I'm in the US and drive a 335is. The DCT is a beast of a transmission. When going through the gears the DCT really makes the car sound 10 years newer with how fast it switches. Especially if the car is modified. They make a billet DCT pan with larger cooling fins but I don't have any experience with them to say if they are good or not. I can't wait to see what you think of the DCT. Love the videos. Thanks for the work y'all put in for the community.
I have seen the larger pans and they seem very popular for the M cars. Im hoping that with my massive transmission cooler, i dont get any temp issues with the DCT. Kinda interested to see if we can monitor DCT temps from the JB4.
Great stuff as always! I've been wanting to do the Work of installing the new "Go Fast Parts" I finally received from a couple vendors. But we've been have a record shattering heat wave here this week and I just can't take the heat! Being you guys are in Aussie land you would probably laugh at me and my aversion to these temps. But I'm from Canada and I'm not able to take 38C during the day in a stuffy garage. No matter how much I want to put these parts on and get on with the "Vroom Vroom" and the "Beep Beep" etc LOL. I just can't take it. The record broken yesterday was last set in 1896 (during the last global warming scare LOL). But tomorrow is supposed to start dropping so I'll be out there following along with a few of your great videos like the intercooler install and the charge pipe install. I'll save the down pipes install until I have a friend to curse and shout at the bolts with. LOL.
Wow, that's such a long standing temp record. Haha. Im not gonna lie 38c is normal shed temps in our summer, but on the flip side i hate working in temps under 15c.
Super interesting post! Every one of these inspire me more to prepare for a DCT swap on my N54 135i. I've got miles and miles of life left on my 6HP, but when it does finally give out I'll be ready!
Amazing video! I am about to change my DCT filters/fluid soon in my F10 M5. Question... What is the first O-ring you took off called? The one on top. Can I access that O-ring without dropping the DCT out of the vehicle?
I believe its referred to as the mechatronics plug seal. However you do need to drop the box down to do it. My mate from BMW said its normally that o-ring/seal that leaks before any other part of the box.
I hate when oil gets all over garage floor haha. From personal experience, large shallow pans usually work pretty good! 0-to-60 is one of my favorite UA-cam channels :)
Did not know about the plug gasket. Good to know! On zpost its the pan gasket that is most notorious for leaking... have read some posts where owner had its dct pan gasket replaced 3 times. In the end did not even bother anymore with minor leaking. My DCT pan gasket started sweating oil around 100k km so had my DCT serviced. Service already includes new pan gasket, so if you service your DCT regularly it may not be as big of an issue as each time you do... that gasket gets replaced anyway... also pan itself could cause same issue due to warping etc.
IRT aftermarket filters, more for ZF integrated pan/filter they can leak and cause pressure codes, as long as you know you installed one, should you have any type of pressure codes that would be the first place I look.
Great guys. Hopefully the plug o ring can be done by tilting the gearbox down, as it stays in the car while maintained, like I will do. Just the filling procedure left. Thanks for sharing, regards Nico.
I'm about to do this for my car... any advice on tilting the gearbox down while in the car? Any mounts you suggest to focus on? (Or any page/directions you can point me to?) haha!
@@samosasmimosas5831 Hi. No, I don't know.... I have to get the car running properly first. The injectors were not the only problem. So the gearbox is not priority at the moment. Regards Nico

It wouldnt, well not easily. There is no factory software to run the N53 and DCT. Also connecting to the transfer case would require some custom work. Possible, but probably not worth it.

Is that the normal process to install that seal? The stretching had me very nervous!😅 Btw, the conversion to msd81 can be done exclusively with Autohex 2 through the OBD port. That is, the test shop reader will show the donor VIN and then you’ll have to explain, yeah nah, I just swapped my DME no worries mate. 😂
I brought my 2002 330CI which is now completely swapped with a 2006 M3 to the dealer for air bag recalls and they were very confused for a few minutes. But then a mechanic was brought in (they brought up three different vin numbers on the car when they scanned the keys LOL) and he said "oh yea just a minute" took the keys and went away for five minutes then came back a told the desk person "No problem" I have entered it. I just told them the motor blew on the car and so I swapped in this new one from the M3. So it's now officially entered into the BMW network as the Frankenstein it is. (That's Frronkenshteen) LOL. They did the air bag and now I have an pesky airbag light that has a different problem apparently.
