  • A hearty, comforting one-pan dish perfect for any family meal. This cobbler features a savory minced beef filling, rich with flavours of onions, garlic, carrots, celery, and potatoes, all simmered together in a robust tomato and beef stock base. The filling is seasoned with Worcestershire sauce and thyme, giving it a deep, satisfying flavor.
The crowning glory of this dish is the delightful cheddar cheese suet dumplings. Made from self-raising flour, Atora suet, and a generous helping of grated cheddar cheese, these dumplings are soft and fluffy on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside. Their cheesy richness perfectly complements the savoury beef filling.
Cooked entirely on the stovetop, the dish is finished by steaming the dumplings on top of the beef filling, ensuring they soak up all the delicious flavors. Served hot, this minced beef and potato cheddar cheese cobbler is the epitome of comfort food, offering a deliciously warm and satisfying meal for any occasion.

Remember, when following a recipe, you must taste the dish as you go along. All recipes may require some adjustments to suit your personal preferences. These recipes are complete and make for great foundations you can tailor. I hope you enjoy cooking as much as I do.
Taking Cooking food back to basics.
    Ingredients:
    For the Minced Beef Filling:
    - 500g minced beef
    - 1 large onion, finely chopped
    - 2 cloves garlic, minced
    - 2 carrots, diced
    - 2 celery sticks, diced
    - 200g mushrooms, sliced
    - 1 tbsp tomato puree
    - 400g canned chopped tomatoes
    - 300ml beef stock
    - 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    - 1 tbsp butter
    - 1 tbsp vegetable oil
    - Salt and pepper to taste
    - 1 tsp dried thyme or a few sprigs of fresh thyme
    For the Cheese Suet Dumplings:
    - 100g self-raising flour
    - 50g Atora suet - use the butter to 50g if you have no suet
    - 50g grated cheese (cheddar works well)
    - A pinch of salt - optional
    - A pinch of pepper - optional
    -A Pinch of dried Thyme
    - Cold water (about 75ml)
NOTE: As I said in the video, if you cannot get suet, you can make the same type of dumpling with Butter. They will be a tad heavier.

Nice practical everyday recipe with ingredients most of us have on hand, when the frequent question comes up: "What's for supper?" Easy solution, especially with one pot meals ("Eintopf"). Our Soup Kitchen will be offering this version topped with cheese dumplings for a nutritious, filling meal to our growing homeless/food poverty population.
We also cook this for ourselves at home too.

Love the one pot, stovetop meal! Great for someone with limited mobility and limited ability to lift/carry heavy hot items to/from the oven. This has now become my style of cooking, unless someone is visiting who can manage the lifting. Love the idea of the cheddar cobbler topping. Never would have thought of that. Great way to slightly alter my typical fare (Italian-style ragu) with a couple of starch and herb substitutions to mix it up a bit. Thanks, Rik!

Interesting take on steamed dumplings. I make something similar on top of a chicken or beef soup with dumplings - in the USA, it's lard (rendered pig fat) or schmaltz (rendered chicken fat) rather than suet that's used.

This is real cooking. This is how my old Mom used to do it. Good one Rik. For those of us in the States, "Bizquik" makes a nice fluffy dumpling if you can't find suet. To me, fluffy dumplings are the way, those gummy chewy kind they like in the south, sucks in my opinion, but hey...whatever you like :) We always called this 'Hamburger Soup'...easier to say than your version Bud :) It is delicious and this is a good version. It probably should have been called "hamburger and let's see what else we got soup". Make this folks, it's gud fud.

My mom used to make a "chopped beef stew" with hamburger meat. Basically everything that would go in a regular beef stew, but a quick version using minced beef. Pretty similar to this recipe, but in a more vertical soup pot and no dumpling/cobbler topping. I haven't made it in a while. Thanks for reminding me.
