What a great pour! I love how the colours turned out and not too over the top with cell action. I love the fact you don't torch and still get great cells and your canvases turn out beautifully awesome! Keep up the good work. I am definitely going to try with just one colour and add in a touch of this and that and see how it works. Great idea and no real colour wastage. Thanks for sharing with us xx
Anita Blake my pleasure and thank you for writing in! :) I'm glad you noticed these things. I do agree on the cells, my paintings have way too many in general even if I don't use silicone and torch it. This comment has just given me an idea :) x
Hi MelyD. This was a clever thing to do with this piece of work. It wasn't too bad to start with but it definitely needed something. The black really gave it definition and a 3D look. As you mentioned the colours popped. The white which was a bit lost in the beginning became much whiter against the strong black. It really broke up the painting and made up for the lack of negative space. It was fun to watch. I bet it was fun to do all that colouring in. Doing that is known to provide great relaxation for the brain, and helps relieve stress. There is a whole science behind it at Adult Colouring in books are all the rage. But WOW you don't need a book to colour, you just grab hold of a art piece that needs a revamp and voila. You have a lot of strings to your bow, which makes you interesting and a must to watch. And about your camera in the sink. That's a hoot! 😂
Thanks so much for the reply. I viewed the pink pour you created and think it such a wise Artist who knows when to stop. Good on you for seeing the simplicity of the results. I was telling you as I watched...Noooo, don't do a thing...no...no....and I clapped when you decided to stop. Drama in your video...cute...love it. Keep on doing what you do...Thanks again.
I'm absolutely with you on simple being best -- I like the cells, but just when they form naturally. I find myself talking to the screen, saying, "no, don't torch it -- it looks beautiful, it's fine-- oh, see now you've messed it up." Sigh. I like having just a few cells. And I really love how your monochrome piece turned out.
Lori Peace9 Art me too...lol I'm constantly thinking and say walk away. No don't use the heat gun... not really with MelyD but definitely with other artists
catching some of ur previous videos wow cross-legged on a floor totally decorated with 'splatts' of many colours it looks like a cave 😂 thx 4 the mixing lesson ❤
When you pre paint, do you let it dry a little. I have to. Glad to see you do this!!!!!........done, and very pretty. When you start tilting, it looks like your paints are very thin. I really like your work!
What I like about you best.... you are true to your word. Simple is best. First, you don’t buy stir sticks. No gloves and don’t go crazy with pouring medium. Your paintings are beautiful
I followed these instructions exactly but I used ice clue as my base instead& I painted the sides the silver blue instead of just the base blue because it’s a dark shade, the light completely disappeared! Lol! I actually added some blue black & white at the end & hit it with a blow dryer because it is so dark! Funny how each color has its own personality! Here’s pix of the original outcome & then the additions - well I can’t find the add photo option, if I find it I’ll add the pictures! Thanks for all your videos!
Thats normal!! Darker colors take over. White is the most dense and will seep to the bottom. Black the least dense and will rise to the top. You really have to experiment :) you can't add images here but you can send them to me in Facebook messages. Glad you're enjoying yourself!
In some other artists' videos you can see that their work will need to be retouched once the painting has cured and before varnishing, which adds days to the production process, especially when the composition is in dark colours. It's worth the little bit of time spent on preparation. If you have acrylic spray cans in your collection of paints they can get the edges done quickly, and they dry in no time.
BEAUTIFUL. I did a pour with blue, white, & silver from a spray paint can that I sprayed into a cup and it turned out gorgeous. The silver has some texture to it and kinda lays on top of the other colors. It's my favorite by far. I plan on pouring Art Resin on it tomorrow. Would love to show you. May I send a photo to you? You are such an amazing artist. Take care! ♡
Sure you can send it! I'm planning on making an Artist/Fan Gallery page on my website, send it to me either on facebook or by email and if you want I will add it there :) Did you know you could also spray the spray paint on your wet paint after having moved it around? I haven't done it in so long! Think I'm gonna get me some soon ;) Thank you so much! lotsa love
1. when you say "I scrubbed the old painting, do you mean you did it while it was still wet? How do you use old cured canvases ? Gesso ? 2. Here you painted the sides with acrylic paint but not the middle part (for a reason). What do you think about using white (or whatever other colour) acrylic paint as the primer instead of gesso ? We use gesso because it covers well and it sticks well and paints stick well to it but ... if you needed to prime an old canvas would you use acrylic paint as the primer ? And I mean : paint, let it dry. Please carry on on your vids - your work is amazing and you are a very talented artist but you are also an awesome tutor and this is a rare treat
Also, do you use the left over poured paint again?? For another poured piece...do you drag sticks, or even odd shaped objects through the poured paint??? I'm sure you've used your fingers...but what about rolling a ball across...or dragging a cloth across...of course a stick, comb, sponge...anything...run over the surface????
The questions you ask seem like you haven't watched the video. I do not reuse the paint no. I have tried other things yes but I prefer the reaction of the paint on its own
Hello, I watched many of your videos. I loved everyone you did!! also I watched so many spin off ( people who tried to do the same thing you are doing) I would like to tell you that you are safe and you do not have anything to worry about. you art is amazing. I would love to be able to do it my self just as a hobby. I feel i am missing a lot of terms, and what makes each paint act the way they act and what the other mixes you are using with the paint i would love to know all that i will send you pictures of all my doing later and i will give you all the credits because you are the best artiste i have seen on here so far. best wished my good new friend Sam
