Hi can you do some cage tours of all your rodents please so that I can get an idea of the type of housing they need :) and some other just because I love cage tours haha
paper bedding isn't a good type of bedding. reason why is paper expands when wet and if they eat the bedding it will possibly expand in there digestive track. the best type of bedding would be non pill fleece.
I've got two girls myself, and spend a lot of time researching how to care for them, when I got them. So I was very pleased to see your video - you definitely know a lot, and I didn't hear anything I thought was wrong. You've got some lovely girls! I've got a Brown Velvet, with freckled ears, and a Tan - I love the brown mutations!
I really wish these videos were available decades ago. I had a chinchilla for several years. He was an adorable little rascal, but he would have been soooo much happier and healthier if I'd had access to this information.
As of right now I have 1 chinchilla, but I defiantly want to get at least 2 more....They are defiantly soft and fun little creatures, but a lot of work is required for them....Julie and Ivory are beautiful, I love Mosaic/Wilson White chins.....Great video!!
hey I love your videos. I was wondering if you could do a cage tour for your chinchillas and ferrets? I was thinking about getting one or the other but not sure how to set up the cages. thank you so much for the informational videos. I found them very helpful.
I wish you could do pet ladybug care. It may seem weird but you can get a pet ladybug I myself happen to have 3 and I want Dotty, Dani and Freddy to be happy. I know lots of stuff but I want to know some other stuff
I love your videos, all of your animals are so beautiful! Thank you for making videos! If it's not too much trouble, could we see more of your rats in the future? Thank you again!
There was an ad on fb about a chinchilla in a group im in. I am really worried about it because I don't know if young children should be around chinchillas because of how fragile they are. This ad was talking about how it wanted a kid around the age of 9 to play with it. I would want to get the chinchilla so I would know it would be in a good home but my parents don't want me to get more animals. I'm just hoping it gets into a home that knows about chinchillas.
My Chinchilla that i just got a few days ago won't eat her food pellets. i got her and her cage and everything for free from someone who didnt have time to give her the attention she needs. it seems as tho she ate the regular food before and i heard that there must be hay in their cage at all times. she only goes for the hay and refuses to eat the pellets but other than that shes fine... does anyone have any tips on what i should do
DakotasBabyGirl Did the chinchilla eat the same pellets you have before? If so, you should get the pellets that your chin eat before and make it is the majority of the pellets in the bowl with a little of the new pellets. Then gradually increase the new pellets until you're only feeding your chin those pellets. Hope this helps, sorry for the late reply.
Thank you for this info I've heard a lot of people telling me that you don't need to take your chinchilla out of its cage I don't have a chinchila due to their expenses and space and I feel ashamed that pet shops don't always have proper food for them which is another struggle that some people are experiencing. Since I always wanted a chinchilla I have the need to learn a lot about them, but I am not responsible enough so I am propably staying with the pets I have ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ by the way I am a really big fan of you're channell really good quality videos, confirmed information and cuteness, I admire the way you treat your pets in my opinion you are an amazing owner and your will to help others is also precious
hello happy tails, all of ur vids gave me most info for pets care. but i have one request, can u make a vid how to introduce your pets to another pets. for example birds with dogs. or chinchillas with dogs . i plan to get a dog and chin, sugar gliders, but i want them to be together. so i can play with them equally. what i fear is. my dog (puppy) too agressive. or the chinchilla is too agressive. or the SG too agressive thx
So, I want a chinchilla and I'm currently doing my research... I have a couple questions.1. I have a dog who barks very often and it can be heard any where in the house when he does, is that not good for the chinchilla?2. Is it safe to have only one chinchilla? It would have interaction from me regularly.3. My bedroom is usually quite warm, it runs the hottest in the house. The other room I could put my chinchilla in would be either very cold or very warm depending on the weather. Which room should I put it in or are none of them safe?Thank you and please answer my questions if you have the time.
The dog barking may stress the chinchilla out. But closing your bedroom door maybe help. It's save to have one chinchilla if you are going to spend a lot of time with it if not you should get 2 chinchillas because they may get lonely. But also if you do get two chinchillas make sure they have been together most of their lives because some chinchillas don't get along. It's always better to keep the chinchilla in the colder room because they are used to it ( should be used to it) to hot can kill. I hope I helped I many not be an expert but I've had 2 chinchillas of my own. Very lovable pets.
it doesn't matter if you are gonna interact with it all the time even if that's 24 hours a day, get two chinchillas. they need a friend that can understand them, they don't like being handled by humans to much.
