+Jocibabyy13 research a lot about them and explain to your parents how you will take care of them and what gent eat and all of their needs to show them you care.
This literally happen to me but this is what I did. I have my own job so the money is mine to spend, I told my mother I wanted a sugar glider and that is buy whatever it needs and all of the extras and such. She told me no so I had a back up plan and said " okay well I'm still getting it but I'm keeping it at my friends house " and a couple days passed and the final day when I was going to drive and get my glider I told her I'm staying the night at my friends to take of my glider and then she said "your not keeping a pet at someone else's house" and to make this fast she ended up letting me keep it at our house
I made a costum cage for my future pair of sugar gliders using wood, chicken wire, and metal hinges. It's 70 inches tall, 40 inches wide, 25 inches deep. Very easy to make, cheap, and fits perfectly in my room because i measured everything
I love you so much because 3 years ago I used your channel on rat diet videos and stuff because I was getting rats for my 11th birthday to help with bullying issues at school. My rats just recently passed away and I’ve decided to go with a sugar glider because they live much longer. And I hate loosing pets so fast. But I really love your videos. They’ve helped me more then once now! ❤️❤️
As an owner of 5 gliders, I'm completely against using any sort of kibble/dry diet for Gliders. I'm sure a lot of people have had success with them, but my opinion is that if that's all that's offered to them then that's all they'll eat because they have to eat to survive. Just wanna suggest to people that do have their gliders on pellet food only diet to make sure they keep an eye on their weight. We "rescued" a glider from a pet store who had him on nectar and pellets. Our gliders were on a hand chopped fruits/veggies and custom made protein mix (we make a blend of required vitamins/calcium and cooked meat + occasional mealworm) diet and the poor chap initially didn't even recognize it as food. When we got him, he was 76 grams at 9 months - meaning that he was only eating enough to survive. His coat was stained and he was malnourished. 3 months later, he's 115g ... the stains are gone and he spends his entire night running in his wheel. Personally, I'm against a non-customized diet for gliders because they all have different likes and dislikes. All 5 of our gliders eat different things and so they get different things. Be careful with the dry food and pellets. It's easy but it's not the best.
+Tempered Torture I completely agree with you, a lot of people that have sugar gliders only feed pellets. That's why I made sure to emphasize that pellets should be a very small part of their diet if they include it. And yes, sugar gliders can be very picky and each has a favorite food! :)I'm glad you have had such success with your rescued gliders! Thanks for sharing!
Tempered Torture> Thank you so much! I really needed some better food ideas. I have 4 gliders, and I give them no dry/pellets now. Thank you so much! This was really useful.
Thank you! I would love to have two Sugar Gliders if we move! To bad my dad's dog gets excited around tiny animals, I wouldn't want to stress them out, so for now it's still a dream!
Very nice I kept them 18 years ago. Things have changed a lot. We will have them again. They make lovely pets. I took sometime for them to get bonded to me. Once they did. I really enjoyed them. They used to glide and all. Now our daugter would like to keep them. I encourage her and also to do her research.
don't pee where they sleep? mine pee all over their pouch, all they do is sleep and pee all day, and as far as not peeing on you, that must be how mine say hi then cause the first thing they do when they climb on me is pee
IDEA! With your cage, if someone added plexiglass to the bottom of your cage(as in the lower parts of the walls) and filled it to the brim with hamster bedding, it would make a great add on for the Detolf since the Detolf majorly lack height! It’d be fantastic for hamsters who love burrowing!
In your video, you said they won't pee on you or they don't pee where they sleep? Mine pee in all their pouches and all over me. Any time they are held, they pee everywhere.
Same. ALL of my gliders pee/poop in their pouches, on their toys, and they'll always try to pee/poop on me. It's their way of "marking" their owner as a sign of love/possession. Mine are all girls, too. I don't have any boys. So, I wouldn't tell people that gliders are "potty trained". Mine will go on anything they want to.
Thanks so much for this video! I plan on getting a sugar glider in a few years but want to do all my research now and gather as much about them so I'm prepared in the future. It's kind of hard to find accurate info on their care a lot of times and I've heard a lot of yes and no's on if they need to be kept in pairs so it was nice that this solidified it for me, I'll defeinelty get two. Thanks again, for all the info
Also as a side note I had a quick question. Is it possible to take them outside, like go for a walk with them in afternoon/ night (like when the sun starts to go down cause the light) ? Im just wondering for when I get one if I can take them into town in the late afternoon, its a small town so not too busy and not too many cars.