I did see your video and heard that you don't but there's always exceptions to every thing in Art....I hate waisting paint. However, I do love what you are creating. So very unique and interesting.
Keep in mind it's just paint, not food or water ;) A lot of people pour onto another canvas or whichever substrate. Some keep the dried paint and peel it off to make other stuff. It's really up to you! Thank you!
Hi Mel! I love Yr work. I’m in Australia and I use global paint ( here in au people mix it 3:1 ratio of floetrol : paint for acrylic pouring) which must sound crazy for you. 😱 I really want to try out your technique. Global paint is quite thick ( that’s why they use so much floetrol as a PM. So if I have a thick kind of paint how much water is to much? How runny the paint should be ? Thank you so much 😊
Please help. I love your paintings and I love fluid art. I really like how my paintings look when they are wet but when they dry they look flat and dull what is a in expensive way to keep my finished painting stay shiny and wet looking ?
I love when you do the large size canvas ,I would love to do a larger canvas but I have a hard time with my 16× 20 and having enough paint just for that size, how do you always have enough paint for your canvas ?
That's pratice! the first big ones I did I didn't have enough paint so I prepped more during. In time I decided to have more than enough prepared just in case :)
Hi! I am so glad I bumped into your channel. It was all so complicated before, and with you it is so simple? Thank you for your presentations. My question - how long does it tale to completely dry up, and if you do apply any sealer before hanging it on the wall. I do some abstract paintings, but I want to try this as well, to add to my collection. Start Sept. 1, my local library will have me as an artist of the month with my abstracts, and I really would like to add couple of pouring paintings, so I still have time to practice! But I am not sure if I have to apply the top coat, or sealer or anything else before hanging. Thank you in advance.
Hey Lifebee, drying time depends on size, quantity of paint poured and temperature. I say it ranges between 12-36h. Yes I suggest adding a varnish to your painting a few days after it has dried. Hope this helps! Mely
MelyD.artist hey Mel I'm sorry, you might have answered this in another video (I'm actually currently watching your techniques playlist to double check some info!😁) but one thing I was wondering is what you prefer to use as a top coat/varnish? I went to Michaels to grab something, but realized what I had in mind was more expensive then I was guessing. So I didn't grab any just yet because I thought I'd look into it. I've actually never finished a painting with a top coat ever!!! So I'm making it into a daunting task I suppose 🤗
It’s a bit more than one bottle of Americana because you added other paint to make the different shades right? Would you say that you added the equivalent of a half bottle of Americana? Or maybe another full bottle?
I hope you will answer. My biggest problem is when I pour the background paint on my canvas or whatever I am using for my pours. The paint does not stick to the surface and stay. I end up with dry areas on the top and sides and edges. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Does this have to do with the Pouring Medium? Would appreciate your help. Thank you!
Another fabulous pour. Thanks for the tip re pm. I've been adding way too much to my mixes 😳 still trying to get cells without additives. I will succeed. One day! 👍
Hi Mel, I got a question. You didn't use silicone in this video. How is it possible than, that there are still some cells? Is it because of the pouring medium? I like your video's a lot :D (When you do use silicone, when do you add it? before or after the water? )
Hey Mel =) First of all, thank you for all your videos. I'm totally in love with what you're doing. It inspired me and i'd like to try liquid painting. I have lot of acryl paint (normal acryl not fluid )at home. How can i use them ? Does it work if i add pouring medium ? (looking for a way to make it become liquid and not using water) Thank you for your creativity!
shishouu thank you so much and yes you can use regular acrylic paint. If you absolutely don't want to use water (which I believe is a must) then yes you will need a lot of pouring medium. hope you have fun and good luck!
Not understanding your additives...??? Got the part on the kind of paint. Got the part about adding water...but did not get what kind of medium you use to create the cells in your work????? Just couldn't hear. What do you use..please????
I watch your videos almost every night , they are so relaxing. The puddle pours are beautiful and you have given me inspiration. Thanks a lot.
This was so interesting to watch. I always learn another tip to add to my list. I love the colors, mixing, design, & your personality❗️
I am so glad that you are back... Geezzze! You are my most favorite artist/person ever!
Awww! you're too kind! xXx
What a great pour! I love how the colours turned out and not too over the top with cell action. Wow! I didn’t realize how little the amount of pouring medium you put in your colors! And it works!!!!!
Thanks so much for the reply. I viewed the pink pour you created and think it such a wise Artist who knows when to stop. Good on you for seeing the simplicity of the results. Your paintings are so unique. Most f the videos I have been watching are just variations of the same techniques. Yours are unique
This turned out good. I like that you think of how youfeel about cells. Less is best. Concentration on the colors complement each.
Hi Mely, I'm a fellow artist from Lasalle, Quebec. I watch and like your videos.
Hi Mely, love your videos. I tried your way without silicon and it works great! Thank you for all your instruction and inspirations. ❤️
Oh I'm so glad to hear it! Good for you! :)
It turned out Gorgeous!!!
Thank you!!
Very cool. Mel D Really enjoyed watching this creation, Cheers, Marie 'downunder'
Oh Thank you🙏 this is very useful for the new fluid art artist I am. Take care💝☀️
Very beautiful! You are right:“Simple is best!“
Your the best Mely. Love your art. Love you colours. Love your glasses. Thanks for all your videos 😍😍😍😍😍
another one..wow..100% true, simple is best..I'm in awe on this..thanks for sharing..
Thank you so much Ian and my pleasure :)
never cease to amaze me !
catching some of ur previous
videos wow cross-legged on a floor

