Mike clarifies what he carries on his belt kit around his waist when he is out hunting, camping, patrolling, fishing, etc. He also shows how to configure your belt to include ALICE suspenders to help distribute the load more evenly and make it easier to carry. MIke always carries a knife, a canteen, cup and cover, a food kit, a possibles kit, fire kit, and you an easily change out the foot kit and possibles kit for the ultimate survival kit instead which has a bivy shelter, fire kit, fishing kit, food, and more. You can also add in your folding Silky saw or some other small items like medication or first aid. Having gear around your waist prevents you losing your gear should you fall out of a canoe or kayak, or if you get separated from your backpack for some reason. You will want to always have some gear on you when out in the woods. A belt kit is an easy way for any woodsman, survivalists, prepper, hunter, camper, hiker, or bushcrafter to take a small load of gear into the woods and not have to hump a big backpack.

I still have my Alice pack and all my gear. Rugged, durable and easy to manage. Excellent video.
I have almost the same kit for day hikes. Steel nalgene bottle and a Christmas tree disposal bag being my go to items. A tree disposal bag is larger and lighter than a drum liner. 144 inch x 90 inch bag made of poly available for a buck after Christmas when all the junk goes on sale. Even at the regular price of $4 they are great. Temporary shelters is only one use and for the weight they are GOLDEN.

Great video. My multilayered kit includes a battle belt. I think it's one of the most versatile pieces of kit I own. It'a modularity allows it to be set up in an endless number of ways including a patrol kit, a scout kit, a hiking kit, a over night kit, etc...And it can be set up, torn down and set up again for different uses in just a very few minutes. I've also made sure it's set up to be modular with my plate carrier and packs. Again...It's the smartest piece of kit I own. Thanks for the info.

I definitely prefer using a belt kit over carrying just a pack, or a vest. Right now I'm using a Russian setup that is pretty much a MOLLE battle belt and suspenders with a 60L rucksack that sits high so can be worn with the belt comfortably.
In summer when it's super hot and I'm just hiking, or camping or even working on the ranch I'll wear the belt with the 3L bladder on the back and 2 canteens on the belt. Then having any pouches for mags when at the range or training it's much more comfortable to let my body core have the ventilation as opposed to a vest or chest rig that covers me up.
Only downside is if you're going in and out of a vehicle but easy enough to take it on and off. Belts are nice cause you can carry all your gear you'll be using or need easy access to, then have a backpack for bulk items like sleeping bag, tent, extra clothes or food.

Cool vid, I tend to go ultralight, I have a med/first aid kit (which is specialized to me as I have multiple serious chronic illnesses), a compact psk, a compact shelter kit and a decent folder. Cool vid, I tend to carry eating utensils as well. Hope you’re well. I’ve subscribed

Love your channel. I run deuce gear at times as well. Two 2 quart carriers will hold the same volume of stuff as a buttpack. I have spray painted my gear for green and brown seasons. I think the LBE is comfortable and efficient. Old school still rocks. Cold War Sgt USAF, 1976-1982.
A ruck is a logistics loadout: beans, bullets, bedding, water, squad gear. LBE has minimal kit for to handle basic needs from 20-100 F.

Personally I hate having much more than my knife on my waist, it just gets in the way and is restrictive to me. I used to like having my most essentials on my waist, got hung up on a piece of line once on a boat and it almost cost me my life. Much prefer a good haversack or messenger type bag that can be shed easily.
It is really personally preference. Some people (like me) like the belts better for carrying gear when going out for the day in the field, and others (like my wife) prefer a small backpack. Wear what is comfortable to you that has the gear you need on it or in it. Thanks for watching!

I prefer the modular system as well. The belt has the basics and a pack is added for more, whether it's a day pack or a 3 day pack. The 3 day pack also has a hydration pouch with a canteen with cup and one of those cup stoves all in the canteen pouch. The day pack does not have the hydration pouch but there is a canteen with cup and stove. There is some kit duplication with the packs but worth the ease of being able to just grab them and go. The full size expedition pack is another story.
That is well organized and all but I would just take the day pack instead of messing with the alice clips and straps. It lets me bring a water bladder and has extra empty space to store my jacket when I get hot.

I built a really good complete belt rig with shoulder straps, but I couldn't get it to work right with any of the back packs I have.
Hey Mike: love this video, I use a pistol belt to keep my canteen and matching cup., schf52, and fire pouch....everything else in my push 511 shoulder bag. Question where would I find ac set of the alice suspender? cheap? and would they work on a pistol belt? , Vietnam vet here, still love my medium alice pack.

