John about 25 years ago I was fishing the Charlestown Breachway and I snagged a NY Mets cap with my bottom rig. It was all tangled with some seaweed and other drek, but it made me laugh that it had surely drifted/floated been blown across toward Rhody from your neck of the sound... so now I am claiming that the doc spook you found must be mine. I lost it last August when a bluefish cut me off casting off of Beavertail. As you well know it is a great plug and only you would find such a valuable(overpriced) nugget walking along your stomping grounds! You really are unbelievable. Stay safe.
Very nice video John, glad you're safe and dry up north today. Hope you and all your SW Fla friends make it through the storm OK. Can't wait for you video from ME.
Hi John, I hope your doing well. I’m from Guatemala, I learned and improve my striped bass fishing watching your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge about fishing. From fish little porgy on a river in Guatemala, thanks to you I learned how to fish the beautiful striped bass in Long Island NY, I hope to meet you some day and shake the hand of “ the best striped bass angler.”
So I’ve actually fished this spot too. Just happened to stumble upon it one day. Obv I won’t say where it is but I’ve seen two of the biggest bucks I’ve ever seen in the woods behind it fishing the beach so it was a nice bonus to my morning that day.
Awesome video. Always informative and fun to watch. I loved the change between drone footage and explanation and back to fishing. So cool how you can view overhead for your potential spots to fish. Take care John
John would like to see some video on blackfishing from the beach. I'm sure alot of other guys would like to see also. Something diffrent and your the man to make a good video with it.
I hope that you're place on Pine Island survived! My place on Fort Myers had six feet of surge water. I'm three miles from the Matanzas bridge. Best of luck with the rebuild/ repair.
I'm sorry to hear of your place. Reports from my street say no one has water in the house. We're at 7' elevation, and it came up just below that. The structure made it through pretty well. Access is the issue now before mold sets in. Can't get through Matlacha.
Drones are really cool for finding fish. There's some really great footage of the Florida mullet runs getting attacked by tarpon and the tarpon getting eaten by hammerheads, plus snook and all are there. And I bet a drone is like cheating on the flats for redfish or for finding cobia. Great tool.
You are a wealth of great information and we owe you many thanks for sharing it with us. As a new angler, it has been difficult understanding why I get skunked so many times. I have a drone sitting around not getting used much. Now it will.
Cool video as usual. I cannot wait for the book! Fishing the Bucktail and Striper Pursuit are must reads for any serious fisherman! I have no doubt Fishing The Edge will be as well!!
The spook has long been my favorite lure owing, I suppose, to the action and the fact that it requires some skill (practice) to use. That said... I don't love fishing them with any rod over 8'. I just find them easier to use sidearm. The traditional overhead use of a surf length rod presents a challenge for me. Looks more like dragging the dog when it should be walking.
So when I black fish from shore, I go out on a man made rock jetty and usually there are other fisherman casting out on the jetty. I'm not sure if you tried this but if you can find a nice hole straight down from the jetty, you can pull out keepers on keepers. It works for me! Amazing video, Learned a lot as usual.
With the discounts the drone is very reasonable. I suppose that Google Maps still has it's applications, I learned alot watching your usage of that app. Big fan and great to see this video waiting for me this morning.
I just bought a drone too. Used it to map out channels in a very shallow tidal estuary so I can safely get out to the Narragansett bay without getting grounded (which happened to me). Your video was awesome, but I had a hard time figuring out the structure and changes you were narrating (cuts, flats, rock beds, etc). Any way you highlight with an arrow/circle or something the things you are explaining so we can begin to decipher our own flight videos? Thank you for all you do to inform us!
As always a great video John. Hoping your Florida piece of heaven makes it through the next 48 hours. Looking like almost a direct hit. I know that's weighing heavy on you tonight. Me too.
Hello John i’m originally from LI live in fla now bought 2 of your books this past year , anyway enjoy your stuff !! But how’s your place down here? stay safe hope all is well
Pretty reasonable priced drone... wondering if it can carry a small payload like a chunk of bait with a sinker to deliver beyond the outer bar. Hint hint for your next video Mr. Skinner
Awesome content as always John! Love this stretch of beach (won’t spot burn). Looks like there is new rock construction on shore with that bulldozer… was this just filmed? Do you think that work will interfere with being able to cast on the rocks this October?
Wish that first stretch of beach was easier to walk to with all the needed fishing equipment lol Also looked at that second location via Google maps. Not really accessible to anyone that doesn't have a parking permit for that town.
Great stuff as always John. I remember maybe 6 months ago you used another drone that landed on the water. Are you still using that one as well? I think it was much more expensive.
Hey John really great stuff. Really impressive how you’re always learning and sharing. How would you compare that Astrospook to the larger Doc in terms of castability and action with your rod? Time for me to get a large spook.
Can't tell you how much I've learned and grown watching these videos and reading your books. I look forward to the next one. Thanks always John.
I appreciate the kind words!

