Team Evermore too! I think Folklore might be the better album as a whole, but Evermore has the better songs if considered individually. Love both anyway. 🙌🏼
In “happiness” she also says, “now my eyes leak acid rain on the pillow where you used to lay your head” is showing that she is actually meaning the end of the narrator’s relationship and not her life. Bitterness eats away everything good in your life just like acid rain. But there will be happiness after him, too, she just hasn’t met the new her yet. Also, being above the trees allows her to see the entire picture (like the forrest for the trees idiom) but then she says “but now I’m right down in it” meaning she can only see the trees and not the bigger picture. Great reaction! I just love how uniting music can be!
Folklore is more like lake house on summer break, isolated from the busy town. Evermore is winter in the suburbs, snow in the ground, you can see Christmas light decorations and lights on inside houses and holiday parties going on. Less isolated in the woods but more in a solemn town.
y’all are the absolute best! I love this album and as a whole I enjoy it a tiny bit more than folklore. This has my second favorite song of hers, cowboy like me (my favorite being peace). You guys are so respectful and appreciative of her and its a breath of fresh air when most men aren’t.
Evermore is absolutely the more complete, more mature, more varied, more gorgeous album. Folklore is lovely, but it is still getting there for me. Evermore is Folklore fully realised. It's basically a perfect album. The only songs I ever skip if I'm impatient are Good Rush and Coney Island. But if I have time, I'm never mad to listen to them. You still shortchanged the bridges in this reaction a bit. Especially for Tolerate It. Probably my favourite bridge of all the Taylor Swift songs... Ever... It's just so incredibly gut-wrenching.
I’m getting back into Taylor Swift recently and I’m really in love with her bridges. If you’d like to share, can you let me know your favorite bridges of her songs?😊
@@sam_sa09 it’s been a few months and I now realize I was asking the impossible. My favorites change depending on which album I’m obsessing over. Right now, it’s “Is It Over Now?” I didn’t need this in my life 😭😭😭
I really enjoyed watching your "folklore" reaction video, so I'm really happy that you decided to do "evermore" too. My favorite song from the album is probably, "gold rush." Honestly, most of the time I listen to the album the whole way through, because I love each song so much. This album has such comfort vibes for me, and reminds me of one of the happiest Christmas seasons I've had, so for that reason I'm on team "evermore."
Thanks so much for listening to both albums with us! As I said during the episode gold rush really grew on me over time, and reading the name just now already has the hook stuck in my head! And I love having albums tied to a memory like that because I can always turn it out and transport back in time. 😊
so surprised to see you guys don’t have more subscribers!! i’ve been crocheting to this video and the folklore reaction for the last 2 hours 😅 absolutely love your commentary!! i’d love to see you guys go through taylor’s whole discography, every single song is so intentional!
Evermore had to grow on me. Prior to Folklore, Reputation was my favorite TS album. Then I heard Folklore and fell in love. I was doing mass amounts of therapy thanks to COVID and Folklore was my comfort album.
Same, Rep is still at the top of my list, but Folklore & Evermore are at the tippy top. Evermore definitely had to grow, but it might edge out Folklore for me.
I love Folkore but Evermore is my album! Marjorie cuts me deep because my grandma passed 11 days before the album was released and I remember hearing it for the first time driving home in the snow and crying so hard I had to pull over. I am easily in the top 20 biggest Bon Iver fans (I have 2 BI themed tattoos; Skinny Love and Flume), so Folklore hit me like a ton of bricks but Evermore is the one I find myself going back to over and over. I really appreciate you guys giving it the time of day, because it often gets lost in her discography. I'd love to hear and see more of your thoughts on each song and what meaning you get from them. I enjoy getting new perspectives from those who just truly appreciate every aspect of the music.
this reaction was amazing i came here after i watched the folklore video and i absolutely love you guys! cowboy like me is my favorite song from evermore the melody and lyrics are amazing!!! she performed this song live for the first time with marcus mumford (does the background vocals on the studio version) in vegas for her tour! Speaking about tour I can’t wait for her to release the international dates, I’ve been saving money for 6 months and counting to be able to see her live🥺 thank you for this video and sorry about my english, i’m from brazil!
