#54. Frothy Resin Waves on a Wooden Lazy Susan - Using a New Heat Gun and Attachment
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 лис 2020
- Beachy transparent resin waves on a 40 cm (15.7 inch) acacia lazy Susan. The true colour is much more turquoise than the camera shows and the second layer gave it so much depth. It turned out so perfectly!
The new unbranded heat gun is 220V 2000W corded with temp range of 60-650C (140-1202F).
I bought this one: www.ebay.com.au/itm/220V-2000... (edit - this link doesn't exist anymore, sorry)
I used dark turquoise and titanium white pigment pastes, and DiamondCote resin from Just Resin.

I would stop in half! Wooden turquoise texture is amazing, too.
I’m just mesmerized by watching you do this!! And I’m also in awww, of your ease with these waves!!! I’m so envious!!
This is incredibly! I’ve watch so many videos on how to do this. The wait time of 20 minutes has given me more success. I can not even begin to tell you how many failed attempts I’ve had. Hundreds of dollars in resin.
I have made huge messes and hours of cleaning things up after an attempt. I’m so impressed how carful and meticulous and seemly effortless you do this. I think maybe I saw one drop on you paper. You have really mastered the art. Your work is beautiful. I aspire to you that one day I’ll get the hang of this and have success. Thank you Nancy,
Ohh Nancy, thank you for your kind words but I feel your pain. It took me a good 6 months of trial and error to get any kind of lacing, and I'm still figuring out what works and what doesn't.
If I wait till my resin is nice and thick like cold honey, I get the best results. Thicker seems to hold the cells without them blurring (as long as you don't heat it too much with the heat gun or a torch).
Best of luck finding your sweet spot! I know you'll get there 😉
Your technique is amazing 👏
Have you ever used the ocean coat by just resin?
It's thick... would you still wait until it gets more thicker?
I feel your pain Nancy... I'm learning and spent so much on resin and have thrown so many unsuccessful attempts away 😢
I so hear you!! I’ve ruined so many pieces by the last steps of the waves!! Cannot tell you how frustrated I was! She makes it look so perfect and with such ease…I could only hope! I think my problem is the resin I use. But then waiting for it to thicken up, then sometimes it just won’t blow out…I feel your pain!!!
Excellent tutorial

@@Procrastipainter 💖🥰
This is fantastic. It's obvious you have.done this many times before. Thank you for sharing.
Love it.... Absolutely beautiful....love your space here on UA-cam and often peruse your videos.... Ordered some Titanium White and Dark Turquoise the other day. Can't wait to get it here in Colorado!
Thanks for watching and for your kind words 😁 ohh that's always exciting to get to colours! Pro tip: you will need only the tiniest amount of the dark turquoise. It's super pigmented and a little goes a long way so that one jar will last you a long time
@@Procrastipainter thank you for the advice as I sure as heck would have made the first batch too dark! Question, i tried using some turquoise from another vendor a couple months ago and my wood was a pine, so a bit light yellowish. The turquoise against the light yellow looked very green. Do you have to take into account your backgrounds when judging which colors to use? I noticed you used acacia wood I think....
For sure yes you do! Much more so for the transparent colours. You could always give the pine either a full white paint cover or white wash (So you can still see the wood grain). Just make sure it's water based, not oil.
Very good video and good explanations, ordered a small torch to try and get cells to show up.
Thank you so much 😁 best of luck with the new torch, just me careful not to scorch your resin. Keep the flame off the resin of you can and keep it moving 👍
Extremely good video , thank you...
Thank you so much for your kind words 🥰
This is so awesome.
Thank you so much 🥰😁
This is possibly the most realistic beach pour I've seen. Beautiful 👍
Thank you so much for your kind words 🥰💙
Beautiful work.. I have been trying beach scenes for about 6 months now and about six different alcohol inks, I just can’t seem to get the same cells you get.. You make it look so easy!
Thank you 🥰 I know how frustrating that is! I'm using titanium white pigment paste from Just Resin. It's likely to be more pigmented and possibly heavier than the alcohol ink, which helps with the cells. FYI I've done a few comparison videos of different whites on the market if you're interested? There might be one you already have or can get easily?
Superb ❤❤❤
I watched with my jaw on the floor. Thanks for showing us the beautiful 🌊 technique.
Aww thank you so much for your kind words and for watching 🥰💙
Aha I m just loving this art piece, getting lost in the sound of beach❤❤❤❤❤❤

Looks amazing. Great work. I've watched at least 20 different methods now and this one looks the best.