of many colours it looks like a cave 😂
thx 4 the mixing lesson ❤
Simple is best I adore it.
J'aime beaucoup ce que vous faites. C'est juste magnifique
Merci beaucoup!
Fantastic outcome!! Thx for sharing!
Always a pleasure to watch you work.
I am going to try this someday but I have to get the pouring medium which isn't as easy to get.
Thank you! You don't absolutely need it. Try just with paint and water or add other additives. Not because I do it this way that you have to :)
MelyD.artist like what is a good replacement? Glue?
Mel my Belle...thank you great work.
Looks fantastic!
When you pre paint, do you let it dry a little. I have to. Glad to see you do this!!!!!........done, and very pretty. When you start tilting, it looks like your paints are very thin. I really like your work!

I've been using glue. What portions do you recommend for paint/glue/water? Thank you
Very pretty!!!
I like the fact you only use a bit of the medium and more h2o. Something I'll need to try. Thank you.
Hi! I’m a huge fan of your work! Thank you for your videos. May I ask what it is that you rest your canvas on to keep it level? Thanks!
Hi and thank you! I use stools that I buy at the dollar store. You know the ones kids use to wash their hands? :)
This is lovely!
Nice one Mel! Love your vids. x
Thank you so much x
Thank you I love learning from you
My pleasure :)

I think you're commenting on a video from 4 years ago... a lot has changed since :) i retouch about half my paintings now :)
Ready to watch and learn😜

@@iftkharahmed4227 she said what the paints were in detail at the beginning. Watch the video again.🙂

Hi Mely, it's CoCo. Great tutorial. Thanks for everything🙂
Hey Coco! you're so welcome!

Beautiful work!!!
Hey, Mely! have you ever try paintings with fluorescent/glow in the dark colors? I wonder how awesome it could be 😆
I have tried but the paint I had was too cheap! I need to get me some good stuff!
MelyD.artist thank you! Looking forward for the new glow in the dark MelyD style painting :)
Beautiful!

