    The Sokani has a weird compressed and "noise reduction" sound. At first "sight", it sounds more rich and clear, but there's a lot of processing going on. I prefer to process sound in post. I'm afraid the Sokani sound can't be UNPROCESSED when recorded. BTW: the unedited RODE sound sounds a lot better (more natural) that the EQ-d one.

      Agree! for me there is no compitition in this case. Rode is the winner.

    I just bought the Sokani. It’s sounds amazing but one thing I hate is the noise reduction on it. It has this weird effect wear it literally cancels out all noise around it which may be good for you but if you’re outside and you want at least some other noises like the wind or cars moving you won’t get that. You’ll only get to ur voice. But by all means if you like that. Then this mic is perfect for you!

  • @WesPerry

    The Sokani is now down to only $99!
    Also, upon listening to this myself on UA-cam, in some ways the Sokani does sound clearer. But I just can’t get over all those random signal drops for no apparent reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

      The rode sounded aweful indoors - completely dead with no depth, while the sokani sounded rich ... lol, sound is so subjective, and I'm clearly not a sound expert :D

    Hey Wes nice review! I saw the twin set on Amazon for $119. We make basketball videos and we want to incorporate some mics while we play. Do you think we would have an issue with audio if we're running and jumping around? Especially when the mic rubs against us? and so do you reccommend spending a little extra on the RODE twin set.Thanks

    In my headphone the Sokani Tiny sounds muffled but the ride Go sound a bit clearer.. however the Sokani is amazing for the distance it covers so a definite plus for that.

    For live streaming using Switcher Studio, what 2 transmitter system is there to monitor what the other person is saying, (with no lag) if they are not next to you? For example, commenting on a sports game and the other person walks away a bit more than being in earshot. So we are not on camera, so we can have any type of headphones on and any type of microphone? I guess it's needs a headphone option and to be more like a walkie talkie

    I dont understand all the comments about the Sokani sounding better. Even if that was true, the constant loss of audio randomly makes it useless unless you feel that is the kind of audio you want for your needs.

    Hello, thanks for a great video. I film workout videos on iPhone and edit on iPhone. I am looking for a mic to use during the workouts including jumping, burpees and all things yoga. I also generally film outdoors with all the wonderful sounds you get from filming in a city outdoors. I don’t currently have the ability to edit my audio much more than just cutting it and changing the volume of it. Which mic do you think would be best? I think I might know your preference.Thank you so much!

    I bought this kit, seems to be working fine. But I found that the audio level is EXTREMELY QUIET.
    I turned up the gain all the way to +15db & volume go +15, even my 1DX2 gain to max, the audio is very faint & quiet.
    I had to do a lot of mix in the editing to get the loudness up but it also adds up background noise.
    I'm not sure if it's just my kit that is faulty, or I missed something.
    Now I kind of regret that I bought this Sokani Tiny, should have bought Rode Wireless Go instead.

    • @WesPerry

I've been looking at the Rode Wireless Go for a long time but at CAD 299 it is a bit high to what we would use it for, at least for now. Do you think the Sokani would be a good solution? I think the rode sounds better, especially on the bottom end. Also, the sokani tends to hiss a little. On the drop outs, did you adjust the frequency at all? It’s not an automatic sweeping scan like the rode, and should actually have much further range than the rode.

  • @edvardjuhasz

    Thanky for the review! I agree, somehow Sokani-s sound is much better in your video, its a littlebit confusing with what you say about it... One more thing, the video is so clear with the big bokeh..., first one minute i thinked about this is greenscreen...

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  4 роки тому

      The sound is definitely a matter of opinion. If you listen with good headphones the excessive sibilance of the Sokani is overwhelming, while the Rode has a great deal of richness in the mid to low tones that’s entirely absent in the Sokani.
      But as I said, to each their own ;)
      And the bokeh was because I was testing variable ND filters while shooting this video, and had to open the apertures fully to compensate for my 6 stops of light reduction 🤓

  • @ErikWerlin
    @ErikWerlin 4 роки тому

    For doing interviews not more than 50 ft away would you say the Sokani Tiny is just as good? Also would a sennheiser lapel mic work with it? I know rode said that it would work with the wireless go.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  4 роки тому

      You can plug whatever mic you want into it. Then at that point it doesn’t matter a whole lot which one you’re using.

    • @ErikWerlin
      @ErikWerlin 4 роки тому

      So with a really good mic would the sound quality be pretty much the same? If you were using a sennheiser lapel mic which one would you choose for interviews and basic stuff where the subject will be at most 50ft away?

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  4 роки тому

      Honestly I’d probably still go with the rode because of the level monitoring and the much better battery. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      But if you want to save a buck and all that is fine for you, yeah, there’s totally no reason not to put a nice mic on the Sokani for great audio quality.

I have been using the Rodelink which has worked great for a few years. But, more recently I have had instances where the channel was clean when testing, but later on began to pick up interference. On my last two shoots, I just connected a Rode Smartlav to my mobile phone and popped the phone in my talent's pocket and synced in post. The audio was crisp and clean, and dependable.

    Hi, My purpose is to record videos on my canon camera using a wireless microphone(just like the rode wireless go). But i also need something to be able to hear(wireless) the audio of the participants in Zoom calls or regular phone calls and talk to them.Bose QuietComfort 35 can do this.But it looks too heavy and lacks the ability of routing my audio to the canon camera (mic input 3.5mm )which is bit far from my desk. I don't want to buy two different things.
    So suggest me some wireless microphone that can transfer my audio clearly to the camera or laptop and also listen audio in calls.(a very minimalistic headset that looks good in the videos & video calls/detachable from the microphone setup when not in use).Please ensure it is compact, wireless, good quality microphone. If it is a user replaceable battery system, then it will be more convenient.

    The rode go will cause interference with other mics best to do them separately

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  3 роки тому

      That’s not really possible in this instance, as they operate on completely different wavelengths, and completely different communication protocols.
      Even so, when both units operate on the same wavelengths, I don’t mind risking interference, as that’s part of the test in my eye. If I could, I would set 50 active cell phones between myself and the camera, as that’s generally the situation I’m recording a wedding in. What works in my back yard might not work “at work”! 💩

      Much like shooting in raw or log, sometimes it’s better to have a flat, boring response curve that can be edited than something with a lot of colour. I find the Sokani Very difficult to equalize, while the Rode has a great amount of range captured that can be easily edited to taste.