Lovely. Thank you.❤
Very well done..
Thanks 🥰💙
beautiful, thank you
Bellísimo!!!
I love the way you make it is so beautiful. the voice over cracks me up, great sense of humour 🤣
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching 🥰💙
So pretty❤
I have seen many others use different blues in order to achieve that transition from shallow to deep, but simply blending the one colour with the clear looks much more natural, the lacing looks great too, well done.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching 🥰💙
Gorgeous
Thanks 🥰💙
Omg, ficou perfeito ❤
Thank you so much 🥰
Amazing
ITS SO BEAUIFUL IM GOING TO CRY
Aww thank you so much for your kind words and for watching 🥰💙
Amazing!
Thanks 🥰💙
Потрясающе! И звуковое сопровождение - огонь... когда слышала шум волн представляла себя на пляже))) прям медитация. Спасибо большое 👍
Thank you so much for your kind words 🥰 I'm glad you liked the sounds 🌊
Beautiful 🌊💙 Absolutely love the fact that you use a spoon ! I use the same method! For preciseness and control and the fact that you don’t let any resin drip to waste! 👏🏻
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching 🥰💙
The spoon was such a great tip, I love the control 😍
What kind of heat gun it is ? I tried everything but couldnot get the cells
@@PremiumAutos It’s the way / Technique you use the heat gun and Blow torch that help you create these cells 🌊💙
@@Surferchick90265 what is the technique?
It's a no-brand 2000W with high and low flow, 50-600C variable temperature. Without knowing that your specific issue is, I can't really help much, sorry
I love love ❤️ your name. I spend alot of time day dreaming, imagining my future art.
Thanks 🥰 I spend more time thinking about making art than actually doing it 😂
Best I’ve seen
Thank you so much 🥰
I am a woodworker using resin for inlays and have been wanting to learn how to do this. Your video looks like I actually can do it! Thanks.
Of course you can! Practice on something small till you get the look you want. Best of luck!
Excellent

Thank you 🥰 it is a lot of fun to do
so good! Going to have a go! Love the robotic "20 minutes later" lol
Thanks and best of luck 😁
The colors seem more natural using your technique
I'm incredibly impressed. I want to try doing this. I'm in love with this effect. It's the hand of a master. I see the video is old, but maybe someone can tell me exactly which colors were used here. It means a lot to me because I want to try my hand at it. Please let me know what colors these are.
fabulous! it's always nice to learn from you. I want that heat gun, I have to find it in Italy. Rule #2 torch for more cells.
Thank you so much 😁 I know there were lots to choose from on eBay alone but they all looked the same to me! Yes, but torch gently, don't scorch your resin 😉
Look at the picture after the job is done. How can this realism be achieved with a 1 cm thick chemical layer and a few colors of pigment? miraculous effect. gorgeous and unique. and also being able to do this every time. I can't understand, it's just a magnificent dimension of reality. It's not like it was made by hand. the moment of water flow is stopped and frozen. in one word AMAZING
Thank you 😊
Это шедеврально!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The look of the wood beneath is like the sand and it’s beautiful. Just my opinion
Thanks for your kind words 🥰
This is gorgeous! I tried doing a similar project but I couldn't get the waves. I let the white sit but it didn't seem to get thick. It just ran in to the blue and looked like clouds. This was after trying three layers, three days in a row. I figured out the second layer, that I was working in the basement and it might have been too cold. Also, is it possible that I waited too long after the working time of the resin? I mixed the white first but maybe I took too long to get to it? Is that why it was always too thin. It just wouldn't thicken up.
If it's cold where you're working, the resin will take longer to cure. But also it might not cure properly. From the resins I've used, their instructions say the room needs to be 20-25C. During the winter, I'll set a space heater to 21 about an hour before I start mixing. I leave it running for about 24 hours to help the resin cure properly.
Unless you mixed the ratios wrong, it will thicken. It will just take longer when its cold.
I like the spoon idea. I’m not good at control with a popsicle stick!
The spoon I use seems to hold a fair bit too
@@Procrastipainter haha 😂 - you’d make a hell of a surgeon with hands as steady as yours! I don’t know about anyone else, but as soon as it comes to laying down the white my hands are like jelly and messy - but hey, no waves are perfectly uniformed (my excuse and I’m sticking to it 😂) your work is outstanding, I love it.
I’m just getting stock back together to have another go at this resin stuff after being very unwell for a long time and it’s great to refresh the memory.
It seems like every man/woman and their dogs at it now though 😆
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching 🥰💙
My hands are only steady when I don't think about it - I can imagine shaking like a chihuahua if I had a scalpel in my hand 🤣
And the wobbly white line makes it more realistic 😉
I'm sure it will come back soon enough. It's like falling off a bike...

