    Thanks for making it simple. This car is a pain in the ass to work on. I’m now a subscriber to your channel

    So yeah there's a bleeder nearby to let all the air out.

    You forgot to mention go to your drain plug nearby and open and close it a few times to let all the air out

    I appreciate this video, I have an 07 PT and I replaced my cracked radiator but it still overheats so I'm thinking the thermostat might be the next issue that's keeping the fan from kicking on.

    thanks for the easy to understand vid! Now I can replace my fiancees thermo in hers, was having to keep the heat on max so the engine temp didnt go above half way into hot. Hopefully when i change it later today that was the problem!

    You forgot to bleed the air. The car will run hot and overheat if you don't.

    When you pull on the house you can Crack the fule line clamp which is very fragile it's better to remove the manifold like you said and book calls for so you clean the housing but also remember the themo has a nipple you have to line up. I leaned the hard way and end up replaced the fule line and lining up the nipple in the plastic neck

    My wife's PT Cruiser is acting up. The heater doesn't blow hot air. That has been going on for a week or two. The temperature has always been normal or even slightly lower. It doesn't change when it is idling or driving. The water is topped off on the radiator and reservoir, so it isn't that. I was thinking the thermostat, but usually the temp will rise when the car is idling and cool as it is driving, and it isn't doing that. I was thinking the water pump is failing to move water, but I am not sure because I figured the car would overheat. Today we had a really hot day, and it did actually overheat, but that was just today. I was thinking the system may be clogged too. I just don't know. Does anyone have an idea?

      May have already figured out. Assuming air is blowing and temp is cold: With car/radiator cooled down remove radiator cap and let car warm up. Hopefully it does not overflow at neck and you can check for water flow movement once thermostat opens. If thermostat is sticking closed it is possible you are getting no flow through heater core and maybe even a lot of air due to boil off so no or little water entering heater core. Also check lines / hoses coming in and out of heater core to see if they are hot. If so may just be cable that connects to temp control air flow door at control knob end or door end. If one or more of these hoses are cold may have obstruction somewhere either in heater core, radiator or water coolant passages leading to it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    You dont just put it in!
    You failed to explain the exact position that the thermostat has to be when re installed. Nothing of cleaning surfaces. Most importantly take care not to damage adjacent fuel line.
    Then explain the need & how to bleed system.
    etc...etc

    What about the notch that the Gasket has? should it be aligned with the plastic part? (housing)

    Thanks for broadcast I would live to see a coolant temperature sensor replaced and the bleed screw for the coolant as well done for 2005 oflr earlier PT Cruiser since no one in the Albany NY the capital of NY will touch a Chrysler can't find a mechanic!

    • @MrPacedan
      @MrPacedan 5 років тому +1

      1 mechanic here told me he wont touch PT Cruisers.I dont think he knew the fan motors have 2 speeds & 1 speed can go out.You also want to bleed the cooling system

  • @Leomedic74

    So you forgot a Major set at the end. Did you not see the bleeder valve next to the thermostat. If you don't do that it will keep over heating that's why it takes more time. Please if you are going to show people how to do something make sure you've learned the right way because that one little thing destroyed my engine

    My replacement thermostat is Gates 33849. The thermostat from the top view is offset to one side so you need to have it placed in a set place indicated by a extended rectangular tang on the thermostat rubber gasket that fits into a corresponding groove of the upper seat of the filler tube that it seats into. If you had no affixed gasket or a gasket that could go in any position this might affect function of thermostat related to efficiency of coolant flow through. Most importantly though would need to be correct side up. The extended spring side goes toward the engine.

    That extendo magnet stick is the bomb...wish i knew of using them years earlier...saves so much time installing...(those and those cable claws for dropped parts)

      You can also just put a little paper inside your socket. This creates a interference fit. And the bolt will stay in the socket. You can also do this for installation.

    ok so i just changed my fiance's thermo... at 0:27 there is a skinny braided looking cord near your ring finger or pinky near the radiator cap. It's also the same cord behind your tool at 1:45
    While I was installing the thermo, I tried to move it out the way... and gasoline leaked out. I am curious what line did I break? it looks as if I truly snapped it, the snap of hard plastic happened. pl,ease, anyone, what did I break?>???/

    • @neoistheone7523
      @neoistheone7523 5 років тому

      Probably resolved by now but for other folks working this issue be wary of plastic fuel line nearby as it can be broken easily. Why they used plastic i'm sure I don't know.

    Thanks for the guidance I really liked the clear and simple way of your explanation. I would dare to do it if I had the tools. I live in the Carolinas and here anything simple that has the car wants to charge a fortune especially if you are a woman.

    • @davidl9232

      The tools being used are pliers( for the hose clamp on the right)
      Socket and ratchet ( to reach the bolts on the thermostat location)..the part that is the handle, is the 'ratchet '. And the part that fits on the bolt head, is the 'socket'.). The item used to catch the anti-freeze when the hoses were pulled off the connection spots, is a collection pan( he does not show it while he is working, and it is not in the video). It is simply any wide enough container to catch the dripping liquid from the hoses and connection spots. Good luck

    Would it be wise to start with replacing the thermostat on my '02 since I have cold air from heater and vehicle is overheating?

    • @sfcd4757
      @sfcd4757 5 років тому

      Possibly.. but how is the coolant level in general? You may have to flush out your heater core (and radiator) as it may be plugged up with gunk that its blocked up.