My dog is always kept downstairs and my chinchilla is on my room with air conditioning keeping him safe and healthy . my dog barks quite a bit but that should be alriht
Hi, I have a question about chinchillas. Where do they go to the bathroom? Can they be litter trained like rabbits? I've been watching a lot of chinchilla videos lately but none of them talk about their bathroom. Thanks!
they can't control their pooping but some chinchillas will take to urine litter training, not all. so people will put safe bedding, like aspen or kiln dried pine, in something like a glass pyrex dish in the cage where they seem to pee the most. they have like dark yellow orange pee so you will notice if they use it. my one chin used to pee in his dish but he prefers digging in it and getting it all over one corner now, lol. my other one took to a litter tray right away and still uses it. chins do what they want at any given time though!
I love your videos!!!! Thank you for this information, I have 2 chinchillas and I didn't know about the food/diet. We feed them the sunrise chinchilla food mix. (At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is)
+Happy Tails we feed our chinchillas Sunburst gourmet food mix. It has pellets, but includes the things that you recommend as giving them as treats(such as carrots, raisins, ect) so should we just give them the alfalfa and the pellets?
I have a question, the cage I have has a wired bottom. the wires are not far apart and my chinchilla has a solid place to rest when he needs it, but my question is, what can I use to make the bottom in the cage solid? I don't have much access to cardboard and a fleece or towel I simply can not wash all the time as I have to pay to wash clothes. of I can have any suggestions that would be fantastic.
You can't potty train their poop, but you can their pee. Just get a flat glass or ceramic dish, fill it with aspen wood bedding, and place a rock (make sure it's been cleaned throughly) in the dish and they will be drawn to pee on it! If you notice one particular place where they pee a lot, it's best to place the dish there
I think the initial set up would be a few hundred dollars. Chinchillas usually start at about $150 and the cages state at $150. But you can also look on craigslist of used cages and check shelters and rehoming sites to find a chinchilla for cheaper.
I have Guinea pigs, and they don't seem very different when it comes to care. I already have hay, and alfalfa pellets that I bought by mistake. Would aspen be okay for chinchillas, or must you use paper bedding? I switched my Guinea pigs to aspen bedding because carefresh was getting too pricy after awhile.
I have one chinchilla, a boy. I play with him and let him run around an hour+ every day, and check in to say hi multiple times a day. Will he be okay alone, or should I look into getting another one?
my name is RubyRose hello i was wondering uif you could answer a few questions, are chinchillas okay with being handled what is the age for being also trained thankyou
Bellathekerryblue Bella I've just turned 12 (in November) and my dad got me a chinchilla in may and I absolutely love him he cuddles me sits with me and is adorable as long as you correctly handle them and have a good cage and take care of them well I think you would love having one as a pet
My cage is homemade, it is a tank at the bottom and a wire cage at the top. There is a wooden ladder leading to the wire cage at the top. The tank is empty, but the wire cage has their food, water, hammocks, etc. Is it ok to have my cage like that?

hello!♡ (i hope you will answer this lol, or someone will) I'm 14 and i'm willing to save up money to buy a chinchila/chinchilas, and now i'm trying to look up their diet and how I should raise them. Can you please make a video about their diet and what it should contain? I also go to school every day, and i get back like at 3-4pm. When do they need to eat, and how many times per day? I'm trying to know as much as possible, because maybe i don't have a chance to raise a chinchilla/chinchillas because of school and studies (sometimes i get at home at like 6pm), Can you also make a video about the DO's and DON'Ts when raising a chinchilla? (correct me if i' wrong please haha), chinchillas eat hay and that special little things you showed, right? Things like nuts & raisins, berries, should be given twice week at very small doses? They also need dust baths every day, and they need water changing every day, and they need at least 30 minutes of just going around your room (but u can't leave them all night because of dust and that can cause complications?) They need their cage cleaned once a week, and it's recommended to clean EVERYTHING that their cage contain at least once a month. Am I missing out something? I want to know everything when it comes to their care. I'm a little worried I won't be able to contain their diet stable, because I don't know anything about their diet >.< i'm from europe so sorry for my english haha :)
Nikki B. She said an alfalfa based pellet. If you live in the USA, the best pellets for chinchillas are the Oxbow Essentials Chinchilla Food (NOT Oxbow Garden Select) or Mazuri Chinchilla Diet.
