I know!!! And it’s clear that universal is listening. Example, dark world. How many times have fans and even imagineers begged Disney to do a land dedicated for the villains? Many times and yet Disney ignored it. While yes Dark world is not a Disney villains land it is very similar to what we the fans have asked for, a dark land dedicated to dark and “villainous” characters which will appeal to a teenager/adult audience and even some kids as not everybody likes heroes all the time.
The answer is right at the opening "We went to the fans and asked them". Disney just does what it wants it seems and thinks the fans will jump on board. Now, I think Disney is in a mode of panic because all we are hearing is huge ideas that keep changing.
Re Potter: the story goes that JK was being guided through Suess land to the back of Islands of Adventure. Suess land intrigued her and she loved it. She then spoke to T Geisels wife, who talked about how dedicated Universal was in getting her husbands books to come to life. Besides the 150 foot Hogwarts Castle recreation, Universal agreed to many design restrictions and NO MAIN POTTER CHARACTERS walking around (which Disney couldn't even comprehend).
Having grown up as a Disneyland kid, I'm super excited for Epic Universe! I think it will be what Disney World was like 15 years ago and I can't wait to create those "magical" memories with my son🥰❤️
Yes! But also a bit more. It is kinda clear that Celestial park took inspiration from both the parks normally found in Japan (the concept of having a park (nature, trees, walkways, ect) that just happens to have rides in it. And the other inspiration is probably that fairytale theme park in Germany probably inspired this area of the park a bit in its layout. (The park in Germany is a forest park with walking paths, waterways and such that happens to have rides in it) It’s always a great idea to have an area like this because when you’re tired and just want to rest your feet or just get away from the crowds and have a look around you can go to that area… an area where you can sit by the shade and just cool down a bit when it gets too hot is always a great idea on my books. (I love this as my father, he loves theme parks, but sadly he gets overheated really quickly as he is sensitive to the heat even in winter, the last time we went to Epcot we had to leave as there was beraly any place to sit down, there also was beraly any shade or cool place to just recharge, it was bad)
My husband and I are literally going to ask one of the grandparents to watch our boys for a week cause they are too young to enjoy the universal studios right now and we are going to take 1 of our anniversary trips to this park when it opens within the first 5 years we are already saving

Playing the devil's advocate here for a sec. Disney's attractions were designed on the principal that families could ride together, that no member of the family unit felt forced to sit out, which is why they have never been focused on having as many thrill rides as those dark rides. This is where for years I have defended Disney, because anytime we went to Universal, the rides were just too fast for me, or made me sick with the simulations. BUT now, that has shifted! Where Universal FINALLY got a clue and addressed that I'd like to go on a fun ride with my grandkids, but you aren't paying me to get on that mega coaster LOL. but I do and would enjoy a "Family coaster", I like that Universal has provided a better balance for the family unit to enjoy together without me having to sit out on 90% of everything.
Epic Universe is well named. Epic was once associated with Disney but no longer. The only thing "epic" about Disney is the price. and this is from a 1980s WDW cast member here.
I get the imagineers statements didn’t age well but I was under the understanding Disney lost many of the good ones from that time by now anyway. It’s possible the people laughing in that room are now with us laughing at Disney in universals camp right?
Many of those imagineers who were white and male, or in 30s-50s, are no longer Disney imagineers and work elsewhere. It's well indirectly known that they contract out much of the design work; and keep lower wage and controllable young imagineers.
A lot of Imagineers who are laid off go to Universal. It's the same for any department at Disney: Entertainment, foods, attractions, security, facilities, etc. When Disney lets these Cast Members go, they often head to Universal for a job.
Universal is shying away from screens while most of Disney's newest rides use screens: Ratatouille, Cosmic Rewind, Flight of Passage, Millennium Falcon, etc
Are you sure about that? I was at Universal in California barely two months ago and each and every attraction featured a screen of some sort. I get that it’s easier to develop or update a ride experience down the road, but the result is a lifeless experience lacking in depth and realism. I’ll grant that maybe they are going a different route for their park in Florida, but if my recent California experience is anything to go by I’m going pass on flying across the country just to watch tv.

They are also building a Fast and Furious rollercoaster over there. Again like I said they might have many screen rides but those are not the newer rides they opened. Almost forgot and their Mario Kart ride has a mix of physical props, animatronics, some screens, and AR technology.
If Disney started today it would probably take 10 years just to get their parks in order and that doesn’t include adding something new. By that time Universal will be the king that the mouse can’t dethrone.

Super Nintendo World is the magic bullet to topple Disney. I’ve been to USH and it’s absolutely amazing. EPIC will have 2 additional rides that USH don’t have the room for. You can easily do a full day in this land. EPIC looks as large as EPCOT with more attractions. That’s the difference. Epcot had aging rides and lacking in ability to upgrade existing attractions. Disney given up on Magic Kingdom and don’t care to increase park capacity. That’s their downfall.