So I've been doing years worth of research on sugar gliders. I figured this would be the best way. Rather than getting sugar gliders, and then doing the research, I think this is wise. I still have yet to find any negatives about getting two sugar gliders. My tax return just came in and I found two female sugar gliders for sale for 250 bucks. I have to get a cage before anything else otherwise I can't get them. I'm waiting for the stars to align correctly in order for this to work out. I want these sugar gliders to have the best possible care in my possession. If I don't think they're going to get the attention or nutrition they deserve, I will not put them in that situation.
I have found that white mushrooms are A okay. If I don't have a hotbed veggie, I give them 1 and it is very rare but it's okay for them. It doesn't have all the nutritional values, but it's still fine for them to eat. Most gliders don't like mushrooms, but mine do
i know that sugar gliders lovess to eat mealworms...but mealworms sold in our country are not removed from the bug box so picking them out costs more...so can i feed them Dried Mealworm....i am asking this alsi because the package said ``Dried Mealworms for birds''...
Murshi p I would suggest getting about 50 alive putting them in bird seed with a potato. you can keep it all in one box and theyll keep multiplying. I have never given my glider dried bugs but she suggested that it was ok.
I'm looking into getting suggies, so I have some questions: How often should I clean the cage? Do sugar gliders need toys other than things to climb? Are sugar gliders really noisy once they're tame? How much fruit, vegetables and protein should I give them each day? Do their claws hurt?
Hi thank you so much I have to take care of 2 sugar gliders of my teacher. At my school we get to volunteer to take care of a animal, I got chosen a sugar glider.
Are the exotic nutrition sugarglider cages a good choice? I am currently looking at purchasing one of there packages. Although I thought I wanted to find something plastic/PBS coated(not many around), while theirs are powder coated I believe? Have you had any problems with them?
They definitely do pee/poop on you...they go everywhere and anywhere haha. They can be quite messy animals so make sure you prepare if you're going to adopt some. :)

@@HappyTailsAnimals I think you have a very skewed vision of what abuse means. I respect your videos, and you have lovely information. But there are some areas where you do contradict yourself.
Agreed thank you for posting this video and talking about them. I can't wait to have 2 of my own I'm excited about how I'm gonna make my cage I love the way you have made you're :)
Good news and bad news bad news I only have one sugar glider good news we are fostering some and might even buy one for our 6 year old Luna who is a sugarglider
I am rescuing a sugar glider, I run a small at home rescue. The problem is, the home I’m getting her from never got her a friend. She’s about a year old, and I would like to rescue a friend for her. Could you do a video on bonding?
I had sugar gliders for a few years and it was horrible...They loved peeing on the bars and flinging feces and food everywhere. It was a nightmare to clean. :( We also had really bad problems with fruit flies, especially fruit flies making nests in their cage pan (I found fruit fly maggots a few times in the 2 years that I owned my sugar gliders). My sugar gliders also used to bark all. night. long. It's very loud and sounds like a small chihuahua. They were very sweet and I loved them but I eventually had to give them to a relative because school was taking up so much of my time.
I'm going to start saving money for 2 of them... I raised a baby squirrel that was abandoned and it made me fall in love with animals similar to him... Sadly he left and I wonder about him a lot... I really want a sugar glider because I know how active they can be and etc, so I know I can keep a sugar glider busy. :) (well sadly they are illegal in California)
Hi I know I'm very late and you probably won't see this but I'm looking into getting two Sugar Gliders and was wondering if it would be okay because I have to go to school in the mornings and they would be alone for around 6 hours. Would that be alright for them because if it'll harm them I definitely won't get them until I can devote much more time to them. Thanks so much you're video was amazing and answered almost all of my questions❤️ keep up the good work!
I know this is an old comment but I just wanna say that in all likelihood the gliders would be asleep while you're at school, so that should be fine. :> They sleep during the day, and play from evening and through the night, so keep that in mind when it comes to planning your playtime. Good luck.
There's a contradiction on the dairy and fruit thing: eggs count as dairy, as do the yogurt balls. And what's with saying no fruits, when it was said earlier that strawberries can be given as a treat, strawberries are fruits last I heard.
