"Weird Al" Yankovic - "Pac-Man"

- A very obviously fan-made video for "Pac-Man," a rare song by "Weird Al" Yankovic (parody of "Taxman" by The Beatles). Could've been a lot worse if I didn't have Photoshop or Imageready... but it doesn't matter. The reason I made this was to let the good people listen to the song.

This song is actually way smarter than I had originally thought. It takes a song that George Harrison wrote about how he was basically making no money thanks to the completely outrageous tax rates he and the other three Beatles found themselves paying and turns it on its ear, rewriting it about the then very timely theme of just how much money people were wasting on this game (which just so happens to have a title that rhymes with the song) which became a nationwide phenomenon seemingly overnight.
I guess what I'm really trying to say here is that both songs are about losing enormous amounts of money for seemingly no reason. With Taxman, it's about losing money thanks to ridiculous tax rates, and in Pac-Man, Al takes that concept to its logical extreme by having all that money go towards something that you get absolutely nothing out of, and uses that for comedic effect.
Or am I reading into this too deeply?
John Eisenmann I want to see Al do a parody of the Spinners' Cupid and call it Q-Bert.
+John Eisenmann i think you over think, over analyze, and overstate.
Nope. Not deep enough
Most people might think you’re looking to deep into its meaning, but the irony of that logic is still very humorous.
I'm a Beatles fan and I absolutely love this.
+SengKiat93 me too
I'm an al fan and I love this... also a Beatles fan
Why would you feel the need to clarify that you're a fan before saying you love the song? What's the point?
Don't need to be a Beatles fan to enjoy this song
This. This is the best thing. This is the best thing ever.
My life is complete now.
This definately needs to be on an official AL released CD. This is AWESOME.
He REALLY needs to release an album with all of his unreleased songs! It would be like a 3 disc set!
It's now judgment Day
The guitar solo into the Pac-Man, "act theme" is amazing
Did you send your mom a virus at 1:44?
if you should get an email with the subject stinky cheese...
A lot of Al's early songs, recorded in college, WERE unreleased but DID get Dr. Demento airplay. As such, they were also archived and released on the Dr. Demento Basement Tapes. Al has said previously in an Ask Al that "if you're a hardcore enough Weird Al fan to find them, keep them to see how awful I sounded back then".
Isn't it ironic that a whole 11 years later Al released this song in the exact same quality of his Vevo?
This, and "Still Billy Joel to Me," have never been released on a Weird Al CD, and it's a shame. Heard this in '82 on Dr. Demento, during my first semester of college.
@BirdPerson - thanks for posting this - I'd never heard it, and I listen/watch a LOT of Weird Al.
Thank you a lot for putting this sogn here on UA-cam. If no one did, it would be much harder to find it and listen to it. I love this song.
I actually had this idea a few days ago and was curious to see if anyone else had that idea, but I got a big slap in the face when I searched on my Roku and found this video.
"Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes No. 4"
i like how at the start it does the 1,2,3,4, thing that was on revolver
I love the "Virus Alert" reference at 1:50 !
Billchicken I noticed that right away i was LOL'ing IRL so hard
This is great - never heard this one before .. Weird Al is always a genius with his parodies .. great video, too!
i cant get enough of this song!!!!
THIS IS AWSOME!
I hadn't realized this even existed till radioclash played it.
one of the greatest songs ive heard
OMG!!! I havent heard this song in a looooong time, thanks for uploading this song and making it a fan-made video. Pacman shouldve been released on first album.
Wow, a beatles parody! The combination of weird al and the beatles is unstoppable!
I just listend to Taxman, and he does a pretty good job sounding like them!
Thanks for uploading the video, because since it doesn't have an official music video, and it wasn't part of any of Weird Al's official records, this is a very difficult file to obtain . Congratulations!
wow. this song JUST came out on the vevo channel....
Wow, never heard this one before! Thanks!
Excellent!
This is art!!
There are a lot of Weird Al's songs that didn't make it to his albums. "It's Still Billy Joel to Me", "Beverly Hillbillies/Miss You", "Won't Eat Prunes Again", this one, and others.
Great job...Gotta love the "classics"...
This IS very rare. This is the first time i ever heard it.
I actually like the fan made video. And thanks for the song!
I love how he even starts oh with the count one two three four one two! :P With the British accent and everything!
The Beatles rock!
and I love Weird Al!
This song is hilarious! (:
it is done by Weird Al. It is a song that was not published in any of his records/CDs. It was only aired on Radio.
I don't think you can end it by winning, only by dying.
