Hey guys!!! I filmed this one over 8 months ago. Hopefully it’s still decent enough to post. I don’t remember much of it so we can experience it together, lol. 😅
You did well. I'm constantly looking for new videos of the RS. I own a 2017 RS and love it. Unfortunately, there isn't as much content on them as I would like.
Thanks! It was fun to be back in one as I had only previously been a passenger back in 2016. Super sweet cars, I hope you continue to enjoy your 17 for a long time! Thanks for watching!!
I have a 2015 focus hatchback that I bought used in 2017. It had 29,000 miles on it and I paid $11,900 cash for it. It now has 84,000 trouble free miles on it. The only thing I've done, is keep up on the oil changes. It's a great little car.
I absolutely adored my 2017 Focus RS, but it was sadly totalled when an inattentive driver rear-ended me. I wasn't willing to take a risk on a used RS, so I purchased a 2025 GR Corolla Premium MT. It's not quite as raw and aggressive as the RS was, but it's still a sweet ride that I hope to enjoy for many years to come.
Ouch, I’m sorry to hear that happened, but I’m glad you’re okay! I still haven’t driven a GR Corolla, so I can only imagine how much fun you’re having haha.
Somebody around here has a black one. I have only seen him a couple of times. I have heard him many many more. I can tell he loves that car. Especially around 8:15 pm.
When my dad damaged my Prius suspension, I rented a basic Focus sedan in 2016. Unlike your hatch, the vehicle had fairly poor visibility, a backup camera display the size of a pocket calculator (but worse resolution!), and a basic radio with about 30 buttons. It had the dreaded mechanically unreliable duel-clutch transmission that felt like a manual transmission, which I actually liked how it worked and I got 31 mpg in stop and go traffic in the city. I think that it was a shame that Ford basically ceased their car production rather than fixing the gremlins under the hood. Ford still uses way too much hard plastics inside their vehicles and unfortunately way too much plastic in their engines which bodes dismal long term durability issues.
Haha I like your description of the regular focus. This, like most of the “hot hatch” cars definitely does feel like a pig dressed up with lip stick. An economy car at its roots with A LOT of awesome bits added to it.
I don't think you fully understand what a sleeper is. This car looks modded af with it's aftermarket wheels. Everyone knows what a focus rs can do especially if it's modded. A sleeper should look slow and stock.
I decided to call this a sleeper because I don’t think most people know that there’s a legit performance segment of the Focus platform, at least in the U.S. regular Focus models were pretty low level economy cars. 260HP ST variants were an okay hot hatch, but not class leading or all that impressive. The RS being offered for only 3 years and being fairly over priced when new (not including dealer mark ups and how difficult Ford dealers were to negotiate on these) made them very uncommon and special. But because they’re a Focus without much heritage in the U.S. market I think a lot of “car people” aren’t even familiar with these or would expect 350hp and AWD out of a Ford Focus economy car and just assume it’s another regular 2.0T model. Just my thoughts and opinions.
Haha, that makes a lot of sense. I knew there were some fast small Fords in other markets. But the U.S. market did not get most of them. And the ones we did get were like the Taurus SHO, Fusion Sport, and other larger more expensive and definitely not “hot hatch” cars. 🤪
The Focus replaced the Escort. The Escort replaced the Pinto. When Ford decided to build the Escort, they were targeting the Japanese imports. Everyone I know who owned an Escort would put over 200K trouble free miles. I personally owned one for a job that I had back in college. I was pounding 200-250 miles per day on that car. I had the largest territory of anyone else in my company. My territory was from LA to San Diego and the Pacific Ocean to Nevada. I bought my Escort with 97K miles and paid $900. When I sold it, it had 201K miles. A friend of mine put 170K miles on his Escort when he was side swiped by a semi truck and totaled it. Family members also owned them and loved them. Then when the Focus came out, I guess Ford was trying to compete with the least reliable vehicles on Earth. The Focus started being called the Fucus and it was a well deserved nickname. I only knew one person who owned one and it was in the repair shop more often than my Forester.
Thanks for sharing all of this Doc! While I don’t know that this heavily boosted 2.3L would last 200k trouble free miles, it would be a lot of fun to own and enjoy while it does last haha.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208no way the 2.3 eco-boost aka eco-bust in this focus will do 200k miles. Even if the engine did make it, the trans, suspension and every bit of interior trim would have given up long before that. That's if the trim squeaks and groans to drive you completely mental first.

The RS was produced and imported from Germany.

That’s awesome, I hope it continues to be a good little car for you. Thanks for sharing!
Pray it’s not the automatic. That will be the first to go
@@Lukemarlowe It's a pity because with a manual they are pretty damn reliable
@@superleggera1900 that’s why I got the RS! :D
@@Lukemarlowe You made a good choice! Just watch out for the synchros at higher mileage, otherwise the RS is pretty solid
Nice video, bro. I enjoyed watching your detailed review!
Thanks!! If you like performance cars then you might like today’s video. An 800hp F-150 haha. 🤪

I'm in the UK bud where there is one on every second street. We Brits love our fast fords and hot hatches.

The only thing they got correct with the original focus was the handling. It did handle really well.
