    It's always the guys from the south that give the best mechanical advice. First a guy from Georgia taught me how to do my own breaks, and now this guy! Thank you, good sir, and a fair good morrow to you!

    My 1996 4.0 L grand Cherokee died the other day and the ignition coil was very cracked and I replaced it turns out it wasn’t that it was the crank sensor I love these trucks pretty simple to work on and they last forever!

      Hmm yeah sometimes it isn't the computer or ignition coil but most time I see . It's the computer causing the issues. But yeah definitely a bad crank sensor will cause no spark at all

      What nightmare is 100% these jeeps . It actually ended up being the ECM Computer that caused all of these problems and kept eating parts . Replaced the computer and got rid of the jeep not long after

    Hey CD, got a similar issue. Honestly i wish i could have heard the jeep run before the swap cuz i keep getting multiple misfire codes and now mine is popping up with p0351. Ill be pissed if that was the issue this whole time after distributer cap and rotor swap. Thanks for the video. Time to buy some new parts

      Hi there can you provide info on tools used for this fix (tools, size)
      Thanks

    • @KnuckleHeadGarage27
      @KnuckleHeadGarage27  6 років тому +1

      Robness Mataiti tools I use was 2 10 millimeters one 10mm socket and a 10mm ratchet and a extension that takes it off there is a nut on the back of the ignition coil that you use a wrenching ratchet to take them off with

  • @redscorcher
    @redscorcher 3 роки тому +5

    Those two nuts in the back are a pain in the ass to get to, especially when reinstalling.

    • @KnuckleHeadGarage27
      @KnuckleHeadGarage27  3 роки тому +3

      Yes they can really be a challenge . Not easy

    • @redscorcher
      @redscorcher 3 роки тому +1

      I had to find a better way. I took a 10mm open end wrench and super glued the nut to the wrench, that way I could get the nut behind the mounting plate and start tightening the bolt with my fingers, this worked for me. There is not much room for my fingers to hold that nut in back of that mounting plate. Thanks for your video information.

    Ok so I replaced my coil after cracking open the pcm and checking it out. I was nothing wrong with any of the connection points on the pcm. So I changed out the coil yesterday and we'll see what happens

      I'm going through the same thing. Did this work out for you?

    • @KnuckleHeadGarage27
      @KnuckleHeadGarage27  4 роки тому +1

      There no usually look to see of the connection fornthe computer it's a problem of not connecting good or the screws that hold the ecm together from factory are to long and they ground out the circuit board inside the computer so sometimes you can take those out and buy shorter ones and put them back in and most of the time it will fix it but or it's a problem just inside the ecm where the connectors are that plug into the computer have problems. On this vehicle in video I could wiggle the connectors or mess with them while was running and it would cut off on me or cut up or not even start back

  • @anxietyadder6516

    Okay so I'm working on a 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 and there are battery cables blocking the damn bolts that hold the coil in place. I can't push them down or pull them up out of the way.

    • @KnuckleHeadGarage27
      @KnuckleHeadGarage27  6 років тому

      AnxietyAdder there shouldn't be any problem should be just the same as the vehicle in this video

  • @robertpilger7897

    Actually there is an easier way. Use a 13mm and get the nuts that hold the grounds. Pull the ground wires and then use a 13mm deep socket to pull those bolts out. Everything is self explained from there but you get to clean your grounds at the same time.

    • @randybonner9870
      @randybonner9870 Рік тому +2

      Thank you Robert I was basically saying the same thing. There's several wires down there that need ground connection cleaning and it's so much easier to take those bolts out you'll have the coil in your hand in about 90 freaking seconds. Then why you're sitting at a desk you can take the coil out of the bracket that worrying about them nuts on the back that are going spin round and round turning a three-minute job into a five-hour nightmare

      Yes and no it did that sometimes was the customers complaint it's all related to the computer is the main issue that's what was wrong with this vehicle

    • @geostanley409
      @geostanley409 5 років тому +1

    STOP THE PRESSES . Oh my goodness. Do not take the coil off like that.
    Disclaimer! I didn't realize this until recently either. Do not touch those two bolts with nuts on the back of them until you have the coil in your hands out of the vehicle. There are two bolts just below the coil. Left side of the coil has two wires and the right side has one. Two bolts that you see, are holding a bracket coil is contained in. Take those two bolts out and then you will have the coil in your hand and probably less than three minutes. Please this is so easy those bottom two bolts are a bracket that holds the coil so when you take those two bolts out you got the coil in your freaking hands in 3 minutes I mean 90 freaking seconds. I just went through watching 20 videos of people telling me how aggravating this was to take the coil out of a 99 Jeep Cherokee and I happened upon one more video which makes it probably 21 and this Jackie said, yeah you take the two bottom bolts just the coil and you'll have it off in just a minute and damn sure told the truth
