I love key lime cake! I bet the OJ adds a really nice flavor to the recipe. I knew exactly what you meant when you said " a big poof of sugar dust", lol! Been there, done that. Your cake looks delicious. Thanks for sharing!
I have been making this same cake for years but the recipe I use is from (Trisha Yearwood’s recipe, Food Network) calls for lime juice mixed with confectionery sugar glaze (juice of 4 limes & 1/2 cup CS) be applied to the hot cake layers right out of the oven. You use a meat fork to pierce the hot cake still in the pans, them paint all the glaze on the layers with a pastry brush, cooling completely then frost. The glaze applied to the layers makes this cake “unbelievably moist”, giving great texture with a sweet/lime citrus flavor takes it over the top.
Her cake recipe is still good, but applying the glaze after it comes out of the oven makes the cake really moist and gives it a great texture. I have only made this cake as a 2 layered cake, glazed and frosted, not baked in a tube pan like a pound cake. I do believe that when this recipe was passed along that someone left out or deleted the glaze.application step. This recipe has been around since the 1950’s. Jello printed lots of recipes to use their products in ads placed in magazines. Great cake to take to cookouts, church pot luck suppers, family gathering and holidays. I was glad when I saw it being made on TV food channel because it is a delicious cake to make and enjoy.

That was a simple syrup. It’s super common, used a lot in bakeries. Let’s focus on this woman’s recipe, though, because she worked hard on it and this video that we’re watching on her channel and not Trisha Yearwood’s
thanks for sharing ! your recipes , i love lemon pies or cakes or pineapple lol . cream lime frosty is a plus , i will give it a try > thanks a bunch ,SizzleSal's
Well the cake doesn’t have any butter in it. I think the butter and the oil will make for a better texture. It is really moist though! Thanks for watching!
Great job, I definitely want to give it a try. One of my church family members asked me yesterday if I had tried it, and of course the answer was nope🤣🤣. It really looks yummy, I want to try to make it.
Lol! I got you sis. I've made it again with the butter, and I actually enjoved it more the way I made it in the video. If any, you can melt 2 tablespoons of butter and add it to the wet ingredients.
Lime lover here🙋♀️ I live in Florida and love me some key lime pie or key lime cheesecake.((sigh)). I’m adding this to my must make list. You got my mouth watering 🤤 Tfs🤗😊
Oil makes a cake a lot more moist than butter. Orange juice has sufficient acid and also contributes to the citrus flavor, making it a better option than buttermilk. If you want to taste some "butter" then use some butter flavoring.
Heyyyyyy sis ! Ohhhhhh Snap I absolutely love Key lime cake and I have some crème bouquet I love it I always put it in my cupcakes and cakes that I sell. This is another cake that I plan on doing 🥰You are Awesome
No cake needs 1 and 1/2 cups of oil …in every cake I’ve made with that much oil I’ve always halved the amount and it still comes out amazing …just saying
It looks delicious, I love the color. lemon and lime cakes are my favorites

Are u talking about her key lime pound cake recipe?

Lime juice doesn't really add a lime favor to the icing to me. Use true lime for that pop of flavor.
