My favorite story about Pac-Man was the arcade company was getting complaints that the machines were malfunctioning early on. Turns out that it was jammed full of quarters!
I can remember having pacman spagettios.I never got any of the hand held games, but I drooled over them in the Sears catalog
Pac-Man was originally called "Puck-Man," but clever and drunk people in arcades and bars would take markers or even pocket knives and turn the "P" into an "F." So NAMCO decided to change the name.
No, this is a urban myth. There where never any 'Puck man' Arcade Machines produced. It was only know as Puck man during development. The name got changed after Namco showed a prototype of the game to Midway who suggested they changed the name after pointing out this could potentially happen.
I have both seasons of the Pac-Man cartoon on DVD. They're probably my favorite collectables and I make it a point to watch the Pac-Man Christmas special every year.
I used to have a couple of those tabletop games...Astro Wars, Zaxxon, Firefox and Pac Man..sold them for a bit of cash..I have seen that book in the store..what the...cheers Junkman 🍺🍺🍻
I loved the Pac man board game & I still have the wind up toy & creepy puppet. :) I also had the Pac man TV tray. Great video.
I love my Pac-Man drinking glasses!
Yeah, the 80’s was the “Golden Age” of arcade games. We forget that. Loved having some buck to blow in an arcade.
Cool vid’ Junk’, you’re on a roll in recent weeks bruv. We’ll done. Junkman forever! 😊
Lmao!! The guy dressed up in the pacman costume was the funniest!! 🤣🤣🤣..
Great video! I had many of the items you highlighted, including the watch, color forms, the sheets, and even the lunchbox. Loved that game on the Atari and couldn't get enough of the stuff as a kid!
I love Pac Man I rember taking 50$ in quarters to this Italian restaurant and getting the hi score on that cabinet
I still have my Pac-Man windup toy and drinking glass. Damn I miss the 80s. I don't think I've ever tried to put my balls in it. Well maybe in the 90s but that was the 90s I don't count. It was a crazy time
I got the Coleco Tabletop Pac-Man in ‘83 for Christmas.I don’t remember many of the Pac-Man School Supplies,Toys,I remember the Pac-Man Board Game,Tomy Pac-Man,& Lunch Box.The Pac-Man watch I also would wear like yourself.
I ❤️ going down memory lane.Thank U for all your hard work doing this awesome Video!
that pac man chef boyardee slop actually had a “game” to it, like all the old boyardee pastas: get 3 pac man noodles or 3 ghost noodles in one spoonful, and you “win”
note: i was fortunate enough to be born long after they made pac man pasta, i just remember the game part from the old nostalgia critic commercial specials.
I had one of those Mini arcades when I was a kid in the 80s a hand me down from my older brother. It WAS pacman. I played with that damn thing till it. Now I have the PACMAN app.
I still listen to Buckner and Garcia's Pac-Man Fever album.
You the best old school toy guy on UA-cam. Damn you bring back the memories I thought I’d never see again. Especially that pocket super heroes video
I, like most kids that grew up in the 80s, enjoyed pac man. I had a cousin in Bama that had the table top version of the arcade game. He had a small game room in his house with pin ball and a arcade pac man. Lost it all in a fire. I came across a yellow ball looking thing that had eyes and teeth I had no idea what it was until I viewed this video and saw the same item in Gabriel packaging. I thought it may have been a pac man. This video just confirmed it. The item is both stupid and creepy but I love it. Thanks
I wish pacman was huge today as he was back then
I have the Pac-Man puppet on my dresser as I was watching this video at 2:46 in the morning. Thanks a lot now I just remembered that I have some deformed Pac-Man staring at me the whole night.
Mine isn’t as creepy though, because I put a PAC-MAN hat on it to make it look cooler lol
When I was a kid, we used to get all kinds of free balloons from my aunt from Florida. I suppose she worked in a balloon factory, because she sent us balloons a lot. They had Pac-Man, Mickey Mouse, and Smurfs on them. I also had a Pac-Man t-shirt, school folder, pencils, and I think I had Pac-Man gloves. I also remember enjoying the cereal and watching the cartoon on Saturday mornings.
I'm almost as crazy as that guy in the clips. Incidentally, I'm wearing a Pac-Man T-shirt and Pac-Man boxer shorts today. I had the wind-up toy, the squeeze toy with the weird teeth, the board game, lunch box, SLEEPING BAG (you missed that one!), and I still have that steel ball pachinko game in my car! My daughter used to play with it in the backseat... until my wife got a smartphone.
I had the watch and played it in school too! I had the non joystick one.
That's a cool background because it fits the subject of your video. I like it!
I still have that Tomytronic Round Pac Man game. We got it for like 30$ back in the 80s, my brother would burn through the batteries in a few hours and it would start to glitch when it got to hot, he even had nightmares where he would yell out "GET THE CHERRY!! GET THE CHERRY!!"