We have GOT to get together some day! You and I are basically using the same system. But here's my 0.5% Difference Tweaks. I used a Seam Ripper to remove the Grenade Pouches from the M16 pouches. Makes things a little more accessible, and less things to snag. I've replaced the ALICE Canteen Covers with the MOLLE ones. I find it makes the Canteen easier to get in and out of, there is extra room in the pouch to hold OUR Silverware System (LOVE that German Cutlery Set, screw Sporks!); you can put in some Coffee , Tea, Hot Chocolate, etc.; plus if you get the ones with TWO front pockets, you can fit in a small Esbit Stove in one, and put in some Water Purifier Tabs and a small Fire Kit in the other, Bob's your Uncle! Plus I carry TWO of them. Why waste Calories looking for Water? Plus I like the way it balances the load, and two cups allows me to cook in one and drink out of the other while the Tabs clean up the Creek Water in the Canteens. I then put my Food Kit, Spare Socks, etc. in the Butt Kit with all the rest of the possibles. But I use the extra length of the Butt Pack Straps to hold my Poncho and Woobie. Easier Access, plus it leaves more room in the Butt Kit. There was even a Carrier Sheet issued during 'Nam to attach them to the bottom of the Butt Kit. This enabled the end of the Frame of the ALICE Pack to ride on top of the Butt Kit while the bottom tips rode between the Butt Kit and the Canteen Covers. Plus it gave you something soft to sit on w/o removing your belt. Moving on, I put some kind of IFAK pouch on the right side ,then a Multitool pouch while on the left I put on a MOLLE Grenade Pouch to hold my Head Lamp and Spare Batteries, then I hang my Knife. And I always use the Y-Straps. Now, if God Forbid we go into a WROL Situation where I need to carry a Long Gun, then I just add Two M16 pouches (180 rounds ) to supplement the Mag in the Well and the "Oh Shit!" Mag on the Stock Pouch, which gives me 240 rounds total. My Pistol goes on a Drop Leg Pistol Holster with extra Pistol Mags attached to it, then the IFAK, and my Civvie Knife gets replaced with my M9 Bayonet for the AR. And that all goes on over a CLEAN, SMOOTH, NO GEAR ATTACHED Plate Carrier with my Armor in it. The Pack would probably be next, if I had to move my Base Camp, but I see it being left behind while out Scouting. But REALISTICALLY, the "Military Battle Portion" will (HOPEFULLY) never come off my "Minuteman Shelf" while I'm alive, except for Maintenance, of course. And this system allows me to tell the "What If Ninjas" to take a hike when my "Canoe over turns and my Pack heads off Down Stream." But "All of the Above" I consider my Secondary Level to what I have in the Pack, which is my Primary, while what I carry "On My Body" is my Tertiary, "Last Chance" Third Level. Think of Lars' of Survival Russia's "Smock Kit" in that regard. And my "On Body" is reversed for my Urban EDC gear, where it becomes Primary. Thank the Lord for Cargo Pockets, and I don't have a "Dress Code" where I have to wear a Suit and Tie! So my way is a little heavier than yours, but Water would be used up, and I don't mind carrying extra gear if it'll keep me Above Ground and Breathing In and Out! what do u use the file on ur multitool for?
With a file you can sharpen a saw blade, axe, machete, etc. You can also use a file to make other tools out of metal pieces that would be impossible to do without a file.

Say Heah Just a F. Y. I. I got a couple of Fix Knives my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife and my Fox Jungle Parang both are very similar with just some suttle diffences. But both have a attachable Survival Pouch with a large Tin with Lid that snaps shut with clamps on both sides. Not your Altoid type Tin. This one is big and you can cook in it in a pinch by just removing the waterproof rubber ring. It holds ten times as much to begin with and they supply alot of needed gear in it that I improved on myself. Anyhow both knives have these attachable Survival Pouches. Infact on the Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife I also permanently attached my Mora Kansbol which hardly added any weight to the set up. This allows me to add a cooking set-up on my Survival Belt which is just a Military Web Belt. I also add my Wicked Tough Saw or my new WoW Folding Saw both have Scabbard's that I can carry the saw in open positions. Plus my Canteen. I like using my Kodiak Gearsling because of its larger size and it has a place on the side to carry one of my Hatchets. If I need to go lite. Then I go with my 2Hawjs Double Bit Hatchet. I also have Axe Holster's for my Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe and my 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet. Which is prolly my Fav. Bush Craft Hatchet. I carry a tarp plus my other C's but all are easy excess and easy carry. So yeah, I consider this my system.,,. p
