Couple that with the fact that Toyota Hybrids are apparently made from unobtainium. I was told a year and a half ago that there was a 5 to 6 month waiting list for a Highlander hybrid and an 18 to 24 month wait for a RAV4. So, no, to me options are a long way from being the most important thing, especially when one is denied any choice with aa super long wait list. Availability is the most important thing. You didn’t cover at all which car is more comfortable, quiet, smooth riding, all around freeway and Intown driving, and all-around comfortable. Just because the RAV4 has more options doesn’t make it a better car!

We have both the RAV4 Limited Hybrid and the XSE Premium in a gas only model. They are our first Toyota vehicles. While we like both but the Hybrid is a step above. The drive and features are worth the price tag. The mileage is worth the price tag. The biggest issue with the non limited trims is the passenger seat. Toyota made a big mistake not having fully adjustable passenger seats. I’m 6’4” and the comfort as a passenger is night and day between the two models! The 8 models don’t mean much if Toyota doesn’t sharpen their pen on the details. The newest infotainment system is definitely a miss too. It’s full of glitches and many of these cause distractions while driving! It’s a good car but to stay on top and not end up like the big 3 Toyota mist keep their details in order!!!
I prefer the simplicity of Toyota's hybrid system. No transmission, no transfer case, no driveline, no differential, regen brakes on all 4 wheels so very little wear on brake pads Plus, my CRV hybrid friends are only getting around 28-30 mpg, while my RAV-4 friends are getting 38-40 mpg. Next gen RAV-4's will all be hybrids bringing an end to the hybrid waiting game. Nice! 👌
@@lionintu Yes. The RAV-4's rear wheels are powered by a 3rd electric motor which also provides regenerative braking to the rear wheels, whereas the CRV hybrid uses a standard differential.
@escheidl ahhhh I see. Thats great engineering. Too badI just dont like the ride , nor space and style of the RAV4. And I need a lot of back support, which is why Im Choosing CRV. Maybe Ill test drive the Crown Signa as an alternative since its engineering is great like RAV4. Hopefully there's enough back support and it sits upright enough, but i doubt it.
I really did want the RAV4 hybrid XLE but I didn't like how I have to go up a few trim levels just to get leather seats/ fog lights. More then likely I'm going to get the Mazda cx50 hybrid considering the base gets so much stuff standard unlike Toyota
Yes. Toyota was adding extra costs with a higher interest rate while Honda took money off. Rav is a great product no doubt and offer hybrid system throughout lineup. But I got a $5,000 more expensive CRv, for $7 extra monthly.
I had a 2023 CRV & traded it in at 5,200 miles for a 2024 RAV4, & couldn’t be happier! The 6th Gen CRV’s are having quite a few issues. There are 2 major recalls (EPS Rack aka “Sticky Steering Wheel” & for an issue with the fuel pump). The CRV also has had issues with the backup cameras switching to black & white, faulty fuel injectors, failed safety ratings for backseat passengers, cracking & distorted mirrors, etc. Plus there is no battery filter on the CRV hybrid, whereas the RAV4 has that filter and that will help with the longevity of the battery. The CRV hybrid also doesn’t come with a spare tire, which I know has been a dealbreaker for many.
Honda released a hybrid in the US before Toyota. This particular system in the CR-V is mostly unchanged since it debuted in the 2014 Accord, while Toyota's is fundamentally the same since 1999, but has had far bigger changes.
I just bought a 2024 rav 4 le hybrid and I love it. The price is well done as well. The Honda dealerships here in my town are priced too high for me. I think both cars are great. Each person has needs and wants. For me and my family the rav 4 fits us just fine.❤❤❤❤❤❤
But can you get a rav4? Where I live there’s at least a 1 year (maybe longer) waiting period to get a hybrid rav4. The Honda dealer has some hybrid crv on his lot.
I ordered my RAV4 Hybrid 2024 in Ontario beginning of September. Then got a notice a month ago, it was being changed to the 2025. Then a week ago, I was told it was landing mid-December. As the dealer told me it would be about 8 months, this was a surprise. 3-1/2 months wait is not bad.
@@SusanMiddleton1 I waited 11 months in 2022 for a 2022 rav4, I am on the waitlist for a 2024 RAV4 but they said it’s gonna probably come mid 2025 so by that time I’ll have been on the list for over a year. I considered the CRV but I wanted the 360 camera which the cry does not have.
