extended service cost only a month before October 2025. People do forget windows 10 had massive compatibility issues when released in 2015. As part of insider releases I was able to test and get apps working without hitches 2 years post release.
Yup, I’ll get Win11 when my Win10 pro is kaput, I have no problem at all using Windows OS, just keep an eye on your security and update settings and you’ll be fine.
It has been said if you go to windows 11 you no longer own your computer and Microsoft has proven that to be true time and time again. People are not staying on windows 10 out of habit, but because windows 11 is crap and Microsoft steals more and more of your data and information. Windows 10 has 3 1/2 times the users as windows 11, that tells you a lot. A lot of companies are staying with windows 10 not out of habit. The so called feature updates for windows 10 have already stopped, and the security updates always break something. Or put back crap you've already have taken off, so you have to take it off again. So not getting them is not a bad thing. Microsoft Support, really, when was the last time you got comprehensive support from Microsoft? As I said Microsoft Patches break more thing than they fix. Check some of the patches in the last year. There is a learning curve with Linux but it's less than getting rid of all the bloat in windows 10 and more in 11. And fixing the crap Microsoft sends down to it's customers in features and security patches that you have to fix or re-fix. bottom line you guys need to make up your own minds.
My computer won't install Windows 11 through updates because of Secure Boot/TPM 2.0. But I read I can install Windows 11 using Rufus USB Tool as it allows removal of the requirement. Is this safe or will Microsoft be blocking this bypass at a later date?
It works, every feature Build is good for two years starting in October. So you will have to use a work around every 2 years. My self I have chosen to leave Windows for Linux Mint OS.
My laptop can run windows 11 pro but I always felt that there was something wrong, I tried to customize it to feel comfortable using some programs such as StartAllback or windhawk to make it feel like windows 10. However, I did not feel comfortable. Now Im using Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021 from MAS it feel like my new home.
They'll be some who will somehow make patch pack for you to install they did with Window 7 after the EOL date for a while. I'll continue to use it until Valve says Steam isn't supported anymore Windows 12 probably will be out then but until the market share tanks Valve will then stop supporting it
Windows 7 didn't have long-term service channel editions like Windows 10 & 11 do. There's really no point in anyone putting forth the effort this time around when Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 exists and will continue getting security updates and bug fixes until 2032.
You see the decrease in Win10 is about the same as the increase in Win11. Probably due to people replacing their PC/Laptops more-so than willingly upgrading to Win11 LOL
We can seriously debloat Windows 11 to have it without all that Microsoft crap and bloatware. You can make it as good as Windows 10 if you are patient. But I will keep Windows 10 as long as I can at least for my main computer as I need Windows sadly for certain things on my main computer. But my secondary computer like my laptop I already switched it to Linux since it runs smoother and also gets my feet on Linux. I'm currently running Zorin OS on my laptop, and I love it so far.
I'm doing much the same. My Music/Video Production PC is staying on Windows 10 offline. My daily driver PC and my laptop are moving to Linux. If Microsoft expect me to throw away and replace three perfectly good computers just because they say so, they can get stuffed.
I do have Win 11 23h2 installed on my 2nd old unsupported DDR2 PC just to see if Microsoft will continue to allow unsupported PCs to continue to run Win 11 after Win 10 end of support?
Can't load windows 11 on to my 14 year old computer. Was thinking about getting the new mac mini, but I don't like what I have seen of it. New intel chips could be a problem. either I will buy cheap PC and accept it might not last long or go for chrome os and accept reduced functionality.
Sadly, even basic tasks like editing a PDF file is a no go in Linux. I turned my old HP workstation to LMDE and works great, but no PDFs there... also, ones need to be really willing to learn a new way to do the things one knows how to do in W.
Well just I made a criticizing comment about ( a Brazilian linux distro which looks like Windows 11 ) LinuxFX , for activation key they are asking abt USD 35, think is lifetime activation .... And MS will charge USD 30 for 1 YEAR !
Most modern PCs will easily run 11, overall there is little difference between 10 and 11 so why not just update. Lets face it, most PCs that will not run 11 are probably pretty old and are not used for any serious gaming or anything so Linux will probably be more than enough.

