    I'm a category guy at heart, but I love seeing how balls roll before I purchase them. I also am a fan of certain cores (Game Breaker, One, Obsession Tour, Paradox). Got some great advice from Brando a while back as well, which led me to the Obsession Tours. Those balls are amazing, and he was the guy who pointed me in the right direction. Also, I have to agree with many of you that it's a real joy when Mitch in on the channel. Everybody on the channel is great, but his analysis and explanation of his thought process during ball reviews is top-notch.

    I used to think of trying to checklist an arsenal was ideal. But now…I still pay attention to the high/low RG & diff…cover and core…but mostly go for feel and desired shape. My THS is kinda Jekyll and Hyde-big cliff and out of bounds. Carry down has you moving right all night.
    I appreciate you showing the versatility of The One Remix.

    If going to a tourney, I definitely will fill the categories. Even now will take a solid urethane, a pearl urethane, and an asym urethane just in case. I've been working on understanding ball cover, core, and layouts more in making ball selection and adjustments. As always, love the videos!

    When I first got back into bowling, about two years ago, I got balls based on type. I have about 9 balls I rotate between based on what pattern is out at league. I usually only actually carry 3 or 6 with me, and when I do that's purely just based on how the balls have been reacting lately at league.

    I tend to build my bag with two strong balls up top(one defined and one smooth), two mediums(one defined and one smooth), and then something cleaner. I don’t get too hung up on cover and core designators, I try to go by what my eyes tell me. However, I try not to go too crazy on asyms, sometimes they have the tendency to either be the nuts or look like complete crap. Syms tend to be more versatile and stable so I’d rather have that most of the time.

    I build my arsenal mainly based on feel, cause I do have a lot of prototypical common trends in my bag but some balls don’t fit my bag or feel good when I throw them. I usually have a Urethane piece, like a Pitch Black or Purple Hammer and then followed by Proton Physix, Phaze 2 at 2000 grit, Zen at 4k Fast, Wolverine Dark Moss at 4k Fast, and HyRoad Pearl at 4k Fast.

    I decide on the ball to throw based on the motion it gives me on the current pattern. Depending on these factors, sometimes it's a solid symm to start more right, on the THS (IQ Tour solid), then go to a polished pearl asym as the lane breaks down (900 Global Honey Badger Extreme or Track 503C).

    I build my arsenal with what i see with my eyes. Sometimes something SHOULD make sense but doesn't. Have had a strong ball on a weak house do really well. And that was The One. I've also had strong balls not do what they are supposed to on my typical house shot which has plenty of oil to deal with. I do pay attention to coverstock more than sym vs asym. I go with the balls I know I can trust. The One is the best One of all of them. It replaced the Phaze II (or Phaze Flow) and the Zen in my bag. Replaced the RST X-2 for a bit but that's now found a way back into the rotation. I really like this ball with the Cuda PowerCOR for league and sometimes Black WIdow Legend from a few years back.

  • @russellarmstrong1339

    Am just getting back after 18years, so in refilling the bags, yeah between specs and reviews I have covered most bases to see what suits. Historicly I find pearls suit me better and as such I've only started with one solid and I do like weaker balls so I will stay in that sort of area, but still think it's good to have one or 3 balls that do things you don't normally like. There will always be that condition that catches you out. I think it's a balance.. my core 3 balls will be wet, med, dry that suit me and I like and probably pearl, one big asym solid that I may never use something kinda random that sits over the other 3, probably a really low rg polished solid and a plastic (keen to try an asym) For me the smart play is a balance of what looks and feels good to me mixed with some contingency plans. Maybe I will discover something different and that will be based on feel/shape....

    Great video. I throw 1 ball, a quantum Imperial. I don’t buy in to the need for an arsenal stuff, but I do understand the idea.
    My release is made up and probably bad by all metrics. I can typically shoot a bit below 200, but haven’t had the time for leagues since I was a child.

