Trailer for Ridley Scott's film starring Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, Ken Takakura, Kate Capshaw, Yusaku Matsuda, Tomisaburo Wakayama, John Spencer, Luis Guzmán
As someone who was born in 89... and LOVES all things 80's, and is a huge movie buff, love all types of films, and directors, from 1930's to present day... and is a huge ALIEN, and BLADE RUNNER fan... it wasn't until a couple years ago I discovered this movie lookin up Ridley movies I haven't seen, and gave it a shot I love Michael Douglas, so does my wife (The Game is one of my favorite films of all time).. that being said I was blown away with how much I love this film. I can quote it now, love the soundtrack, the settings, the storytelling, the acting... Such an underrated film for I never even know it existed other than seeing the title on Ridleys IMDB for years. It's basically realistic Modern day Blade Runner. Just replace Harrison Ford with Michael Douglas.. replace the futuristic Sci-Fi L.A. with JAPAN! and replace replicants with Japanese mob bosses, and gang members. I think it's almost better film in many ways. Absolutely love it. I'LL BE HOLDIN ON!!!!!!
Jan de Bont, the cinematographer of this film is to be commended. His moody lighting throughout this film is absolutely sublime and draws your emotions into the story. The opening of the film where Douglas is riding across the bridge over-looking the New York skyline is one of the best of all time. GREAT soundtrack, too. Ridley Scott is at top form, carrying on in Blade Runner-esque fashion, directing a volatile Douglas and a dashing Garcia, acting alongside iconic Japanese actors.
That shot of the sword scraping the street with the gang members on motorcycles before Andy Garcia meets his fate is one of my favorite shots in any film ever.
I hated this film the first time I saw it. A few years later I saw it on a shelf in a store and bought it despite my disliking it since there was nothing else worth watching. Now it's one of my favourite films. Action, drama, suspense, it's got it all.
@@takaforo And it’s definitely as 80s in style as a film can get. Blade Runner stylisation, smoky rooms with slabs of light cutting through the haze, blue filters, ambient sunset filters and visual atmosphere in spades.
I've watched it for the first time in yesterday, I think it's a great movie, the West and the East culture's meet each other, and in the end of the story Douglas's character changed, he became an other man. Douglas, García and Takakura made an excellent performance, and the feeling of the film a little bit remind me of Blade Runner. The music of Hans Zimmer is beautiful, he always make grea musics.
I was so blown away by the opening scene of Douglas riding the Harley XLCR “Cafe Racer” I had to have one. Ordered it from a guy out in Pugent Sound on Vashon Island. Trucked it to Arkansas. They geared them lower than the normal Harley Sportster and its low end torque and acceleration was awesome.🙂. “The bike that broke Willy G’s heart” it is said.
I haven’t seen “Black Rain” in awhile, I own the DVD but just bought it again and watched the Japanese Blu-Ray. What a great movie! After living in Japan for 7 years it really hits the nail on the head showing the differences between Japanese & American work ethics. Although we have some big differences culturally (American’s don’t take no shit and Japanese being meek), at the end of the day it shows we can be partners and above all good friends. Michael Douglas & Ken Takakura are awesome!
i saw this film in the movies when in first came out and i loved it. ridley scott is one of my favorite directors.the scene where andy garcia gets killed was so intense.this is also one of my favorite michael douglas movies
Yes, I can remeber this one, was a great movie, very nice scenes, wonder stotrie developments and sequences, dialogues, I enjoy it till Today, Fine movie....Great Oyabuns on thei Duties.....
Ooo, I used to wake up every morning and walk on Dotonbori bridge where Glico Running man is, when I lived in Osaka. Cool to think that I was on the same bridge as Micheal Douglas... Sweet!
me gusta ver que muchos aprecian esta pelicula, como pelicula de accion es muy buena, precisamente por que es mas realista y creible que otras. tambien es un buen triller.
Very much 1988-89 stuff … Vintage’80s !! So many great Hollywood films which came out during that time with great crime/action storyline & awesome synthesiser pumped BGM.Rambo , Commando, Tango & Cash, Black Rain, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Cobra, Raw Deal, Red Heat, Marked For Death, Lionheart, Above the Law, Die Hard. Irreplaceable era.
As good as this movie is, you can tell its a product of its time. The late 80s was when everyone was scared of Japans economic success, and therefore this movie has a real "bridge the gap" feel to it. Japan has really slumped since then, so If it was remade today, it would probably take place in China, the new economic power house that makes America feel uneasy.
When this movie came out in 1989.ish me and my girlfriend went to see it in Leicester Square. Most of my younger life people told me I looked like Michael Douglas. After the movie was over I was waiting outside for my girl friend a few easten girl tourists approached me thinking I was him sneaking into my own movie👀🙄🤔❓
This movie starred to great asian actors in Sato - Yusaku Matsuda, and Sugai - Tomiso Wakayama of "Shogun Assassin" fame. Put em together with Scott, Douglas And Garcia, you get "Instant Classic". AL Pacino was one of the early prospects for the "Conklin" role. Black Rain strangely reminds me of Blade Runner, also Directed by Ridley Scott
One of the most underrated films of the 80s and a terrific soundtrack...:)

Loved this as a kid.
Also Tomi Wakayama (the big old time boss) was in Shogun Assassin as Lone Wolf, and I'll always love that flick.
I want to see this movie so bad! My dad says that it's awesome.
Your dad is absolutely right. ... it's actually a masterpiece!
RIP Ken.
"Baby it's alright."
1980s the golden age of gritty crime thrillers, on film and even on TV

Yusaku Son & Ken Son ''RIP''...Two of the men that helped make this one of the BEST movies of ALLTIME!!!
I always wondered who is the man's voice at the trailers.Does anybody know?He has very characteristic voice and he participated in all 80's movies!
Worth watching for 'that' Douglas haircut alone.
Such a classic!

This is so Cyberpunk!
Always thought this was the most perfect Shadow Run flick. Sans magic and the tech.
looks like Blade runner
@@shonenblade5877 same director

for me, his best role was Bill Foster in Falling Down, but his role in Black Rain is also good
Godspeed Takakura!
excelente film de accion....!!
I feel like I am proud of being a man because of Michael Douglas and Ken Takakura.
This movie kicks ass, it is the best action movie I've ever seen.
A great movie.
Absolutly one of Ridley's best movies. Plot is a bit ropey, but it was the 80's ffs. Back then this stuff wasn't cliche, it was cutting edge!
i would love to see this
MD.
A GREAT ACTOR...PURE CLASS
From the director of Alien, Blade Runner, Legend and Gladiator!!
My ever favourite action movie!!!!!
MD ONE OF THE BEST.GREAT MOVIE ...

When i first saw the film, that scene when Sato comes out of the car at the Yakuza sitdown at the end, I was like "now that is a badman"
im see this movie 3-4 week ago....movie is great
the cast...
Never realized Yusaku Matsuda died from cancer just 2 weeks after this was released in 1989.
Most of Michael Douglas 90s movies were Thrillers jeje and I personally love Thrillers. Giving this a try and sure it's a masterpiece.
40 years and the asahi posters are still there, asahi forever

Another one of those trailers that shows you the entire plot...
Brrrack rain..., You made the rain brrrack! Tomisaburo Wakayama in Da house y'all
The best is not the plot, cause we know from beginning to end. Is the style and the atmosphere, caught by a Ridley Scott plenty of abilities
That was the first movie to have the Paramount logo with A Paramount Communications Company message.