I dont give a f.. about support.
Thank you for your video. I am going to see if i can dual boot Linux and Windows. I am going to have to learn to create a new partition for that
Most Linux Distros will ask if you want install beside Windows and do it for you. BUT BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO.
If you make a custom distro windows 11 isn't bad... I haven't played with vanilla though
👍
The only word you need to know: Linux 😂😂
My computer won't install Windows 11 through updates because of Secure Boot/TPM 2.0. But I read I can install Windows 11 using Rufus USB Tool as it allows removal of the requirement. Is this safe or will Microsoft be blocking this bypass at a later date?
It works, every feature Build is good for two years starting in October. So you will have to use a work around every 2 years. My self I have chosen to leave Windows for Linux Mint OS.
So much for MicroShaft being green....
What can people with limited incomes going to do for upgrading their computers going to do? I guess that will be then end for Me.
With good quality N100 mini PCs starting around $160 bucks, and Ryzen starting around $300, I say go mini. Get an Xbox to game.
Those things don't last long, they have no spunk.
I think Microsoft will make a huge amount of money in October of next year when most people who are using Windows 10 will pay for the ESU.
No, they won't. Those are the same people that were using IE 6 for nearly a decade without any serious updates.
I'll continue to use it until Valve says Steam isn't supported anymore
Windows 12 probably will be out then but until the market share tanks Valve will then stop supporting it
Windows 7 didn't have long-term service channel editions like Windows 10 & 11 do.
This may be a really stupid question, but could you run 11 inside a VM?
yes you can - but if you want gpu acceleration it takes a bit of work to get it passed through
We can seriously debloat Windows 11 to have it without all that Microsoft crap and bloatware.
Nobody likes me.

I respect you Windows Vista.

I do have Win 11 23h2 installed on my 2nd old unsupported DDR2 PC just to see if Microsoft will continue to allow unsupported PCs to continue to run Win 11 after Win 10 end of support?
what is the expected time for w12 release ?
2035 most likely.
Can't load windows 11 on to my 14 year old computer. Was thinking about getting the new mac mini, but I don't like what I have seen of it. New intel chips could be a problem. either I will buy cheap PC and accept it might not last long or go for chrome os and accept reduced functionality.
Or you can switch to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 and keep using Windows 10 until your computer craps out.
I am ready for unix lol
You mean Mac? That's another solution that he didn't even mention in this video
@@MrDonCoyote no accorn lol
Sadly, even basic tasks like editing a PDF file is a no go in Linux. I turned my old HP workstation to LMDE and works great, but no PDFs there... also, ones need to be really willing to learn a new way to do the things one knows how to do in W.
I'll stay on windows 10.... Microsoft.
But I may consider 11.
Well just I made a criticizing comment about ( a Brazilian linux distro which looks like Windows 11 ) LinuxFX , for activation key they are asking abt USD 35, think is lifetime activation .... And MS will charge USD 30 for 1 YEAR !
that was a short operating system
Most modern PCs will easily run 11, overall there is little difference between 10 and 11 so why not just update. Lets face it, most PCs that will not run 11 are probably pretty old and are not used for any serious gaming or anything so Linux will probably be more than enough.
My amd 5800x is a great video editing pc and it runs any pc game there isbut microsoft says its not good enough.. i will not throw aeay a great pc just du use a shity os 7:35
I have 3 old devices not compatible Windows 11 I installed it via the Source Folder Address Command Method via Command Prompt and it installed just fine and updated. The pc believe or not is a Dell 3620 and two laptops Dell Vostro 1700 and Dell 5578. Admittedly the Vostro is giving me issues installing the latest version but it 23H2. But the other two installed 24H2 iwith no issues.
when it ends i am going offline
I heard you can pay for updates for 10
$30 1 year
Just stay with windows 10 LTSC ... until 2032...
Sadly not end of life for Microsoft.
I'm still running Win 7 64 Ultimate and it works since 15 years like a charm and i still receive security update !!! without paying anything . The only couple of time i crash my system was my mistake and as i save all the data on another disk it was very easy to recover . Also there is an extended kernel feature that may possible to run App so i don't see the utility to update to a new more problématic system !!!
Well it's not really what happens is it? You're not leaving your computer open to hackers as if they're outside your window and on November whatsit midnight they'll barge in ... Also, you have antivirus software.
Um what?
Antivirus won't protect you from vulnerabilities
Get a Mac an M4 Mini... Super cheap to own, privacy respecting, super great performance and you can run Windows on it using Parallels if you want. Sorry Microsoft... No more crap O/S for me!
So those like me who can dual boot their PCs to either Windows 10 or 11 how is that counted?
windows 10 iot ltsc 21h2 is there until 2027 so im not sure that you need move anywhere
Linux 😍😍