How hard is it to take care of sugar gliders that have bonded to their previous owners? My friend got one from someone on craigslist and has been walking around with it in a pouch but she says he still won't let me touch or do anything with him.
The video might look better if u placed the camera a bit higher. Other than that, it's very informative n helpful. Other than that, if i am allergic to cats bcause of the fur, am I likely to be allergic to sugar gliders too?
I know this is an old video. but I've heard things in the past about them being allergic to cats, and some sellers wont sell them to cat owners. Is this true? and also, my other question is: do you know of a good seller for Sugar Gliders, or do you know of where I could find some sellers. I'm wanting two, and i have enough time to care and take care of them, I just don't trust a pet store in buying one and would rather buy one from a good owner and or seller. Thank you for reading.
MissIzzy 24 it's super unlikely that would ever happen; gliders literally live in trees up to 8x the height of her taller cage here in the Australian wilderness. Not to mention the fact that it's in the name - they are gliders. they literally have an inbuilt parachute. so even if they did fall, they'd catch themselves.
I have done my research and might be getting two males! I want to name one Alvin, like the chipmunk, but have no idea what to name the other. Any ideas?
i can't decide if i want sugar gliders or a chinchilla. im thinking chins aren't a good idea since I live in a hot, humid state. sugar gliders would be better since i have reptiles and could feed them the same bugs/food and supplements. i also love the bonding sugar's have with their owners.
I respect you so much for basing your decision off of how comfortable the animal will be. I've had so many people come at me for wanting to own sugar gliders, and I'm like who are you? You're not the one who's going to be taking care of them, I am!
Can u do a video on how to convince your parents to let u get a sugar glider

Speaking of sent rubbing off on the pouch, I’ve come up with a good idea, make the pouch out of a old shirt
T-shirts are not a safe material for sugar gliders.
Sugar gliders and ferrets are so pretty. I love both of them!!!!

same, my male loves to pee on me, on his pouch, all over my walls! lol its gross but i love him anyways.
Mine pisses in his pouch and when I take him out of his cage but the female only pisses when she gets out of the cage
Same. ALL of my gliders pee/poop in their pouches, on their toys, and they'll always try to pee/poop on me. It's their way of "marking" their owner as a sign of love/possession. It's not the case for everyone's sugar gliders tho is it?
If your sugar glider is a male, they can be more territorial and mark their territory everywhere they go.... o.o

There's a contradiction on the dairy and fruit thing: eggs count as dairy, as do the yogurt balls. And what's with saying no fruits, when it was said earlier that strawberries can be given as a treat, strawberries are fruits last I heard.
+TaraLynn Gray you seem a little confused, fruit is a main part of their diet. You can watch the diet video, hope it helps you
Eggs also don't count as dairy
You’re amazing! I want to be just like you! Thanks! I love ❤️ you’re videos now I want sugar gliders
Sarah Beckley i dont think so, im severly allergic to cats and my 3 gliders can rub all over my face and ive never had a reaction.
Happy Tails I have a question would the height in a sugar glider cage be unsafe if they fell or would they be fine?
MissIzzy 24 it's super unlikely that would ever happen; gliders literally live in trees up to 8x the height of her taller cage here in the Australian wilderness.
Not to mention the fact that it's in the name - they are gliders. they literally have an inbuilt parachute. so even if they did fall, they'd catch themselves.
Do suger gliders like cold humid climate? Should I get shavings for the bottom of the cage. What if we have a cat.
Please can you do a video on taking care of chipmunks please????
Please do more videos on sugar gliders I am thinking on getting one
+GamingDevil start by watching this video first please
I have done my research and might be getting two males! I want to name one Alvin, like the chipmunk, but have no idea what to name the other. Any ideas?
I. Love. Sugar. Gliders. And your rats 😜
Were did you get your sugar gliders from?
You should show a video of how sugar gliders glide in the air
i can't decide if i want sugar gliders or a chinchilla. im thinking chins aren't a good idea since I live in a hot, humid state. sugar gliders would be better since i have reptiles and could feed them the same bugs/food and supplements. i also love the bonding sugar's have with their owners.
I respect you so much for basing your decision off of how comfortable the animal will be. I've had so many people come at me for wanting to own sugar gliders, and I'm like who are you? You're not the one who's going to be taking care of them, I am!
I have never heard of this pet in my life 😂