Need to add "Canada" in your title. In US, there are 3 trims for hybrid Sport, Sport~L and Touring the cheapest Sport starts at 35k usd. And can pretty much customize the vehicle on Honda website to get a "woodland crv". In the US, most Toyota dealers will not let you go paying msrp without some markup fees added. But Honda, not adding spare tire is a bummer and some recalls didn't help either.
Interesting review. Other Canadian reviewers mentioned there are more Toyota options but fewer Honda options in Canada. I know here in Las Vegas, I got the 2024 Sport L Hybrid,, but there were two more hybrid CRV options as well. With gas still not below $3 a gallon here (we pay more because we have to use California refineries) I am glad I'm getting 45 mpg overall, though, we have a real negative here compared to most parts of Canada...extreme summer heat. It hit 120F (almost 49C) this summer, so that mpg slips below 38 then. As a 77 year old, I must have a spare tire as I don't want to wait in our heat to be towed, but unfortunately, Honda does not provide the spare tire in the CRV hybrid...only the gas model, whereas Toyota does provide it. They do the same thing for the Accord, but do have a "space" to put a tire kit but that is an extra $500. I really, really wanted to look at the RAV 4 Prime before I got my CRV as I had a 2017 Bolt EV years ago, but none were available here in Las Vegas (I could have picked one up in California) but dealers tend to add dollars to the MSRP. Anyway, thanks for the review...I will definitely look at Toyota for my next SUV...or...my next sedan. I think the XLE Camry could be a worth competitor to the Accord EX-L hybrid sedan. Thank you.
Test drove a Honda crv, very nice driving compared to a Rav4. Rav 4 is missing features like TPMS in Canada yet they include it in the Us. Never mentioned by reviewers. Toyota fan boy review. Got to love them.
Picking up my Rav4 Hybrid XLE next week. I will take end of production run reliability every time over the 'new' model glitches that Honda is experiencing....and the price difference is insane.
I test drove both before purchasing my 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. The Honda drove heavier and felt more solid, but I preferred my experience with the Toyota dealer services over Honda dealer services
Which would be the model to go if I am looking primarily for a smooth an comfortable drive Comfort being the prime factor both for long and city drives
You are right! Just had a flat in Aug 2024 in the middle of nowhere. If we did not have a spare who knows how long we would have to wait for someone to bring a tire because we had the side wall get cut and we needed a brand new tire. Thank god we had a spare.
Good review. I own a 2024 CRV Hybrid, but here in the U.S., we have 4 hybrid models. I have the Sport L, which is between the Sport and Sport Touring. I am disappointed that compared to my 2020 gas CRV, they cut back on what I consider essentials...spare tire, temp gauge, tire pressure system for individual tires, but overall it has been a very reliable vehicle. If I had to do over again, I do think I'd look at the RAV 4, though the plug-in RAV 4 is hard to find and few discounts. I guess I'm the odd one in my family as most of my family have Toyotas. Thanks for the good review. Sorry, just realized I was wrong. There are only three hybrid CRV models in the U.S. The EX-L is gas only on the CRV, but is hybrid on the Accord. Sorry.
Bro, I drove 98 corola, 2006 camry, and test drove 2024 rav4 hybrid. They All have the same fuckedup breaking system. You press break pedal- nothing happens, then you press harder and suddenly breaks too hard. I did not experience this with any other car. Are they ever going to do anything about this?
Did you mention anything about the wait for a RAV4 vs. the CRV? I get sick and tired of seeing what I want and finding out it is sold. That's even after you give up on most of what you want because the allocated ones don't have it.
Ordered my 2025 RAV4 hybrid SE early September and getting it in December. I'm in Ontario, Canada and only an hour away from where it's being made in Woodbridge, if that makes a difference. Yes, wait times have been 2 years in some cases and I was warned it could be 8 months. So, surprise!
I bought a Honda because every Rav 4 was sold before it even hit the dealership. I had done some extensive research and I knew the local Honda dealer had one Sport Touring. Took it for adrive and then bought it. I don't know how the Rav4 rides. But the Bose sound system is much better than the JBL. In a couple of years, planning to trade if I can find something I like.Probably a toss up between the Camry and the Accord. Plus, I don't carefor the Pano roof but its hard to get a Camry that is optioned without the Pano and then it brings down the featured options I like.
