Before loading your project, turn on the dev camera. Then when you select your BGL and click "open in editor" the camera will change to a top down view. This view makes placing runways and taxiways a lot easier and it also helps with alignment. Using this "angled" view as shown in the video is very likely to yield lines that don't align with existing markings because your view is skewed.
19:45 - Click the node on the right, and then ctrl+click the node at the top. With two nodes selected, right click (anywhere), select "create path", those two nodes will be connected by a path. Click your new path, right click (again, anywhere), select "split path". A new node is created in the midpoint of the original path and it will be split into two separate paths. Drag this new point around to make a prettier curve. You can also split the newly created paths into smaller ones to get more nodes to make the curves look even better. What you demonstrate in the video is only visual. AI won't make that turn you created because the path isn't connected. Dragging the nodes "close enough so they detect each other" isn't a thing, that doesn't create a connection, it just draws lines which mean nothing to the AI. ATC will never tell you to taxi down that taxiway because as far as they are concerned, you can't actually get there, it's a disconnected part of the field (assuming there's no other VALID connections). At 21:20 those two nodes are not connected and should be, the same is true at the other side of the intersection. Dragging them so they overlap each other doesn't actually do anything except draw a line. If you're expecting only humans to visit your project, and you don't expect them to ever request taxi instructions from ATC, then it doesn't matter. But if you want the Sim to treat your custom airport like it would treat others, you need a fully connected environment, and use other techniques to get pretty lines.

Hi! I followed your tutorial and I got everything right. I managed to create a polygon and everything. I compiled it and installed it and it worked great. Today I tried to get rid of some trees that blocked the approach to SBJR (the airport in my neighborhood). I was able to do it, but a strange thing happened this time. After every "CTRL + Click" to add a node to the polygon, I wasn't able to add another node until I selected the editor window (that contains the polygon) again. Very helpful! I’m trying to create a slope in the runway. I guess the profile section will do it, but I really wanted the runway to follow the land contours and not be perfectly flat. If you don’t create a polygon before and add a runway it flattens the landscape anyway in the immediate area. Also is there a way to add navigation to the airport like ils. Or Rnav
Full Moon Party Video Hi, in the properties of your runway, you’ll see a Terraforming tab. I didn’t cover it in this video, because I haven’t fully figured that out yet. However, you can add some elevation points along your runway which will define the ‘slope’. Hope this helps
Teufelsrochen811 yeah I worked out the profile, to make stronger humps and dips you have to drag the control points created at the runway not in the profile graph. You must set control points from within the ui graph but to make larger changes you have to go to the runway
I tried to find a something about ILS, but i couldn't find anything. I guess if you edit an existing airport, you don't have to delete the approaches 9:00 .
Click on the taxiway point that the parking is coming from, control-click on the parking "circle", right-click and select "create path" to join them ... the heading in the parking will automatically be lined up with the newly created taxiway path leading into the parking. If the "centre line" for the parking is ticked, you'll see the T which is where the nosewheel will be put when spawning into that parking slot. You should see a small green arrow on the edge of the "parking circle".
Anyone know how to remove beacons (the actual default red and white scaffolding tower) from an airport? This airport I am currently working on has it sitting right in the middle of an apron.

There are 2 problems with this video! First problem: You are NOT speaking loud enough and you mumble your words!!!!!!!! You need to learn to speak up and speak clearly!!!!!!! The audio level of your voice is way too low!!!!!!!!!!! Second problem: The title of this video is MSFS 2020: How to Edit Default Airports! You have not taught us how to edit anything in this video. What you have done is opened a project that YOU have created and added new taxiways and runways, but NOTHING on how to edit a default airport. You need to discuss what the title of the video is or change the title to what you're going to discuss. You have not discussed anything on how to edit but how to add, and you're using the wrong choice of words in your title. What I want to know is how to edit a taxiway sign, a runway, or a parking spot in MSFS 2020 and I haven't found it anywhere. Microsoft has really messed up big time on the designations of it's taxiway signs and parking spots.
Please! Stop mumbling. Speak up, and slow down. Process your audio so the volume comes up (raising mic volume doesn't work as it makes you clip which sounds bad). There's videos on my channel that will teach you how to process your mic track so it sounds professional using a free audio program. Otherwise, people aren't going to get much past the first 2 minutes before straining to understand you at your worst (usually as your speaking volume drops). Awesome subject, would really like to learn more, but this is so hard to listen to. Hope you take this the way it's intended, as constructive criticism. Could you please do the above, and then redo this video as I would love to learn this, but just looking at 5:26 I can't understand a word you're saying due to your mumbling. You have to speak loudly and clearly or people will just pass you over. They can tolerate bad video, but not bad audio.
Okay. Note that this was my first ever audio tutorial without much preparation. At 5:26 i don’t think it’s hard to understand, but thanks for the advise