Fun Fact: The theme song from the Hanna-Barbera cartoon is what Pac Land’s main theme is based on.
This was one of my favorite video game based cartoons that I saw reruns of along with Super Mario Bros. Super Show and the Legend of Zelda. I own the Pac-Man series on DVD too.
If you're playing Pac Man you must have Pac Man Fever.
I wasn't one to run to play Pac-Man in the arcade, but I had some Pac-Man stuff. I had a food tray, a sleeping bag, and I might have gotten a Pac-Man board game. I need to look at the photo albums.
I didn't play board games much at that time because I didn't have siblings at the time and there weren't kids running around all over the neighborhood.
In recent years, I bought a newer hand-held Pac-Man game as well as a Pac-Man shaped controller that hooks up to the TV for playing Pac-Man, as well as Dig Dug, Galaga and some other games.
I had the Coleco Table Top Game and I Loved it played it for hours and hours . My uncle and his friends would torment me they would be watching me play and getting right into it and just as I would be ready to break my top score, they would flip the circuit breaker off and on quick so I would lose power on the game and get pissed right off slap the game punch my self and they would hide around the corner and laugh, without me knowing they were doing it. I took like two or three back to the stores for exchanges because of it losing power and then weeks later they finally told me what they were doing. Man I was pissed off at them. But it was a fun game. Had many sore fingers and thumbs and bruises and calluses from playing so long, but it was worth every second of it.
That Pac Man bank at the end reminds me more of HR Pufnstuf, rather than Pac Man
Yes the wah wah wah sounded just like pac man!! PAC Man Fever driving me crazy!! It was so fun back in da day!!
I had that small arcade looking game. I never saw it in stores as well. But I didn't buy it, no one bought it for me. It was given to me. My dad was helping his brother clean out this old house that was located at the back of their mom's property. I don't even know who was renting that place out but they left everything behind. So my dad and my uncle started to clean it out. I went in and sat down on an old dusty couch. there were tons of boxes stacked everywhere. Then I noticed inside one of these boxes was that pac man game. it had batteries in it and I just started to play with it. there was also the Galaga version as well. after playing with them my uncle just gave them to me. otherwise he would have just thrown them in the trash. my brother and I constantly played with them. then one day they just vanished. years later, many many years later, my dad was cleaning out the storage room out in our backyard and he found them inside. the batteries in both had bursted. so after some cleaning, and some new batteries, they worked again. but they once again disappeared. I always suspected they were stolen by some kids we used to hang out with back then.
You guys are just jealous of my complete collection of pong action figures. Yes even the rare Brazilian and South American variants
My sister and I had all the pvc figures between us.
That's awesome junkman
I think with that Pac-Man board game, you could also teabag Pac-Man.
The Pac-Man bank looked like that game Mr. Mouth
Casio pocket Game. Classic stuff Junkman.
The little “Pac-Man Plinko” was part of a line from Tomy called “Tomy Pocket Games”. Along with that one, I remember having a shooting gallery, baseball, and magnetic race car game that were also really cool in a pre-Nintendo/too-poor-for-Atari youth.
Do you remember K.C. Munchkin for Odyssey? It was their answer to PAC Man. My parents never got me the Atari, just Magnovox. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the same? You could create your own mazes and I would enclose all the monsters and get all the points. Oh the good ole days.
I got a Pac-Man light thing from Five Below last week and it looks awesome next to my mini-pacman arcade cabinets.
I had that Big Wheel! I definitely remember the board game. Not sure if I had it or someone else.
Yes! I enjoyed playing Pac-man @ the arcade, back in the day.We had that wind up Pac-man toy, but don't know what happened to it.Walgreens has the portal Pac-man game I've seen on the shelves recently.
Pac-Man Merch we had back then: The Coleco Arcade toy, The Pac-Man wrist watch, the Mastering Pac-Man book, the Colorforms, The Tomy Windup toy, The board game.
Not featured here: a Pac-Man Halloween costume.
I thought I dreamed the Pac-Man windup toys. A family friend had them when I was a little baby.
Lol I had that round yellow Pac-Man game memories lol
I still have my wind-up Pac-Man, surprisingly the eyes are still on the ghost
If the Pac-man Big Wheel is without a CB microphone we ain't talkin!
I used to have the first Pac-Man electronic game you presented in this video, and I definitely wanted the arcade looking one, but sadly, never got it. OTOH, my cousin's parents got him actual arcade tabletop video games of Pac-Man and Galaxian. Lucky bastich!
Back on the cabinet-looking LED games... they actually made a few arcade-styled electronic games, which included...IIRC... Donkey Kong, Centipede, and Zaxxon.
But yeah, Pac-Man and a few other arcade blockbusters found their way into so many different electronic game formats...including digital watches.
Nowadays, you can get the arcade experience on Keychain sized video game cabinet replicas. Not LED lights, but actual video game arcade play. (Emulators, I'm sure) We would have killed to have these back in the 80s.... and our teachers probably would've wanted to kill us for having them. Lol!