Only 2 CRV hybrid models? That's incorrect You didn't mention Sport or Sport L. And who cares about how many when you can add features you want onto the Sport. Around 40k.
Being so popular, the RAV4 makes me feel like I already live in autonomous taxi world. Toyota needs to evolve this car a little quicker so we don't see ourself every drive. It gets boring.
* RAV4 Hybrid is the best hybrid power train (fuel efficiency, hp, towing capacity, spare tire, and 10 year warranty ), but dealers in Canada are selling it for C$ 7 - 10k over MSRP which would erode all these benefits * CR-V hybrid is the second most perfect power train which’s smoother and quieter too. - CR-V body is more spacious, more modern and quieter too. - CR-V hybrid is easier to get with less market adjustment which would make it the winner 🏆 based on today’s circumstances
Wrong! ..you have that backwards. An ECVT transmission which includes a ‘real 1st gear’ planetary gear set, is a Toyota innovation & between these 2 models, is only available on a Rav4. The Honda CRV comes with a ‘CVT’ transmission which is vastly different than an ‘ECVT’. Honda uses a drive belt between 2 conical pullys, for lack of better words. Honda’s CVT transmission does well enough when the their CRV is all ready in motion at cruizing speeds ..but, without a planetary 1st gear set ..puts its CVT drive belt under a good bit of stress when initially moving the car into motion from a dead stop.
@@raynetrunner2868 Yes CR-V “gas” has a typical “CVT” transmission, but CR-V “hybrid” has “eCVT” transmission which’s a completely different technology for the Honda hybrid power train. Although both of the RAV4 hybrid & CR-V hybrid have eCVT transmission, but they are both completely different designs between both brands
Let’s not forget about the CRV’s transmission. Essentially ..a belt between 2 pullys. Maybe OK at cruizing speeds, but each time off the line, from a dead stop, a h u g e wear factor on their belt. The Rav4 solves tthat wear factor with a planetary 1st gear section ..pretty much like the gear section you’d have with a full geared automatic transmission. Yes, Honda dealers understandably have rows of CRVs for sale. Like another poster said: “the CRV is a no brainer” It just depends on what “no brainer” really means?
Let's actually understand the CR-V's transaxle (it isn't really a transmission) before putting our foot in our mouth. No belt. No pulleys. No planetary gear systems. Most of the time, the transmission process is accomplished entirely with electrons. They don't wear. But for cruising on the highway, there are two clutches that can engage a direct-drive (as in one physical gear each) overdrive. The clutches only engage when rpm are matched by computer. They don't wear. And to show how reliable they are, Toyota has more clutch failures (there is a permanently-applied clutch built into the flywheel) than Honda.
Im not sure you if you guys know about it,,,....... Toyota Electric driven rear axle? Can anyone tell me what's on a honda crv rear axle? And what maintenance honda has in place for it? Not just that, toyota dual port injection vs honda direct injection? We can go for more!
How big are the gas tanks?the bigger the better yet Toyota made the Corolla cross with a much smaller gas tank what’s the point of a hybrid with a smaller tank😩
I didn't understand why more options would be that important. Also, the crv has 3 options in the US. But that's splitting hairs. I hate that the CRV doesn't have a spare tire. However, the leg room in the back seat of the CRV is way better than the Toyota. It is ultimately what will make it so I can't buy a toyota again 😢
Hey ..just look at any CURRENT New York City (You Tube) street tour. Currently ..1,000’s of yellow Rav4 taxi’s no CRV’s. The CRV’s 2 pully belt transmission wouldn’t last 2 months in NYC 1,000’s of taxi guys (& gals) can’t all be wrong?
Hey, just look at actual sales figures. According to Green Car Congress, in 2023 Honda sold 197,317 CR-Vs, Toyota sold 161,125 RAV4s. And at the corporate level, Honda refuses to do fleet (i.e., taxis) sales. They depress the resale value for their customers.
No way ..there’s isn’t a car brand anywhere that would “refuse to sell” 10’s of thousands of (taxi) vehicles worldwide. Not Honda not Toyota not anyone. Honda’s fear of course would be exposing their “rubber belt across pullys transmissions” to the rigors of daily stop & go commercial use. So in one way you’re correct. CRV’s used in a commercial environment, would not provide the best exposure for their brand. Most taxi ‘companys’ are now gone. The taxi owners are most commonly ‘owner-operators’ who as ‘individuals’, can buy any brand they’d like, even Hondas ..but they don’t.