Tres beau bravooo
Thank you 🥰
I really need to know what is the best white to use . I've tried two different white pigments that I hated. Help? Thx beautiful work!
What were the two you tried already? I've made a couple of comparison videos that might help?
Bellissimo
It is beautiful & I love the layering bc it looks more realistic, but why don’t more artists use sand for the beach or tan or gold glitter? Still seeing that wood under there kind of defeats the entire beach scene for me. Thanks for the lovely video sharing your techniques & the nice smooth music in the background. It’s beautiful, but I hope you do one in the future with some sand for the beach area. You are very talented & I love the frothy waves you created.
Thanks for your kind words Sherri 💙 I don't like putting sand on the food-functional items purely because it wouldn't clean properly. But the clocks I've done all have real sand 😉 I definitely prefer the waves over real sand too. And I've been trying to figure out how to do a golden sandy beach for a while now 😁
Ive learned so much using your technique. I have never layered lazy susans as I have always felt they need to be one even layer with no ridges - and as such the waves are not as pronounced at the edges. I'm thinking I could do a flood coat over once the layering is all done. (and I have got into the habit of saying to myself in that accent "tventy minutes later" lol). What would you recommend my guru?
LOL guru 🤣 That's awesome (and funny about the twenty minutes later)! If you want it completely flat, yes do a flood coat. You may need to do more than one though if the resin goes off the sides.
Good luck!
Lovely job! Do you find making a lazy Susan w 3d layers vs fully flat surface to be a problem when using?
Thanks 😁 The layers aren't that much of a step but I guess it depends what you're putting on it. It might be a couple of mm step if that
So beautiful. 🤩 Is there much of a ridge at the edge of the wave when finished?
Thank you 😊 there is a ridge but not much - about 2-3 mm?
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Lastima que no tiene subtitulos, 😊 Felicitaciones
What do you use to seal the wood after sanding?
I love your videos big fan i have made trays and they came out great but I put a clear layer over entire thing in end otherwise would be uneven .. I wanted to make a lazy Susan for my mum but is there a “step” from the waves? If so then wouldn’t that cause things on the lazy Susan from being uneven ? Do you put a clear coat over entire piece please let me know how to complete the piece so there isn’t a lump or uneven resin
Thanks 🥰 yes there's a step, about 1mm. You can absolutely put a clear coat over the whole thing to make it completely flat
Amazing work. What type of resin I should be use for outdoor table. (SUN AND RAIN WHEATHER) thanks
Thanks! You might have to look that up yourself. I know that any resin will eventually yellow, but in the sun it will happen faster. You should contact the resin company to get more info
Beautiful, where would I find a piece like you have to put on the heat gun, it would work better for the waves?
Thanks 😁 I got the heat gun and attachment from eBay. I don't think the link I got it from works anymore bc they sold out
it's very beautiful, can you tell the total quantity used in your project please and is it possible to use the blowtorch for all resins? Thanks a lot.
😍 Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. You seal the wood with what.?
Thank you 🥰 It's a clear water based wood sealer by Cabots here in Australia
@@Procrastipainter thank you 😊