John, thanks for everything over the years. Would love to see more drone footage showing casting / retrieve please!
Very nice video John, glad you're safe and dry up north today. Hope you and all your SW Fla friends make it through the storm OK. Can't wait for you video from ME.

Pretty fantastic looking footage for a drone newbie
Who said you can't teach an old salt new tricks..... Great video as always Mr.Skinner...
Old school, go down at low tide look for rocks cuts and bowls. Read the water. Enjoy walking the beach, it's good for the soul.
I just love top water I'm so stuck on using the cotton Cordell....Fish on the drone is cool stuff

I wonder if you can get a polarized lens to see more 🤔
Great drone footage and very good advice!

Always interesting and educational content. Thanks John.
You are a wealth of great information and we owe you many thanks for sharing it with us. As a new angler, it has been difficult understanding why I get skunked so many times. I have a drone sitting around not getting used much. Now it will.
Forgot to wish you good luck with your winter retreat. May it fare well through the storm.
Thanks. It looks bad, but no conclusive information yet.
Cool video as usual. I cannot wait for the book! Fishing the Bucktail and Striper Pursuit are must reads for any serious fisherman! I have no doubt Fishing The Edge will be as well!!
Thanks for the kind words! I just approved the proof of the new one today.

Google Earth is great. This was nice to be able to get closer.
Good video, thanks
Nice find at the beach finding that Doc!
Around $24 worth I think.
Great info!
Great video John. Really flew that drone well for your second time using it .
It's an easy one.
I just bought a drone too. Used it to map out channels in a very shallow tidal estuary so I can safely get out to the Narragansett bay without getting grounded (which happened to me). Also... Looks like the Salt X and that drone come in the same case.
Nice video. Is this the south or the north shore?
As always a great video John.
Hoping your Florida piece of heaven makes it through the next 48 hours. Looking like almost a direct hit. I know that's weighing heavy on you tonight. Me too.
Yes. It's sucking.
Hello John i’m originally from LI live in fla now bought 2 of your books this past year , anyway enjoy your stuff !! But how’s your place down here? stay safe hope all is well
Hi John… Thinking about you and hoping your Florida home made it through Ian. #Floridastrong
Thanks. My place did surprisingly well and did not flood, but we can't get there because of the washout in Matlacha.
If you have any river mouths that lead to the sea in your area, id check those out. Dozen slots an outing here in rhode island
Hope you got on some smallies up in Maine!
Hope your friends and stuff are safe today down South
Great footage with drone. May I ask, what is the cost of drone like that? And, what is learning curve in learning to use it?.......LOUIE
What kind of bag is that? Pretty nice.
Pretty reasonable priced drone... wondering if it can carry a small payload like a chunk of bait with a sinker to deliver beyond the outer bar. Hint hint for your next video Mr. Skinner
No payload capability. But it's a nice stable unit that does what it's supposed to.
Awesome content as always John! Love this stretch of beach (won’t spot burn). Looks like there is new rock construction on shore with that bulldozer… was this just filmed? Do you think that work will interfere with being able to cast on the rocks this October?
Doubtful on interference.
Love that area…. “Fffffourrrrrr!”
Wish that first stretch of beach was easier to walk to with all the needed fishing equipment lol

Any news on your house in fl I know pine island was destroyed ?
Great stuff as always John. I remember maybe 6 months ago you used another drone that landed on the water. Are you still using that one as well? I think it was much more expensive.
Hey John really great stuff. Really impressive how you’re always learning and sharing. How would you compare that Astrospook to the larger Doc in terms of castability and action with your rod? Time for me to get a large spook.
It casts much better than the 9-inch Doc. That said, if I could reach fish with both, I'd take the 9-inch Doc.
Have you ever used Google Earth as a tool to prospect? It show's pretty good drop off and structure.
Very often. It's great.
Awesome video! Your channel seems really cool!! Just subbed too!👍
Welcome aboard!
Can you let me know where you got the lure bag from? Please and thank you.

Dear John Skinner, I hope all is well at your place on Pine Island. My thoughts are with you.
Thanks. I still don't know the status of the home. The bridge is out.
john,,do you think those beach areas would be good fluking from shore spots or do you prefer fishing just depth changes without the rocky areas?
They're not. That part of the eastern sound is challenging for fluke even from a boat.
What River in Maine was that ? Thanks.
TAKE ME FISHEN JOHN
Hey John I know it’s early but how do you think this blackfish season will be. I’ve seen people catch them all summer.
It's always good out east, but a friend has fished them in Ct all summer where it's open and it's been great.
Is this north or south shore
North.
Hi John. My folks have or had a house down the road from you. Sorry.
Was that another lure left of the spook
No.
Oh ok just looked like it in video
How about a catch and cook video? Maybe something that has GHEE in the recipe?
Ha, ha, ha, ha,,,,,,,,,,,