I have an old Toshiba laptop that's on Windows 10 which can't get Windows 11, I may pay for one year extension for security updates and work out what new laptop I with get as my Toshiba laptop is very old!!!
You can switch to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 for free, which is supported until 2032, instead of paying for the extra year. It'll give you plenty of time to decide what laptop to go with.
@Jon717 Thanks for the heads up on this.
Windows 10 IOT LTSC was the solution for me.
How?
@@larsord9139 Found a download on internet that sold it.
I gave 14 dollars for the producktkey to activate it. Activated as sonn as the key was written in the activation box.
What about enterprise users ?
They have to pay more. $61 the first year, $122 the second year, and $244 on the third year per computer. Alternatively, if they have access to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, they don't need to pay for updates.
✌
Sounds like more planned obsolesce to me!
i will use chrome os after win10.
Linux is good....
So they say the Linux fanboys that is but the Linux community itself well that's another story very stuck up.
Linux is no good...
Sure it is I have used it for over 25 years..
My computer scientist told this week linux is free if your time is worthless. I used it before and got tired of chasing drivers.
😅 Windows is the only system the user chases drives for.
Must've been years ago. Finding drivers is easy, and often they're just part of the distro anyway. So unless you have some exotic hardware, you'll be fine.
TL;DW Win 10 IoT LTSC EoL is 2032
When the end of life is up, i will hopefully start using Linux (after years of pc crashes from Windows and it's bogus " data collection " updates). Am i the only one, that after years of updates have not seen any real improvement, usually just a slower pc?
I'm sorry you do not know how use your PC properly but you know what they say its operator error and a bad workman always blames his tools you will be blaming Linux for your mistakes. I can't recall the last time any of my three Windows 10 pc's crashed on me its been that long. Those Linux fanboys will be laughing themselves silly at you they are a really stuck up bunch but you will find that out for yourself. Windows 10 works just fine for me as fast as it was when I installed it and is pretty much stock with just a few registry tweaks courtesy of Bri
@@Sirlarrythecat My not so long new pc worked FINE when i got it, but the more updates, the more probs, like 100% disk and BSOD that happen often these days, also as i have said for years, Windows and it's non stop updates (and crashes) ruins your pc.

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC
So i have to throw away my super fine amd 5800x video editing pc? Windows says its not able to run shity win 11🤣🤣 i stay with 10, cant stand 11.
You can switch to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. That is supported until January 13, 2032.
@@Jon717 Many commenters on many UA-cam videos keep saying this. But, after searching, I haven't been able to find any site that actually explains how to switch to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. Could you please point me in the right direction. Thanks, Lars.
@@larsord9139 Hint, hint, massgrave.
if using davinci resolve you're fine on linux if not you're stuck with windows
Windows 10 end of life? I think not, XP is still popular and used. 10 will be around well past 11. Hell I may just buy the new commodor 64
Psssst. I'm selling punch cards in bulk. If you want the whole stash meet me downtown.

Don't like Linux period
I'll stay in windows 10
Next October,Windows 10 be end of life support,It end of life for me now,I upgraded to Windows 11
Why would you want to use windows 10 after 2025 its stupid to use it when it’s got vulnerabilities in the operating system that get people to hack to your computer I understand people can’t upgrade to windows 11 but it’s not safe at the end of the day why can’t Microsoft allow to upgrade to windows 11 it’s not that bad honestly my opinion when get used to it and it’s more safer
The risks are overrated.
And windows 11 is the saviour ? not sure windows 11 is the answer for many, and 11 has its own set of issues recall being one .many of us have decent pc,s which dont need to go in Landfill but microsoft seem to think people have deep pockets, most modern laptop pc,s are actually inferior in terms of build and have poor longevity but of course they will run 11.
Cut the crap you and your risks pls....
The first thing I do when installing Windows, is to disable Defender. I also block updates, and I've not had a single problem over the last 8 years.
That you know of.
@@Mario583a You seem very clever.