When the guy in the helmet is playing, Joe Strummer be watching!
how can you mistake that great singing voice for somebody else's!?!? Of course this is Weird Al!!! And this song rules!
weird al ALWAYS gets permission even though under parody laws he doesn't have to. most artists are flattered the weird al wants to do a parody of their song
great parody of taxman! and good video.
this is great memories!!
so good!
LOL this is hilarious. First time heard this. Always with the funnies eh. :D
Great job! :-)
great video! very well put together, 5 stars
Awesome find.. I cant remember this song, but it is TRUELY Weird AL...... SWEET.
This song is...AWESOME!
First game i ever played.....Me and my husband have a plug and play pac-man and we are always trying to beat each others scores...... PAC-MAN LOVE IT
Hahaha, I'd never heard this before. Thank you. ;D
Sending the mail to "My Mother" makes me think of Craigslist.
HAPPY 30TH PAC-MAN!
I love the Beatles, but this is still very funny!!
That's an awesome parody Weird Al did of the Beatles!
Wow I totally thought I'd heard every weird al song ever made.
AWESOME!!!!!!
that pac-man guitar is sick
Even Olivia and Dhani Harrison gave their blessing
It's Still Billy Joel to Me was another good rare song... Born to Be Mild too
It's on one of his old Cassettes, it's a parody of Tax Man, by The Beatles, so this is 60s.
LOVE the subject of the email to his mother! LOL! (Yes, I get the reference, that's why I love it.)
LOL, the subject Al "sends" his "mom" reads: Stinky Cheese. LOL
Dont be a party pooper, fucking embrace it man !!!
I knew that before even listening to the song, because i read the description.
@Stanners01 It just began as a coincedence that 27 just showed up in a couple of his early videos, and now he just includes it in most of his new stuff.
Very well done. The text on inserting coins, was very funny, you did a good song, parodying a great song justice with your video.
@iwantmypierigtnow
Because most (if not all) Weird Al songs are parodies of songs by other people, I was wondering what song this was based on and who sang it. Thank you very much for enlightening me!
happy b-day mr.pacman
Magic.
awsome!
yes at the same time...you couldn't hurt each other...team work to clear the stage
Who knew the Pac Man theme fit so well with Taxman? I wonder if that was deliberate?
wish this was on cd really fun song
Good for being fan-made
Nice job!
surprisingly good
Wow...I'm a big Weird Al fan, and I've never heard this (Or even heard of this). I never saw it on any of his early albums either.
Very not bad :) Yeah, it's clear the production value was low, but it fit the subject well and the visuals managed to hold interest throughout. All things considered: Well done.
You can tell by the voice, it's definitely him.
Good video!
if u pay attention the title of the e-mail (which is stinky cheese) and if u listen to the song virus alert it is saying don't open a e-mail titled stinky cheese
That is true. I remember reading that in this book I have.
Anyone else notice that the E-mail subject was Stinky Cheese? That's the subject from Virus Alert that shows the E-mail has a virus.
perhaps it's distorted because this song has never been released on CD and thus the only way to get it would be somehow obtaining a live recording or a basement tape of Dr. Demento?
I didn't care much for the video, but the parody is clever and catchy! And I enjoyed the sped up tempo. Go Weird Al!
Oh, my lord! TAXMAN! This is great!! Ah!
There are a handful of songs he's never released; It's Still Billy Joel to Me (parody of It's Still Rock and Roll to Me), Chicken Pot Pie (Live and Let Die), and a few others maybe he didn't think the songs were good enough, or in some cases, the artist said no to the parody. Sometimes, Dr. Demento releases them from to subscribed fans of his radio show.
Actually it said "If you should get an email with the subject Stinky Cheese, please don't go taking your chances, under no circumstances should you open it or else it will..."
There's "Gee I'm a Nerd" which is a parody of "Free as a Bird" the John Lennon song that the rest of the beatles finished, it was never recorded.
There's also "Chicken pot pie" parody of the Paul McCartney song "Live and Let Die" similarly not recorded.
The closest to a Beatles song that was recorded and added to an album was "This Song is just Six Words Long" parodying the George harrison song "I've got my mind set on you."
The Weird One does it again! I love it!
Subject: Stinky Cheese
DON'T OPEN!!!
lol good fan made video
I love the original of the song, and I love this even more!
wow, that Pac-Man guitar looks cool
I love it.
taxman is one of my favourite beatles songs. and i love pac man. so this made me smile.
@blessedbeJesus: He's the undisputed king. For 30 years. And he'll never be dethroned.
This was a demo which never received permission for album use.
Cool PacMan guitar, BirdPerson...
hahaha, "Virus Alert," yeah that was a nice touch.
this was a good vid to compliment a great song
the real song of this, "taxman" by the beatles...its amazing
Haha....I want that Pac Man guitar!!