Love, love, L-O-V-E this one!
Thank you for being such an inspiration, Mely! What does the finger through the wet paint do?
it's beautiful I like it
Thank you :)
Beautiful
I am surprised over the amount of pm used....ratio looks like 1 for paint and 1/2 for pm....and 1 water! Loved end result
I hope you see this...do you add more or less water and the paint medium depending on the canvas size?
Thanks! I will look for some! Have a great night! :)
Very nice.

Put on a topcoat of clear gloss medium .
love your work is tried twice and today I know about pouring medium it's just called acrylic fluid?
It was amazing, what if I use floetrol instead of liquitex pouring medium? Please if someone knows let me know.😊
Just wondering if you are getting cells because of the pouring medium you use or type of paint you are using? you always get o lot of them.
You cracked me up when you said you were going to make a"girlie" painting....you did great!!! 😀
Thanks Claudia xXx ;)

Would you say that you added the equivalent of a half bottle of Americana? Or maybe another full bottle?
Hi Mely, have you ever tried to incorporate a pour and turning it to abstract painting?
Hmmm isn't that what the pour does already? Or do you mean let it dry and add stuff to it to make a different abstract?
nice colour. Mel how do you get rid of all the waste paint?
The paint that falls off? I let it dry there
It's like a rhodochrosite. I love it!!!
Oh my gosh I have no idea what that is haha!
Rhodochrosite is a pink to red manganese carbonate mineral.
Google it! It's like your painting =D
That's so beautful!!! I so should have googled it before haha thanks!
How do you know when the pouring medium is mixed in completely?
Another perfect score. Yah
Thank you!
Linda Muir I'm not sure I understand what you mean by background paint. Do you fill the whole canvas or do you leave empty spots?
Where did you learn your mixing medium, because everyone else uses floutrol?
I'm not sure I understand. I prefer using pouring medium than Floetrol.
You seem to like to mix your paints to a very thin consistency. Do you find that you get more bleed-through, or do you feel it spreads more easily??
Your a hoot Sister...Nice
Do you put a cover over the back when you are finish with it all?
Jerry Austin nope
Thank you for sharing your pasion, is a really nice work.
Thank you!
Another fabulous pour. Thanks for the tip re pm. I've been adding way too much to my mixes 😳 still trying to get cells without additives. I will succeed. One day! 👍
yes you will! Not too much pm is key!
Thanks 👍
It’s beautiful...Mely question about the canvas, where do u get these thick canvas and are they expensive? Thanks
Payal Patel I buy them at Michaels and yes they are more expensive than the regular ones.
Beautiful! What kind of pouring medium do you use?
Thanks! Liquitex Pouring Medium
How much paint for each and medium? Just really learn at 70. Thanks
Jerry Austin I showed how I prepared the paints in the video
Have you tried tempera (spelling may be off) paint? I'm just curious about the coverage and opacity
I'm sorry but I have no idea what that is
Do u other types of paintings too.?😍😍
I have when I was younger but I'm really into fluid painting at the moment
Amazing!
Thanks for the tutorial
Hi Mel, I got a question.
You didn't use silicone in this video.
How is it possible than, that there are still some cells? Is it because of the pouring medium?
I like your video's a lot :D
(When you do use silicone, when do you add it? before or after the water? )
Hi Joy, I show exactly how I prepare my paints in this video. I don't use silicone, never have. The cells appear because of the process altogether.
Hey Mely! I really enjoy your work! But I'm curious, what pouring medium do you use?
Hey Kylie! Thanks! I use liquitex pouring medium
thanks so much for responding!
If you absolutely don't want to use water (which I believe is a must) then yes you will need a lot of pouring medium. hope you have fun and good luck!
shishouu why don't you want to use water? I'm just curious because that is all I use currently
i love paintings i want to paint in ur styl
i dnt hv colors have to buy colors would u plz help me
anonymous anonymous acrylic paint
I like it to😻
Awesome!
Not understanding your additives...??? Got the part on the kind of paint. Got the part about adding water...but did not get what kind of medium you use to create the cells in your work????? Just couldn't hear. What do you use..please????
I add a few drops of pouring medium
Mitzi Smyth Liquitex Pouring Medium
Hv u painted d canvas white before painting it red???
Nustaran Ali no
What pouring medium are you using?
Jaydia Simmons Liquitex
