One thing about fur- they do shed when they're startled. If you have a skittish chinchilla you might not have to be as worried when it comes to shedding, though if this is happening move it somewhere where it would be less stressed if you can
My chin was the same way. Now he just gets little tuffs of loose fur when he gets really excited. If your not sure be safe and go to a vet. My little guy was and is very skittish because he was a rescue.
my chinchilla is VERY SHY he gets scared over nothing and sometimes my house can be very loud and my chinchilla is scared easily so he will lose fur, not a lot but just a little so when I saw that losing fur is bad I got really worried I'm glad to know I have nothing to worry abt.
Hey ChinchillaNotebook thx for this great vid and I rescued that Chinchilla from someone who kept her in a guinea pig cage and wasn’t properly fed and she wasn’t socialized and have used Your channel for all my info Ps I’m 12
I freaking love your Channel got me so much info I just got my chinchilla December 25, 2018. I love him so much his name is gizmo I would not know how to take care of them if you didnt have a channel
@@TheChinchillaNotebook That is a lot of work! I see you are a pretty responsible person. I am only clearing it once a week. Do you think I should clean it more often?
Radu Balan Deep cleaning the bedding is okay once a week, but you should be sweeping the poop and excess hay everyday at least once a day to keep your chinchilla clean and healthy 💕
I’ve had my chinchilla for almost 3 years now. I use just a little bit of aspen bedding as a litter for him to go to the bathroom. I see you have cute blankets in your cage. What are they made of and where can I get some? Thanks!!
My chinchilla keeps rubbing her face, loosing fur around her nose. I've been trying to figure out why she's doing this, but I have no clue. She might just be bored, but I have no idea.
I dunno,my chinchilla sits still in 1 place for a long time but she is just sleeping. Especially now, during winter + her day starts at 19:00 is where she begins to wake up.
I took my chinchilla to a vet to see about what’s going on with his eye, she said it was pink eye and gave me medicine for him. It’s been about two weeks and nothing has changed. If anything it’s getting worse. Any advice?
These videos are great! I have been watching them for a while to get as much information as I can and they are really helpful. Quick Question: How do you/should you introduce your chinchilla to a guest/friend or another pet? Thanks!
There's no need to read introduce them to people. As long as they can smell them and see them approaching they should be fine. Most chinchillas don't have a problem with other people. As far as pets, in my opinion other animals should never be in contact with chinchillas but that's my opinion because I know lots of other people do it, I'm just not comfortable with it😉
Ok so my sapphire chilli, yesterday when he was drinking water a drop got by his and he got it out, but does it mean fur fungus? Please tell me in so scared.
if a drop got on his fur he is probably fine unless he got like a whole thing of water on him u might want to get him checked other than that hes probably fine
One more question, out of this topic but still i hope youll see it and answer it. Can it be possible that my chinchilla has shifted her bio clock? She sleeps so much at night, starting from 20:00 till 4 in the morning when i go to sleep and then when i wake up shes always happy and playfull. Is it possible or its smth bad, since they should be nocturnal animals more or less..?
Vuk Jovanovic To be honest, my other chin did that and ii was never concerned unless he acted weird or tired all the time. Once he noticed that ii was gone all day, he started sleeping during the day again. But it’s fine if your chinnie chose her own schedule :)
i watch your videos around daily ever since i found your channel and i have one question for one of my chins. his name is snowball and he is something like an albino (his fur is more grey then white but his eyes red). i rescued both my chins from someone who wasnt keeping them how they should've. snowball seemed really normal at first but when i first had him running outside the cage he started running in a circle for a while, then stands still for a minute or so and moves his head from side to side (im guessing because he got dizzy). he only does that outside the cage. one of his eyes looks really weird and I went to my vet with him and he said he doesn't have a pupil in that eye, so he's blind on it. since i know that im really worried about things like, what if he falls down from one of the platforms in his cage, he misses his jumps sometimes, what if something happens? do you perhaps have a little something for me i could do for him? so i dont have to worry all the time?
Alex DabBoi Did your vet make any suggestions on how you can adjust the cage so that your chin doesn’t hurt himself? My concern if he’s blind would be that maybe the ledges are too far apart or too high off the ground. Have you ever seen him fall off?
One last question: do they chew on the fleece covers? Mine when she climbs up my arm she tries chewing on my shirt sleeve and actually does tug on it like dogs do so I worry if she will chew on the fleece blankets
chins don't like the friction of fleece fabrics on their teeth i think. whereas, cotton or other natural fibers, they don't mind tugging/chewing on. also fleece doesn't fray so it's pretty hard to tear without scissors or VERY sharp teeth, which they don't have. your chin will be fine.
Hello! I've been watching your videos for a while, since I'm hoping to get a chinchilla soon, and I have a few questions which I hope you can answer ^^ 1. I noticed you said there's a difference between Ferret Nation and Critter Nation cages. Would it be bad to get a Ferret Nation cage for a chin, cause I found a pretty cheap one, cheaper than any Critter Nation cages that I saw. 2. I will probably be keeping the chin in the basement since it is pretty quiet and mostly cold, though it can get a bit hot sometimes, maybe 26-27 degrees Celsius. Would that be bad for the chinchilla if it has some cold tiles or something to keep it cool in the cage? 3. What do you suggest I should make the fleece liners out of? I'm kind of confused about what kind of fleece people use for their chinchillas. Thank you in advance, and keep up the amazingly useful videos!
Andorra Either a ferret or a critter nation will be fine. The size is the same and the only difference are the bar spacing. Also, the degrees you mentioned are too hot, even with tiles. You would need to find a way to bring the temperature down to AT LEAST 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, ii already have a video ii uploaded last week about how to use fleece with Chinchillas so you should definitely check that out. :):) I️’m excited that you might get a chinnie!
do you take your chinchillas to regular vet visits? I just got one and Im not sure if I should set up just a routine check up for him at the vet, or if I should only bring him if I notice something is wrong
I’ve got a chin(Hercules) who has a cut on his foot most likely from the cat. It’s not her y big and He’s running and jumping like normal but he’s less active in his cage and babying it when it comes to letting me near. I don’t know if he’s in pain because I understand chins hide pain. He’s also been fur biting, only a little, but he’s never done that before. It looks like it might be healing. Do I need to take him to a vet? What should I do?
Green_ Blue Well, if you examine his foot and it looks bad and he keeps acting out of sorts in any way, I’d go the safe route and take him to the vet. You don’t want an infection to start, because it could be very dangerous to him. My suggestion and just to play it safe and get him checked out😊

I use tile instead of bedding for my chinchilla, but I’m worried that she might be uncomfortable with it, and I’m allergic to bedding! What should I do?