When I was a kid, Disney bored me to tears, even though I loved the movies. I preferred going to Sea World and Universal. As an adult, I would never think about paying the stupid amount of money Disney wants for just a one-day ticket. However, if Universal does this right, I am fully committed to saving up for a week-long trip to all of their properties in Orlando. As you said, there's something for everyone, and I never feel out of place when I'm there. The only thing that weirds me out is that the renderings of Celestial Park give off Scientology vibes. I think Disney is all hype no substance. I love Animal Kingdom but hate Avatar. It just doesn't belong. Beastly Kingdom could have been Disney's version of Dark Universe, bringing back a blast from the past, instead of IP'ing everything. Dark Universe is kind of an IP but not one specific movie franchise. Celestial Park has nothing to do with ANY IP but sure does remind me of the cancelled Disney Park land, Discoveryland. It has a very "steampunk in space" vibe to it. I guess that's what happens when you hire former imagineers to build Universal's Epic Universe. When they said Celestial Park is "a park within a theme park," I think this is a nod to Walt Disney who was inspired by Griffith Park in LA to build "a theme park within a park." I think the celestial carousel is also a nod to Disney who would take his daughters to the carousel ride at Griffith Park (I love the subtle nod to NBC with the peacock ride vehicle). Celestial Park feels more organic compared to Disney's current projects that all feel like hard plastic and plaster, like Avengers campus and Blah'tu. To me, the last great Disney Park land was Cars Land from ten years ago. It is more immersive and closely connected to its IP than Blah'tu will ever be. Keep up the great reporting! 👌🏻
Looks like a lot of fun. I was hoping their Nintendo park would branch out into some of Ninty's other successful franchises like Legend of Zelda, Metroid, or Pokemon but I guess I can settle for Donkey Kong.
Rumors going around is Zelda might take over the Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure and Pokemon to take over the simpsons area before 2030 but we’ll see if those rumors are true in the coming years. Fingers crossed!!

As a DVC family that goes to Disney world ever other year, we are planing on spending some time this year at universal… I think the last time we went was the opening of the Simpson ride 😅 so it’s been a long time. I’m more excited for universal than Disney in terms of rides. But Disney world is still my favorite place to just walk around. But the removal of free park hoping any time and having to schedule your entire trip, six months advance is BS. How do I know that I id want to go to animal Kingdom on a Monday morning if it’s gonna rain months in the past? But I’ll need to badge in, in order to use my next park hope after a certain time. That’s BS when I’m paying a premium price.

I agree with pretty much everything, however, epic universe doesn't really offer much for three, four, five, six year olds. I know that there are some kids who are into some of the worlds that are coming, but by and large magic kingdom will always be the first park that parents take their very young children to.
They can take their kids to Magic Kingdom. Nobody wants their vacation ruined by whinny kids and Karen moms. Universal caters to families with older children.
I would not be surprised to see an Orlando Universal Kids park by 2030. Universal still has quite a bit of land with which to work. I also wouldn't be surprised if they wind up with more land along International Drive or Universal Boulevard as Universal consolidates more of Orlando's visitors.
Nintendo world is a slam dunk everyone loves Mario, and I guarantee they will get virtually every game streamer coming checking it out and promoting the crap out of it just by proxy of them going
There is a lot of smart things in here, and for my part I plan to hit up nintendo world when I get the chance. It's also interesting they did this expansion in Orlando. The irony is a little rich in that they get to benefit of the decades of Disney building it up as a destination.
I love a lot of the critique here in this video but I think you’re way overstating the impact of the “wokeness”. Universal Studios has made the same efforts to be inclusive and progressive and many things. The core difference is that universal is doing cool things on a big budget to attract an audience that is starved for new experiences and investment.
Universal is inclusive however they don't try to be political and in-your-face about it. They are more focused on improving their parks instead of virtue signaling.
Epic Universe will include an interactive Mario concession stand where you can join him in eating Disney’s lunch.

DIdn't Disney fire a bunch of imagineers a few years ago for not being diverse, so Universal hired them all? Could be apocryphal.

When they said Celestial Park is "a park within a theme park," I think this is a nod to Walt Disney who was inspired by Griffith Park in LA to build "a theme park within a park." I think the celestial carousel is also a nod to Disney who would take his daughters to the carousel ride at Griffith Park (I love the subtle nod to NBC with the peacock ride vehicle).
Celestial Park feels more organic compared to Disney's current projects that all feel like hard plastic and plaster, like Avengers campus and Blah'tu. To me, the last great Disney Park land was Cars Land from ten years ago. It is more immersive and closely connected to its IP than Blah'tu will ever be.

Looks like a lot of fun. I was hoping their Nintendo park would branch out into some of Ninty's other successful franchises like Legend of Zelda, Metroid, or Pokemon but I guess I can settle for Donkey Kong.
Rumors going around is Zelda might take over the Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure and Pokemon to take over the simpsons area before 2030 but we’ll see if those rumors are true in the coming years. Fingers crossed!!

Who would have thought universal would surpass disney in the near future? Not me, i figured disney was king for the next 100 years.
As a DVC family that goes to Disney world ever other year, we are planing on spending some time this year at universal… I think the last time we went was the opening of the Simpson ride 😅 so it’s been a long time. I’m more excited for universal than Disney in terms of rides. But Disney world is still my favorite place to just walk around. But the removal of free park hoping any time and having to schedule your entire trip, six months advance is BS.
How do I know that I id want to go to animal Kingdom on a Monday morning if it’s gonna rain months in the past? But I’ll need to badge in, in order to use my next park hope after a certain time. That’s BS when I’m paying a premium price.

I agree with pretty much everything, however, epic universe doesn't really offer much for three, four, five, six year olds. I know that there are some kids who are into some of the worlds that are coming, but by and large magic kingdom will always be the first park that parents take their very young children to.
They can take their kids to Magic Kingdom. Nobody wants their vacation ruined by whinny kids and Karen moms. Universal caters to families with older children.

I would not be surprised to see an Orlando Universal Kids park by 2030. Universal still has quite a bit of land with which to work. I also wouldn't be surprised if they wind up with more land along International Drive or Universal Boulevard as Universal consolidates more of Orlando's visitors.

I love a lot of the critique here in this video but I think you’re way overstating the impact of the “wokeness”. Universal Studios has made the same efforts to be inclusive and progressive and many things.
The core difference is that universal is doing cool things on a big budget to attract an audience that is starved for new experiences and investment.
Universal is inclusive however they don't try to be political and in-your-face about it. They are more focused on improving their parks instead of virtue signaling.