Hi there, I am about to get a chinchilla and I have ordered a cage that has a plastic base and I am worried it might chew on it. Do you think it would be okay if I place many toys inside ?
My friend had two guinapigs, however one has died, she also has two rabbets. I have heard that keeping guinapigs and rabbets together can be dangerous, is this true?
I live in Canada close to the border, is there such thing as too cold because in the summer it gets to about 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and 29 degrees Celsius, is it to cold
would a chinchilla make a good pet for an experienced kid I'm just a kid and I have 10 pets already I've always wanted a chinchilla and I have done a ton of research do you think it would be a good idea to get chinchillas
Question well two our chinchilla wont use a wheel. we have tried the standard shape and the "silent" almost chair like shape. We actually had to take them away because he was chewing on them. Any tips on how to get him to use one? He has plenty of space (4 levels) but i think he would enjoy running. Also we have one and wish to get a second but we're worried about him being aggressive. We'll have the second in a separate enclosure till we can determine if they'll get along but any tips would be helpful.
Nice video, thought I would like to correct some of your info. The paper bedding is not safe. Chins are known to eat the paper bedding and the paper will expand in their stomach causing blockage. I always recommend fleece liners, aspen, or KD pine bedding. The KD pine is used by breeders (including me) who have hundreds of chins.
A lot of professionals use paper bedding, it can be completely safe if the right care is provided. If the chin is sitting there eating it, the bedding isn't the issue. They need to be provided with enough things to interact with so that they don't eat the bedding. Chins can just as easily eat fleece. I haven't heard of KD pine, but pine in general is usually terrible for any small animal. I try to stay away from any methods used by breeders who have hundreds of chins, they usually have chins in tiny one level cages stacked wall to wall and frankly I find it appalling.
+Happy Tails Breeders are the reason why we know what is safe for chins. They are literally why we have pet chins. Chinchillas are different from other rodents and are a pretty recent addition to the pet industry, that is why there is so much misinformation. Especially about the paper bedding since it is used for other rodents. As for the small cages, there is a reason for everything. Chins are den dwelling animals, they feel safer in small cages and time after time of experiences, it has been proven that this is the safest method to breed chins. Even vets don't know much about chinchillas. Their curriculum clumps chins with guinea pigs and rabbits, and as you know they are very different both with their digestive, social, and biological systems.
Not all breeders are good breeders. I got my first chinchilla from a breeder, but she kept her chinchillas in very good conditions. Breeders who use methods of fur factories are not good breeders. Yes they come up with all kinds of ways to excuse the way they treat animals, but it doesn't make what they do right. It only serves their own interest. My channel does not support that.
+Happy Tails, and that is fine. But you have to realize that chins only came to the US because of there fur.....then they were turned into pets. That is a whole other argument though. Those aren't excuses if they can prove it with data of mortality rates and longetivity of the life of their animals. I just don't want to see misinformation being spread. Also, if your breeder is not registered with ECBC or MCBA, they were most likely a backyard breeder. Breeders should have ethics about breeding quality and HEALTHY animals with a clean genetic background.
+Kathy's Chinchillas There is a difference between quantity and quality. A dog made to live in a crate is in less danger than a dog that is living a good life on a ranch. Keeping an animal in a small cage to prevent possible injury is not doing a service to the animal.
So my boy is turning five in a few weeks, and i've been thinking lately that another male would be more fun for him. I'm not quite sure, since he is turning 5. Also, he's very skittish, but not aggressive. Any tips? Also, his feet are red and raw, and he has fabric layers on his ledges, but it doesn't seem to help
Some chinchillas don't really like companions. I often rescue runts/abused boys who really struggle to socialize with other chins. I also had a little diva girl. I make sure to socialise with them very often to make up for the lack of companions
Getting a second chin is all fine and dandy. But you need to be prepared if your chins suddenly don't get along. I had my two together and they were perfectly fine for months. Till one day my second one just didn't feel like sharing anymore( PS I had a two level ferret nation, there was lots of space) he started chasing my other chin around and eventually took a bite out of this ear. So I had to separate them. They live fine seperatly now. But it does happen.
