Drone Railfanning NS Reading Shops- former RDG locomotive shops in Reading, PA

Former Reading Railroad shops along North 6th street in Reading, PA. Construction began in 1900 and these shops were used through almost a hundred years of locomotive changes as well as owners. Originally built by the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad they would eventually become an important shop for the Reading Railroad. Later owned by Penn Central, Conrail and now Norfolk Southern. The yard is the primary use here and most of the buildings remain empty except for some storage in the primary building along north sixth street. This is a difficult area to fly with an airport being close by, special permission (requests & codes) is needed and altitude is capped around 198 ft. Signal/ satellite options are low and getting onto the property is tough with NS police on constant patrol so I don’t recommend it. The flight path border is just near the edge of the classification yard so you don’t get many options and without authorization you won’t even get off the ground.