Evermore is a very good album and I am amazed at how Taylor managed to release two albums in the same year with extremely competent concepts, lyrics and production!
Thanks so much for recording as you listened and sharing it with us all. I love it. Also, I don't know if you will see this, but since you guys also love the national, will you perhaps record your reaction to their new album The First Two Pages of Frankenstein. Or perhaps even just a few songs like The Alcott off of it which is a song featuring Taylor Swift?
Thanks so much! We have tried to improve with covering the meaning and background behind songs so I’m glad you noticed here. PS… Speak Now (TV) reaction just dropped! 🙃
Team folklore tbh but I really do like a lot of songs on evermore like willow champagne problems, evermore, tolerate it, gold rush, cowboy like me!! I just wish it had a song like august (ivy is the closest) or a song like my tears ricochet
Please do Melodrama by Lorde! It’s one of my favourite albums ever (jack and lorde produced the album together and it’s incredible)-Also so glad you love evermore
Happiness and Right Where You Left Me are probably my favourite. So Happiness is strongly based on themes from The Great Gatsby. That book has a strong theme of the main character looking back and over the entire story as if from above. A bird's eye view, if you will. She is looking back over the relationship with slight distance and feeling all the pain, but also appreciating all the joy. It's obviously far more realistic than how Gatsby goes. But ja, the winning smile, the dress at midnight, Daisy hopes her daughter will be a beautiful fool when she grows up in the book, it references the green light from the great divide (across the bay in the novel). It's her most mature relationship to date, in my opinion and I love it so much 🥰
Evermore is my babygirl, it will always be my favorite. I know these songs by heart, and I feel a connection to every one. Part of this is that I don’t really connect with the whole James, Betty, and August story. It doesn’t speak to me as much. Thanks to this I discovered I know every single lyric on this album 😅 Wish I could sing, but it’s past midnight and I don’t want to wake anyone up.
Y'all know that Taylor wrote a song about the lead singer of Owl City, right? And he wrote one back to her in response? Maybe you could react to both songs, either now or when Taylor drops the Speak Now (Taylor's Version) re-recording?
Would love to see Midnights but since it references many earlier albums I think you should start at her earlier albums and work your way back up to Midnights 😊❤
I don’t generally skip unless it’s utter trash, but I will say doing these reactions makes me listen closer so I end up noticing new things I hadn’t before which makes me appreciate them more. Which song on this album did that for you? -Ryan
46:53 this guy does so much theatrics and it could be distracting to both the person he’s trying to show the music to and the audience trying to hear the music too
Happiness isn't about her and Joe but about her best friend Abigail and her ex husband who divorce with her after seven years. Dorothea is about Selena Gomez and in no body no crime Este and the others HAIM sisters are her friends, she told in an interview that Evermore was also inspired by her friendship.
Thanks for the info! I did find it interesting she said Este during NBNC. And regarding happiness I was just commenting that she could interpret it this way now that she and Joe are apparently over. I had no clue Dorethea was about Selena tho (love her!). Thanks for sharing and listening with us! -Ryan
We enjoy giving each other commentary during the songs. That’s one of the reasons the lyrics are on screen. Sorry if it took away from your experience!
My dude! Joe co-wrote some of the songs on this album & it was during the pandemic. They were 1000% together. She talked about how fun it was writing sad, heartbreaking love songs with him. Happiness was the last song she wrote & it was because her best friend was getting divorced. Please don’t speculate on her personal life. She has asked time & time again that we don’t do that
Thanks for the comment! Sorry I wasn’t clear when talking Happiness. I know the song wasn’t written about Joe considering they were together in 2020 when she wrote this. I was saying that now she could interpret it this way now that the relationship is apparently over. Appreciate you listening with us! -Ryan
