I was on my CrossCountry team. I didn't get any medals but it kept me calm when I was freaking out. I also love running when I'm mad or upset.

actually, you’d be surprised to know short people can do pretty good in basketball. I’ve noticed they are really fast and can dodge taller people more easily since they are light and quick on their feet. They can dribble faster too since their so smol. Of course they have their disadvantages, it’s easy to intercept short people’s passes and they don’t have that extra height boost when shooting, but it’s not the worst. This is coming from the tallest girl on the basketball team.

The best athlete on my high school track team is only 5’7”. He goes 21’ in long jump and can run 100m in about 11.5 seconds. He proves that it doesn’t matter how short you are.

Almost how i felt with the basketball team. I tried our in grade 9 and 10 but didn't make it. I made the team in grade 12 and the coach didn't think much of me until i started to prove myself. i got minute in the last half of the season. In the last game of the season after we lost in the semis and we all got together in the change room for one last speech from coach he said this in his speech, "I only have one regret this year and thats not putting him on the team years ago." That was a great moment. And i was that guy that join track to hang out lol but i was good at high jump.

I love track so much. I'm not a fast runner in anyway because of medical issues but I've made so many friends on the track team and I've loved running since I was 6 and I always have done my best at every practice and every race.

I had always wanted to run in track in high school, I mean sure I was a girl, but I loved to run in PE more than anything in school. The only problem was the track... it was smooth, not many trees around it, and we would have to work in teams... I absolutely HATED that. One thing that helps me run is feeling free, being surrounded by nature, feeling chased so my body will force the extra speed upon me, and running on rough road. Not smooth could probably slip road. I needed the trees, I needed no team because that’s the one thing I hated most about PE, and I needed the rough ness of the road. Why is rough good? Well for one it helps me stop quickly, and two, it helps me go faster cuz my shoes will have something better to push up against to fling myself forward even further(combined with how fast my legs can move and the force I used with my legs to even push at all)
Rule number one, ALWAYS LOOK BACK. AND IMAGINE YOUR WORST FEAR CHASING YOU.
Rule number two, always move your legs fast, never long. The longer your stretches are, the slower. The fast of stretches, to faster. Tho means you will run out of stamina faster if you don’t conserve it well. This is also why I set up a path. A place to run, a place to jog, and a place to walk. Like this:
Walk each corner, run half the straight road, and run the other halves. Since most tracks are made into circly squares.
Tho I had to become homeschooled after my first half a year of highschool, it just wasn’t my thing. The multiple choices of activities, which most I wasn’t interested in, tho I did get into a 3D animation class, but I never really wanted to take it since it was for 3D and I’m more of traditional and 2D. But it was the only other thing I wanted to learn, other than guitar and german. But I’m now teaching myself german and realized that I liked to teach myself more. It makes me feel more accomplished. I just wish I had done it with guitar when I had the chance. Now here I am, almost to summer and became homeschooled at Christmas.
You know. Why don’t you try Cross Country Plenty of trees and rough terrain. You can be unattached of course. I hope you get to keep enjoying running. C:

You might be confused by what 400 meters is. The WORLD RECORD for the 400m is 43.03 seconds and most people in the world could only do 70s if they're healthy. You could be a highschool state champion if you run it in 47s. So if you could run 1/4 mile in 40 seconds, you would be an olympic champion.

I run a 4 59 1600 as a sophomore, which is pretty alright so heres some advice. If you're someone who gets super anxious before races:
1. Smile at the line. You can trick your body into thinking that nervous feeling is excitement. They're not all that different and smiling releases endorphins.
2. Let your body do the work. Your body knows how it feels to push if you trained hard enough. Your hard work won't just disappear overnight. You are a product of not giving up in those workouts or long runs etc. There is no game winning shot that needs luck in a race. Either you are faster than a guy or not. Trust in your athletic body
3. "Try something new" is something my coach always says. Running is a journey to learn more about yourself push your limits. Its ok to fail, but don't shrink away from pursuing that glory. It might not be a medal, but beating yesterday's you is a greater achievement. You don't need to prove anything except that you are not done with your growth.

I half want to join track and field now! (I mean, I am short... 4'10" with running shoes on)
But I think I'll do Cross Country because I am already getting better at long distance. (And the High School coached are complete jerks and only care for the above average kids, rather than everyone. (On the track team)).

Ever end up joining? I've been doing cross country for 3 years and it's my favorite of all the sports I have ever tried. This year I'm trying track (800m) and tomorrow is my first meet.

I never ended up joining track, though I did end up on the wrestling team. I'm not the greatest out there but it was pretty fun!

I didn't really enjoy running, and apparently the coaches are mean, according to my comment (I don't exactly remember writing tbh. Though the high school cross country coach, at least one of them, is actually my current chemistry teacher, and like half the school agrees that he is one of the best teachers in the entire school, and probably a cool coach)
But I don't regret joining wrestling, even though I don't do it anymore (partially because Covid put a halt to it for a while)
Though it is still cool to see all the track and cross country runners doing their best out there. It is pretty inspiring!
I do cross country which fuckin sucks. Do I love it? Hell Yeah. Does it hurt? Hell Yeah. BUT FITNESSSSSSSS