Hi!! So I'm seriously considering getting a chinchilla. With that being said , I do own two dogs (a chihuahua and a blue heeler) who bark very often and very loud. Would this freak the chinchilla out? Also I was wondering if you could show some examples of cages that would be good for chinchillas (including how to put the levels in). Also would it be ok if I only got one chinchilla? I could possibly get two, but is it safe to only get one?
Happy Tails, among kid friendly animals is this a good animal for a family with multiple children? We are looking for a pet that is furry, friendly and can be handled by my three children and myself easily.
I usually don't recommend chinchillas as kid pets because they are very delicate. Of course all small animals are delicate, but chinchillas will get health problems from stress (I had one actually faint). They are also expensive pets. With a lot of adult supervision I think it would be ok, but usually I recommend rabbits for kids. But if it is a pet for you, chinchillas are great pets for adults. hope that helps
I am thinking about getting 2 chinchillas and I was looking for everything they need and I couldn't seem to find the correct pellets for them. Is there a specific type of alfalfa pressed pellets I should get or can they be any kind?
Indeed hay is essential for chinchillas because although chinchillas rely on pellets to give them the nutritional benefit that they need, hay gives them the fibre that they lack in their diets. I usually recommend Burgess Supa Excel Chinchilla Food which only costs £4.39. Hope this comment helped (:
Is it possible for you to do a taming video for Chinchillas?
Hi can you do some cage tours of all your rodents please so that I can get an idea of the type of housing they need :) and some other just because I love cage tours haha
I have asked for that to
Animals Forever hi
YES
paper bedding isn't a good type of bedding. reason why is paper expands when wet and if they eat the bedding it will possibly expand in there digestive track. the best type of bedding would be non pill fleece.
If provided with the right environment, they will not eat the bedding.
Chinchillas shouldn't have paper bedding!! Agreed!
They won't eat it if they have other things to occupy themselves with
Omg!! Your chinchillas are soooooo cute!!!😍😍 I am wanting one in the future. You are my favorite UA-camr btw😊

From my experience, chinchillas are not good for young kids because they have delicate rib cages and are very antsy.
More mature kids, like 12-15 are best for these little guys.

Hannah Not a Banana I'm 11 and I'm getting one I'm very careful with animals so some 11 year old are ok with them :)
This video was really helpful for me. Thank you :)
hello!♡ (i hope you will answer this lol, or someone will) I'm 14 and i'm willing to save up money to buy a chinchila/chinchilas, and now i'm trying to look up their diet and how I should raise them.
I'm a little worried I won't be able to contain their diet stable, because I don't know anything about their diet >.<
i'm from europe so sorry for my english haha :)
You say "pellets" but don't mention what those pellets should have in them?
Do you think it would be okay if I place many toys inside ?
if i play with them and give it lots of attention can i just get one?
My friend had two guinapigs, however one has died, she also has two rabbets. I have heard that keeping guinapigs and rabbets together can be dangerous, is this true?
love them!
I live in Canada close to the border, is there such thing as too cold because in the summer it gets to about 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and 29 degrees Celsius, is it to cold
hi happy tails I love chinchillas
would a chinchilla make a good pet for an experienced kid I'm just a kid and I have 10 pets already I've always wanted a chinchilla and I have done a ton of research do you think it would be a good idea to get chinchillas
Any tips? Also, his feet are red and raw, and he has fabric layers on his ledges, but it doesn't seem to help
can you do a cage tour for your chinchillas

Can u do a pigeon care
who's chinchilla is on the cover picture?
One question is how much attention do they require
After watching this I think I'll be waiting until I've graduated
I have a chinchilla that lives alone for almost 3 years now. Does he absolutely need a partner?
gabi If he's been fine and jumping around and you give him attention every day, then he doesn't need one.
I love chinchillas I want one please make more videos about them
Hi, Megan. Is hay an essential for chinchillas? And what brands of pellets do you recommd?
Indeed hay is essential for chinchillas because although chinchillas rely on pellets to give them the nutritional benefit that they need, hay gives them the fibre that they lack in their diets. I usually recommend Burgess Supa Excel Chinchilla Food which only costs £4.39. Hope this comment helped (:
I love chinchilla please let me know how you got it