Thanks for sharing this video. May the Force Be With You and Yours, JunkMan.
I had a sleeping bag & maybe a record book. An app game came out a few years ago, Pac Man 256. Same general concept but it was a neverending screen with bonus power ups. Fun.
The Colecovision was the best way to play Pac Man at home.
I bought a vat of pencils one time..80s.the erasers were so dried out,but in that were some pencils
13:50 Don't worry JM, I've done enough for the both of us 🤪
Pac man candy with a maze to shake the candy from a starting position through to were the ghost monsters come from.
they missed an opportunity to call it Pac-aroni & Cheese
Yeah, I had both table tops, Pac-man and Ms. Pac-man as well as the board game. I had got them all rummaging through garage sales with my grandparents in the mid 80’s. I remember that was the first time I heard about alkaline batteries since the table tops used them. They were okay for the time. I didn’t have anybody to play the board game with me either since my sisters weren’t born yet. My parents would play once In while with me. But pretty much played the game by myself. Yeah, before Mario, Pac-Man was king👑
I have that Coleco game on my desk. I still use it to contact the Kremlin.
I still got the pac man fever. Not as bad as the mullet creep!
My brother had that push-button Pac-Man watch. He used to charge the other kids at school 10 cents a game to play (until a teacher caught him and called our mom).
We Have the pacman board game.. still play it. Junk ya da man.. 😉
I had the Tomytronic Pac-Man game. It was awesome, and in my opinion, superior to the Coleco version. I remember it being great fun to play
I still have the Pac Man table arcade game, box n all.
Gawd! The Pac-man and Mrs Pac-man puppets are hella creepy. The only Big Wheels my brother and I had was the Dukes of Hazzard version.I'd pass on that Pac-man one.
@That Junkman I have actually had a few ''Acid Trips'' in my life, but I barely remember them. You are 100% correct! ''Pac Man'' was the first (Video Game Superstar). What a lot of people don't know is that when ''Donkey Kong'' was first released in 1981. ''Mario'' was a (Carpenter named Jumpman). The first ''Mario Bros'' game would not be released for another 2 years. Although the character would be renamed in console versions of ''Donkey Kong'' and in its sequel ''Donkey Kong Jr''. Oh, do you know that the ''Pac Man board game'' from the early 1980s has been reissued? I saw one in a ''Taget'' the other day.
I had the wind-up Pac-Man toy with a wind-up ghost.
I had most of that stuff except for the big wheel
I had the wind up toy. I did have plushies you won at the fair and rubber wire toys and im sure other things.
The Saturday morning Pac-Man cartoon was my all time favorite. I always wanted action figures that were similar to the cartoon. After years of searching, I discovered that a company called Fiba in Italy made some rubber figures that are the closest thing to the cartoon. I had to have them! They are pretty rare in the states but I have my set of Pac-Man and Pepper! Maybe you can do a quick nooner or have me as a guest to talk about these guys lol! Check out the link.
I had that pacman colorform set.
There's a reason those Tomy Pac-Man toys look weird. Tomy had Pac-Man toys years before Namco's Pac-Man video game. The Pac-Man bank was their first toy (which as you showed, came in various colors, including yellow). A slightly later version looks like the yellow one you showed. If you've seen the Mr. Mouth game from the 1970s, you'll notice it looks just like that Pac-Man bank. It was called the Pac-Man game in Japan, and was based on that bank. Tomy and Namco came to some kind of arrangement instead of suing each other, so that is why Tomy was selling products based on the video game. But their Pac-Man logo isn't completely round and has a flat bottom, which is what the bank looked like.
Modern Namco now claims Pac-Man was based on a pizza with a slice removed. And (unrelated to Tomy) is removing Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Baby from rereleases of their video games (e.g., Pac-Man World) like they were Nikolai Yezhov in a photo with Stalin.
ate me some Pac Man cereal - yummy
Hey Junkman. Just wanted to say really enjoying all things Pac-Man related. But I’m just curious where did you get the clips of that Super Diehard Pac-Man fan from? I’ve think seen from somewhere before but I can’t quite place it.
I played Pac Man on the BBC computer
I had pac mania too..s I meshing about pac man on a motorcycle .leader of the pac
Played it on the ATARI😜🇳🇱
I have a pac man puppet
16:12 - That looks more like the Mr. Mouth game head than Pac Man. Hey, wasn't Mr Mouth game more or less a Pac Man rip-off?
5:23 🤨🤨
My mom will not buy me pac man toys 😢
That guy has a girlfriend, I have to see the full video.
Pac Man was overrated! I liked Asteroids better.
What is this cheap, mid 2010s looking channel? 😆
If you wanted a Pac-Man LAMPSHADE in the '80s, you'd probably find one, somewhere!
I am genuinely impressed how he keeps on finding interesting topics to make cocernig vintage toys every single day.
Absolutely!
That Junk Man is the bomb!!!
