*One of greatest jazz pianists of all time. His mind is so full of music and imagination, that he never repeats anything. He even quotes other 10 pieces per minute, totally distorted. He disassembles everything and rebuild at his own way. I am a Jazz pianist, but by listening to him, sometimes I wish to stop playing.*
A brilliant pianist, and truly nice man. My memories of chatting with Martial, and some private recordings I have, keep me from crying too much at his passing. Rest in peace, Martial.
Thank you for posting this. I discovered him like a lot of people when I saw Godard’s “À bout de souffle” and then bought an album that had some of his other film scores on it. I love all of his work but the music he wrote for “Échappement Libre” is my favorite. It suits actors like Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo very well. RIP Martial Solal.

And humor. But, as with the great Mr. Byard, "outness" under such strict, mindful, control - always with an highly structural, architectural, achieved completeness.
*Common people are not prepared to listen to this. They´d better listen to Liberace, Richard Clayderman and things like that. They do not understand what´s going on here.*
A lot of occupy time with scales and arpeggios to get from moment A to moment B. You are correct in my opinion. Which is evidently in the minority here.
You are looking at the sun and are blind ! There´s no more creativity and imagination than that. I can even hear 10 other pieces per minute. He´s everything.

Probably only musician who played w/ both Django and Wes Montgomery,
Un grand artiste nous a quitté.
RIP, Martial.
RIP Monsieur Solal. A wonderful musician across many styles and genres. And a well-lived life by any standard.

Oh yeah!!! I can always listen to a recording of Martial I never heard before!!
Stunning. Thank you!
The great disassembler.
And he sure can put it all back together again too!
pure genius
Since Dizzy has gone, Solal is the funniest surviving musician of the old BOP era.
Yes - and it's for real: a true reflection of the character of the man. He has attained the genius of exposing, in music, who he is in life.
c'est beau la liberté ! ( et c'est pas donné à tout le monde ! ;-) )

I thought Johnny Carisi wrote BoPlicity.for the "Birth of the Cool" album, which Dizzy wasn't on.
Very much like Jaki Byard in his "outness."
And humor. But, as with the great Mr. Byard, "outness" under such strict, mindful, control - always with an highly structural, architectural, achieved completeness.
So you have forgotten In A Sentimental Mood in the medley...
Boplicity by Gillespie? Miles Davis and Gil Evans.
Macron aurait dû prendre quelques leçons avec lui sur l'art d'improviser. Non mais vraiment je t'assure.
Of course Boplicity was NOT written by Dizzy Gillespie, it was written by Cleo Henry and Gil Evans. Wtf!?
Yes, Cleo Henry is Miles Davis' pseudonym.
440 like. Je ne veux pas rajouter le mien, juste pour garder le LA (A 440 Hz)

I dont get Solal's style. I would like to love it but I just can't. It feels technique over music, intellect over emotion. over and over.
A lot of occupy time with scales and arpeggios to get from moment A to moment B. You are correct in my opinion. Which is evidently in the minority here.
Yawn.......zzzzzzzz...
Come back after your nap, Casper. But don't make any noise finding your table.

I’d hate to see how you’d react to free jazz!
