  • Humans are hardwired to think, act, and behave in survival mode most of the time-and this mindset has been made worse by social media-fueled polarization, tribalism, and disconnection from others and self.
Because of this, we’ve seen record-breaking highs in anxiety and depression, and modern medicine’s solutions have not stacked up. Psychedelics could be one potential solution for true healing by opening up the gateway beyond our physical world and into the mystical world-the bigger picture of our existence.
Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru sits down with Dr. Ellen Vora to talk about the power of psychedelics in healing from traumatic experiences and unlocking deeper meaning and purpose in life. For the right person, psychedelics can provide a sense of peace and hope that helps heal our inner wounds and allows us to live with more freedom and less judgment.
Dhru and Ellen talk about the difference between psychedelics and antidepressants and why psychedelics may be a safer option for long-term relief by getting to the actual root cause of the pain. They also discuss how race and culture play into our beliefs about humans and why everyone deserves a seat at the table to feel loved and accepted as they are.
Dr. Ellen Vora is a board-certified psychiatrist, acupuncturist, yoga teacher, and author of The Anatomy of Anxiety. Dr. Vora received her BA from Yale University and her MD from Columbia University. She takes a Functional Medicine approach to mental health, considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root. Today, Dhru and Dr. Vora’s conversation is about how psychedelics can support radical healing for some people and be part of their evolution of healing from trauma, loss, PTSD, and even fear of death.
In this episode, Dr. Ellen Vora talks about her journey of exploring the world of psychedelics, specifically ayahuasca and psilocybin, and what those experiences were like for her. If you’ve been curious about the topic of psychedelics, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn more, even if you don’t have any plans to experience them firsthand.
In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Vora dive into:
    -Using psychedelics for treating depression
-The “chemical imbalance” theory and the pitfalls of prescription antidepressants
-How psychedelics can help broaden perspective and relieve anxiety
-Unlocking the “mystical experience” of psychedelics
-Dr. Ellen Vora’s psychedelic experience with psilocybin
-How to prepare, interpret, and integrate lessons from ceremonies
-How psychedelics can help you access and release deep emotional pain
-Awakening to familiar patterns and unlearning them
-Looking at life through the lens of other cultures
-Recognizing every human being in their full autonomy
-Approaching psychedelics with reverence and surrendering to the bigger picture
-Where you can follow Dr. Ellen’s work

Drugs to cope with living in a very harmful society and economy. The real issue lies in the environment, not the body. The body is responding the way it SHOULD

I wish I could find a competent psychiatrist like Dr. Vora. Diagnosed with MDD in 2014. I want to know what it is to LIVE and not just exist. It’s robbed me of so much.

I’ve had anxiety for 45 years. I went carnivore with bits of veg about 6 months ago. No antacids now and anxiety gone. Never felt better. In my view it was diet.

Conventional Medicine doesn’t check vitamin and mineral deficiency or hormone levels which messes with our mental health, now we are skipping straight to psychedelics.

Fascinating info. However the "mediocre whilte male" comment negated much of what she said she experienced. Kudos for Dhru pointing out that growing does not come by putting down others, rather by raising all. Would have thought she found this in her tranformative all loving, higher power ceremonies. Needs to work on integration apparently.

Worried she mentioned that the holistic approach didn’t work for a patient with ocd and she had to use a low dose ssri as I have ocd and don’t want to be relying on this medication long term due to the side affects