@@teufelsrochen8113 This would have been also my question. Is it possible to actually see what the default airport contains and looks like? Because it's sometimes not self-explanatory if a grass field has certain runways, taxiways or parking spots set as you can't see them (they are not paved). And without that I don't really know what to keep and what to delete from it before I modify the default one.
@@FlyingCsongor Hi, in this case you can turn on a special view mode in the Dev mode. In the top dev Mode bar, go to options and look for a airport show taxiways box. I’m not 100% sure if it’s called like that, but you’ll find it!
Who knows how to overcome the crash to the desktop while editing the runway in the editor?
Very good tutorial. Can you explain how to add veihcles parking and how they spawn? thank you
Hi, I’ve talked about it a little at 24:30. Place it using the objects window. You can configure the ramp/stand in its properties by right clicking on the stand -> properties.
You failed to tell us how to get into developer mode.
Could I still use MSF2020 Multiplayer if I would edit it?
Hello my friend, how delete or xclude the defoult parkings to set a new one?, i´m trying deleting all arrivals, all departures, all jetways....almost all in the airport propierties, nothing work. Need to set and put a new ones as a cargo or heavies without make a entire airport. A little help, tks in advance.
Adding or editing parking lots requires an Airport in the scenery editor.
I created a custom airport but in what folder do we put our custom 3D we export from Blender to show in the Objects list?
Hi, have a look at the ‘SimpleScenery’ sample that comes with the SDK. In there you’ll see the folder and definition structure
@@Mkvy You know more than I know about this then! Glad you figured it out
hello from 2022! the sdk was updated and a lot has changed! this video is barely usable for anything. thank you
Very nice video. Is there anyway you can add approaches like Rnavs or ILS? To airports that don't have them?
I tried to find a something about ILS, but i couldn't find anything. I guess if you edit an existing airport, you don't have to delete the approaches 9:00 .
@@teufelsrochen8113 Yeah hopefully they add something like that. Thanks anyway
Does anyone know what heading the placed parking is? Cause you can type in a heading but you cant see an arrow or something
I want to edit parking at an existing airport, but not recreate the whole airport.
It would be great if you could write this up as a PDF or Google Doc so it was easier to read through rather than watching a video.
Anyone know how to remove beacons (the actual default red and white scaffolding tower) from an airport? This airport I am currently working on has it sitting right in the middle of an apron.
You should be able to remove a beacon by placing a rectangle on it. In it’s properties there’ll be a ‘remove beacon’ option
Teufelsrochen811 you are a gentleman and a scholar!
Fantastic work, very informative. Thank you!
It would be great if i can contact you in personal!!
The title says edit default airports. I don't understand you seem to be making a new airport.
Hi, you’re right. Unfortunately this is the only way at the moment to ‚edit‘ default airports. As far as my knowledge goes, the airports are not saved as a package - they’re created by AI. Hope this helps 👍
Hello! do you know how to apply the elevation to the first polygon you create? with the terraform tool? or is there an option to set it to the right airport elevation? great video btw!
Hi, as far as I know it’s all done through the terraform tool. There might be another option, but this should be the easiest.
@@teufelsrochen8113 I finally could do it, I thought the altitude was in feet, but I realized that was on meters, so when I set the altitude of the runway, were way above de apron-taxi, so I adjusted it in meters and now they are good. am I right? the altitude is set in meters or feet on the SDK?
César Soto it looks like it’s all in meters. The developer team seems to be French so that might be why
I want to add parking spots to an airport that does not have any. So I can start cold and dark. how do i do that?
In the objects window, you’ll find a parking category. Add the parkings of your needs
They are part of the taxiway system (they're called "taxiway parking"!), so it only really makes sense to do the taxiways first then see my other comments above. I don't think you can connect to default existing taxiways.
If I just need to flatten some taxiways, can I do that only, or do I need to rework the whole airport?
Hi, of course you can only add a polygon without any changes to the default airport. That’s possible because all the shapes files will be compiled as a separate BGL file. Hope this helps
Teufelsrochen811 I want to just to put lights on an existing airport do I have to do the whole airport from start?
Thanks for your videos! Can you talk a little bit more in depth about the parking itself? I cannot get it to work
Hi, I haven’t mentioned parkings in detail, because it’s quiet self explaining I think. In general you just place a parking from objects window. Right mouse click -> properties. That’s where you can find all the many options. Might upload another video where I explain it in more depth.
@@teufelsrochen8113 yeah. I could not make them work because the parking and the taxipoint were not connected. But there’s some things l’m still missing. I cannot manage to edit any of the options like the marshaller or the external power. Thx for the help!
@@a320cat4 Yes, the parking spots should be connected to the taxiways. Select the last taxiway point that planes should use before entering (or first when exiting) the parking and control-click the parking area so both are selected: right click and choose create path from the menu. If you don't want lines then turn them off in the properties of the taxiway path.
Can u explain the polygon part again when i click the left mouse it doesn’t leave a mark