  • @rakkup7572

    My strong ball is an ebonite maverick (15) with the gp14.0 cover and it’s so reactive I have other people throw it all the time just so they can feel what a monster ball feels like. No one can believe it’s insane reaction on all types of oil. I’d buy “the one” just for the cover stock!

  • @Bloodth3Butcher

    The way I do things with Asym and Sym is to compare what I actually have. I have a Zen Master which hooks really early. I'd like an Asym Solid to read more the midlane like a Jackal Ghost or Reality. It's all about who is rolling and what they have imo.

    I'm not a check the box person when it comes to arsenal building. I bowl almost exclusively on sport patterns, so I look for shapes that match my game and I think will work for what I want to do. As long as I have enough coverage there, the rest is surface adjustments and hand position changes. 90% of the time I just end up throwing the DGV or purple hammer anyway.

  • @the_crusty_ledge
    @the_crusty_ledge 2 роки тому +1

    I'm very much a feel player. . I don't think you can count on a sym or a-sym of a certain strength doing exactly one thing. I fill slots in my bag based off reaction on certain patterns and where in the breakdown of those patterns I would through said ball. That always gives me a better complete picture of what I have in the bag. Being able to switch balls and move 5 boards left, for example, and know what the reaction will be is more important in the end.

  • @AvgPanda13
    @AvgPanda13 Рік тому

    Honestly I thought about filling my bags with the first thought process but being back into bowling it’s more of stepping down ball strength and shot shape to help with lane adjustments spending enough time practicing and in league to keep confident in ball reaction and mark adjustments.

      Buddies Pro Shop up here where I'm from in Connecticut offers bowlers the option to send a ball to them and have them create a layout spec sheet for you. They're pretty known and a few guys on tour like Prather wear their patch. Doesn't matter where you're from in the country. They'll call you and go over options with you and offer suggestions. I've been going to them for seventeen years now. I know it's not exactly the same as going into the shop itself, but I promise they can take care of you.

    Hey JR Pro Shop!!!!
    Ball Question here:
    I have Ebonite The One Remix. Dunno its layout, but its layout is very angular and sharp in the backend. I tried removing the out of box finish and sanded it to 3000grit. Hoping it would use alil more energy early and have less of that sharp backend.
    Nope! lol
    The only way I can keep the ball in the pocket (right handed) is releasing it with a soft/weak hand and increase my speed!
    Ive tried it many games as out of box finish on my league nite house shot, several tournaments (sport shots and modified house shot patterns) and this thing just hooks soo much if I "put hand in the ball". I have to stay behind it with increased speed or else it goes past Brooklyn no matter where I play the lane lol
    What surface would be ideal (overall use on lanes) for my ball? Dull like 1000grit? 2000grit? polished and shiny 5000?
    OR . . . as I figured I have the wrong layout/shape for me?

    • @scorpion-ninja8228
      @scorpion-ninja8228 Рік тому

      Well lastnite I tried that ball again. Threw it in practice a few times, then decided time to try out 1000 grit surface on it.
      LOL that did not calm it down in the backend. Gonna bring it back up through the grits, 2000,3000,4000,5000 then apply 2 coats of polish to it. Should end up like 6500!!!
      Should be good for long patterns of 43 ft +++
      Ill find out in afew weeks when I bowl the tournament at Thunderbowl in allen park, Mi.

    Let me guess? It's got the NINJA ASSASSIN 5000 core with the reactive resin pearl urethane turbo deluxe cover and it's a MUST HAVE BALL that
    should be in EVERYONES ARSENAL and it's a BENCHMARK BALL that's JUST LIKE 100 other balls on the market but SLIGHTLY different since it's
    able to glide through the heads and DRIVES THROUGH THE PINS as HOOKS HARD OFF THE BREAKING POINT? Word. In 4 years it'll end up being
    just another ball at the bottom of the ocean with the other 8 million bowling balls. 😑
