Are homes near the ocean at higher risk for mold?

- Indoor Air Quality is one of the most under-appreciated factors that affect our health. Poor air quality can cause a host of health problems, and one of the most dangerous things we can encounter is mold.
Even brand new homes can have mold if they're not built well. Make sure to have your home inspected before you move in!

Thanks, Cathy. You're a great observational detective.
I live near the coast in northern California. Five years ago my husband and I moved out of our little one bedroom home because the house ( was not even that old,) had a high degree of hidden mold behind the walls. My doctor did a blood test and my mold levels were unreal. It was a wonder I was even alive. Here it is five years later and my health is still suffering, I have to keep up my detox baths, watch my diet, and I have severe joint pain. That being said, I would never consider moving near the ocean ...desert maybe, but not the ocean!!
This is so interesting. I live in an apartment (not by the beach) and I'm looking to possibly move because I notice I have a hard-ish breathing in it. Of course the management won't do anything. Any tips for assessing air quality on possible units before moving in?
So the same applies to living by the sea? Also living very close to the forest would increase the indoor humidity aswell?
It can, just all depends on the weather patterns and location
I don't understand why we build with wood in humid areas. Why not build with materials like concrete, metal, and tile. If we are going to consider a home an asset, we can't build it out of mold food.