How can you get rid of existing buildings and planes?
If you want to get rid of airport buildings and static placed planes, just draw/place a polygon as shown in the video in the desired area.

Can you define that a little more?
@@teufelsrochen8113 I built my airport on an island so it had a little gradient (I think that's the issue, not sure). So I spawned a couple of pushback tugs and a couple of group power units from the sim objects tab and placed them at my desired spot, after doing everything and launching the airport from the menu, 2 of those vehicles start randomly moving and endup in the ocean, so I had to remove the ground power unit.
@@buttplug22 Same for me ... I put some stairs at non-jetway parking spots and they rolled away from their parking spots downhill! Haven't found a way to limit their movement.

Hi, you can find Papi lights Settings in the runway properties
@@teufelsrochen8113 hello again ... yes i can find the setting... but the lights not working... some people and developeds have same issue.
@ You need to set the slope in the PAPI object's properties: they are given a value of 0.00000000 when created which you can change to 3.00000000000000000 (or whatever you want).
@@salokin1 thank!!
How did you remove the default airport? Could you give me time stamp of the video?
Hi, timestamps have just been added. To fully remove the airport you have to create a flattern as shown in the video ( make sure you tick all the delete buildings options ) and then just add the airport. The stuff you won't select in the 'to delete' tab will stay default 9:00 .
Teufelsrochen811 Thank you. The reason why I asked you is because i did the same thing before but didn’t work.
Guess I’ll have to try again.
Again, thanks for uploading this tutorial.
How to add customised buildings to the new airport?
Have a look at the SDK Samples that comes with the SDK installer
The sample in SDK is for runways creation only. :(
I don't want to create 2 project for one airport! Must exist a way to create the airport and add the customised objects.
Hi! Great video!
While I was working on the apron section, the sim crashed somehow. I saved the project but how do I open the project that I have been working on? When I select either the _SHP or _ARP file it doesn’t do anything, am I doing anything wrong ?
Do I need to compile the project before being able to reopen it in the sim again?
MIchel, could you solve this? I have the same issue and couldn't find any answers
Patricio Cepellotti no not yet. Still waiting for a reply from somebody who has a solution ?
Hi, after you’ve opened the project, click on the drop down button in the Project Editor to see your aaset groups. Select the BGL, where all your progress is saved ( ‘edoptuto BGL’ in the Video ). Having that done, go to the Inspector and click ‘Load in Editor’.
Your progress will be displayed in the Scenery Editor.
Teufelsrochen811 problem is that I cannot even open the project. When I open the file (either the arp or shp file) the project editor is completely empty. Nothing to select.
@michel you have to open the .xml file on the main folder, and then what @Teufelsrochen811 said
Hi....Is there any way to correct a wrong taxiway in default scenery with out first excluding the existing runways, taxiways etc. and recreating the entire thing again, that would be a very tedious job☺️

Anyone want to modify an airport for me, willing to pay
@@teufelsrochen8113 Nah your tutorial was perfectly fine imo

Is there any way to edit already placed taxiways and runways? I want to change the Taxiway letters to accurately reflect the airport, as they seem randomly generated, making taxiway charts useless.
No, not yet unless you created everything on your own again. Airport Design Editor will help you with this. As there isn’t an official update yet that supports MSFS2020, you could try this: ua-cam.com/video/ou8ksS2Ytm8/v-deo.html
Best to re-create them yourself and exclude existing ones.
