- In order to maintain balance in your swing, you have to be sure your setup is balanced and that you're not reaching for the ball when you hit it.
Here's a quick tip to be sure you're the right distance from the ball.
Don't just play golf. Understand it.

Simplifying the game of golf, Mike does it better than most out there.
Simple. Straightforward. Correct. And this will cure so many other problems people have. If you start with a bad set-up, your body will always be compensating, creating faults from there out. Thanks Mike.
OMG! I've been falling forward for 30 years & still do every so often This will be my setup for the next 30! Thanks Mike!
Nailed me. Sir have you thought about teaching golf for a living…. Lol great video.. the second post important thing in golf is setup…..first is grip… nailed it
Awesome and that is what I need. Thanks Mike!
Mike: I lost my golf swing for years trying the stack and tilt swing, one plane swing, etc, etc. Then started watching you and strengthened my left hand, used the throwing motion with the right as in your video lesson teaching how to stop rotation and just pretended I was swing at the ball to hit now I'm hitting everything 10-15 yards further and more often than not flusher and straighter with almost no effort as you said you can. Basically I and a lot of people have over complicated the instinctive golf swing we know how to do. Thanks for all the great simplified youtube lessons. Great instruction!!
Love the hips tip! Really helps get the right balance over the ball
This guy is flat out fantastic!!
Another great video Mike about about set up and distance I will put that down in in my book just want to let you know ever since I've been watching you on UA-cam for a while now with your different tips different drills the way the swing should be swung yes that's how you want to say it but I just want to say another great video and I appreciate it this is Jimmy Neiman coming from Crossville Tennessee I was it was a 19 handicapper I got it down to with 13.4 and again thanks again Mike...
Thanks, I was just discussing this issue. In my thoughts, it was about posture and engaging the knee bend to help set the distance, but I like your way of setting the clubface in and then adjust, and it should help with a pre-shot routine that is easily repeatable.
Applied the whole routine ( setup and throwing the club head ) to my game yesterday for every club in the bag, and had my best ball striking game for at least 10 years. Have tried many of your tips with limited success, but this one worked a treat. Now just need to get more confidence with my short game & putting.
I've never understood before setting up with a down-cocked wrist. I think because my wrist isn't that flexible in the downward direction. But at least now, it makes sense to me. Thanks Mr. M.
I started taking lessons about three months ago, and my swing has improved dramatically. We worked on swing path, club impact, tempo, mobility, etc... and I improved. However, my accuracy wasn't really where I wanted it to be.
I tried this trick today and my accuracy went from 5 out of 10 to about 8 out of 10. The ball seemed to carry further and I even had a little bit of a draw. It was amazing. At least in my irons. My driver still needs work.
Great lesson!!
That was Great!! Ty Mike
Cool tip,thanks.
Thanks, that's a nice easy technique to try out next time
Excellent preshot routine
Great tip
Interesting...thats the first time I've ever heard anybody talking about letting the club extend out, before address. II wiil try this out...
That all i need. Set up right left wrist then line then left hip space to move when downswing, that all balance i understand from your setup routine.
Hello mr. Malaska, thanks for this great explication. Just started with the woods and this was exactly what i needed. I am expecting this works the same for a hybrid, a new club for me which I cannot get used to.
Used this with my Hybrid and 5 Wood, both clubs I could never get used to. After this tip, I’ve never hit so many proper shots with those clubs! This tip is gold.
@@adam_matthews thanks, will do so next time out.
Love this. I think I am keeping to much angle in my wrist instead of letting the club drop. Can’t wait to try!
Did it work?
When do you feel "the throw" of the club head starting in your downswing?
Hello mike, what do you think about doing a swing behind the ball using the g force and see where it touches the ground naturally then move all the body, arm block from this spot?
just plain simple instruction as usual
Thank you for refuting the weight over the balls of feet nonsense!
That's just not practical. I've seen better videos that explain in a better way.