Again ..just watch any ‘CURRENT’ New York City street tour on You Tube. You’ll be looking at a sea of yellow Toyota Rav4 taxis. They’re what owner-operators depend on for their bread & butter. An earlier post suggested that “Honda Coprorate” will not sell CRV’s to fleet operators because ‘for some reason’ they’re afraid that commercial use would pull CRV resales down? Really? Why is that? Most taxis go to the crusher when their service days are over anyway. Does the nearly exclusive use of Rav4s for taxis somehow pull down dealer resale results of used Ravs? In part ..seeing all the ‘yellow’ Ravs out there is even more reason to choose one. All those operators can’t be wrong.
@raynetrunner2868 "No way..." Way. Just look it up, it's widely documented. Oh, wait. You don't believe in actual facts. You just rely on your own misinformed opinions.
There’s a different set of facts and figures everywhere you look. If surveys & numbers were so telling ..we’d have a different president coming down the line. But, reality is in our face every day. Over 1,800 NYC Rav taxis ..the livelyhood of owner operators that depend on them for their success. Around town ..are CRVs seen in commercial environments ..not in my area. Does Avis or Hertz buy CRV’s, Yea they’ve tried a few. Can you readily buy a CRV? Of course you can, the 2 Honda dealers in my area each have rows of them. CRV is a good vehicle ..but honestly, most here know we’re beating a dead horse trying to compare these two. We can always find some survey or numbers ..attempting to make a point ..Kamala did. I understand those of you standing by your product ..

Although both of the RAV4 hybrid & CR-V hybrid have eCVT transmission, but they are both completely different designs between both brands
Torn between the Rv4 limited hybrid and hyundia tucson hybrid.
Toyota is a smarter buy but there are 2 major problems. Markups and you can’t get one. Some people simply can’t wait 2 years for transportation.
Like another poster said: “the CRV is a no brainer”
It just depends on what
“no brainer” really means?
Hii just wnan quick question 2025 Toyota rav4 Xse tech come
With tpms sensor base model doesnt have tire pressure montering system
Im not sure you if you guys know about it,,,.......
Toyota Electric driven rear axle? Can anyone tell me what's on a honda crv rear axle? And what maintenance honda has in place for it?
Not just that, toyota dual port injection vs honda direct injection?
We can go for more!
How big are the gas tanks?the bigger the better yet Toyota made the Corolla cross with a much smaller gas tank what’s the point of a hybrid with a smaller tank😩
I want a $20,000 Barebones package.
Had a CRV now got the Rav 4. The crv was great, the rav is better.
Honda is not the benchmark. Toyota is. This guy is full of it.
More Toyotas than Hondas near me .
I guess it varies ?
How long does hybrid battery last?
CRV has better road handling. I heard. 😮
Interest rates are lower on hondas
Hey ..just look at any CURRENT New York City (You Tube) street tour.
Currently ..1,000’s of yellow Rav4 taxi’s
no CRV’s.
The CRV’s 2 pully belt transmission wouldn’t last 2 months in NYC
1,000’s of taxi guys (& gals) can’t all be wrong?
The taxi owners are most commonly ‘owner-operators’ who as ‘individuals’, can buy any
brand they’d like, even Hondas ..but they don’t.
Again ..just watch any ‘CURRENT’ New York City street tour on
You Tube.
You’ll be looking at a sea of yellow Toyota Rav4 taxis.
They’re what
owner-operators depend on for their bread & butter.
@raynetrunner2868 "No way..."
Way.
Dammit......wasted time.....don't care about Canada.....I'm looking for Rav4s in the U.S.
Ridiculous prices $$$😅
Honda is overpriced
toyotas for life
1. rav 4 has been more reliable than the crvs
2.crvs are getting stolen more than rav 4
3.crv is way more expensive than the rav
4.rav 4 comes with more features
5.rav 4 beats crv in gas
6. Toyota’s while great cars, they’re as boring AF inside 🎉
Honda's fake shifting is annoying.
Waiting 1-1.5yr to get the RAV4 hybrid here in Cda is annoying!😂
I like the RAV Hybrid, the shape! 👍👍
