  • This 2003 Jeep Liberty was a break down and drove in during a normal busy work day. Customer complaint was simply , overheating. I looked at it verified the problem and confirmed the fix. Enjoy!

A "technician" (because you are way past being called a mechanic), who looks up torque values and uses a torque wrench to tighten down bolts to spec. You sir have earned all my respect.

$65.00 Per Hour, $125.00 if the customer watches, $200.00 per hour if customer helps, that's the way I charge.

The secret is out: for faster service, customers should sit in the bay during the repair.

Generally I don't like distraction while working on anything, especially cars. There was an old mechanic that could not physically do his own car repair so I did the repairs for him. He would sit on a stool in my shop and watch without saying much, but when I was having a problem he would casually suggest I might try doing this or that. I learned a lot from that old mechanic and enjoyed his company besides.

I hate when customers watch me work. Im an honest mechanic but it just annoys me. My old boss used to make customers put on safety goggles and a rubber smock if they wanted to come into shop. Unless if it was just for a minute to see defective part or get something from their car. Even then they would have to wear safety glasses. My old boss once had to pay for a customers suit because he got splashed by trans fluid from trans pan being dropped in next work bay. My older brother once told our neighbor who wanted to watch him fix his car at home something funny. He told him if he watched and learned how to fix his car it would be $120 an hour if he would let him fix it alone it was $60 an hour. Neighbor when home till job was finished:)

That was the quickest water-pump replacement I've ever seen! Such a pleasure to watch you work.

Great video, as usual. When I was a kid in the 60's my Dad and I were always fixin stuff, and he hated " that plastic crap" and now it's everywhere we look and especially where we don't , or can't.

I ABSOLUTELY love your videos. I grew up without a father and had to learn everything on my own workin on cars with a chiltons manual. I wish I would have had a dad like you! Keep up the good work Eric!!

Good morning Eric, I have to give credit to Jeep for designing easy access to components including alternator, compressor and water pump. Since this vehicle is rear drive, other major components repair also easily accessible. As a kid growing up in the 60-70s, many of us were able to fix our own cars because they were rear wheel drive. Granted, pre-emissions, also added more maintenance, including spark plus every 15k, point , condenser , fuel filter, etc. Thank you for taking the time to produce your videos.

That was a lucky customer. If I lived anywhere near SMA I would bring all my vehicles in for service and ask to watch. You seem like a great guy and an even better mechanic.

Thanks Eric. You diagnosed my problem and showed me how to fix it. Of course, it's January so I have the pleasure of working on it in the driveway in the cold.

Every time you hit the water pump pulling it made a ding sound and it was the exact sound the bell made at the service station I worked at in the late 60s. There was a hose in the driveway that would make the bell ring when a customer drove up. Thanks for posting these videos.
