Goodyear Endurance Trailer Tires VS Offshore Tires | Best Rated Trailer Tire for 5th wheel campers

  • In this week's video we're discussing the best rated trailer tire, the Goodyear Endurance trailer tire.
I have a 5th wheel camper and I chose to put the Goodyear Endurance trailer tire on it because they are made in the USA, and I can trust them to keep my family safe on the road. Lately people have been switching to light truck tires, and these tires are similar to those because they can handle more than the offshore tires that most RVs & Campers come with.
The Goodyear Endurance trailer tire is a great boat trailer tire, dump trailer, or utility trailer tire, and they are some of best trailer tires for 5th wheel campers, and best rated trailer tire for heavy loads I've seen in a while. It's N-rated which is a great tire rating for a tire this size. These have a specialized inner liner and Durawall sidewall technology to keep you safe from air loss and pinched sidewalls, which is something offshore tires don't have.
All in all when it comes to the features, strength, and quality, I'm liking the Goodyear Endurance because it is more like a light truck tire than it is a trailer tire.
If you have a fifth wheel camper and have any questions on how to pull a 5th wheel camper or about fifth wheel camper towing, let me know in the comments below.

The Endurance tires on my 3-axle 20k toy hauler blew up on my last trip (3 years old, 10k miles on 'em, with TPMS), like every other E load rated tire I've ever had on a trailer (never exceeded 70mph, in the cold of winter). After switching to G rated (81mph) All-Steel tires on all my trailers (cargo, flat bed, and now toy hauler), I've never had tire issues. If you're running 85mph with a trailer.....you're doing something wrong.....

Great video and content! This video hits home as I had a blowout this past Monday. I bought a new boat with a new trailer and I thought it assumed a new 2021 trailer would come with new tires. At least 2020 to 2021 manufactured dates. I was running only 65 mph.
    **Update as June 15th 12:35pm.***
Found out this new trailer has 2017 tires all four have code DOT 4817 Rainer ST Load C tires. I cannot believe a brand new trailer has 4 year old tires. There’s got to be a standard from manufacturers to install new or nearly new parts as driving on the interstate is dangerous and having old tires is a serious safety hazard.

Shortly after we purchased our 2020 Cougar I switched the China Bombs out to the GY Endurance's. Several hundred miles later I had one tire failure (delaminating). Contacted GY and they basically said no warranty it's not a passenger car tire. I ended up purchasing a replacement. About 1000 miles (overall) into the tires same thing with another one delaminating. Took it to the local GY dealer and they told me the same thing. GY doesn't warrant ST tires against delamination. I'm like WTH? Again, just to keep consistency with the other 3 tires I purchased a replacement for the second bad tire. So far the other two older and the two replacements haven't delaminated as far as I can tell and I check them religiously before the rig moves. Even at gas fill ups and bathroom stops. Overall, my experience with GY has been unfavorable so when it was time to replace the GY Wrangler's that came on my truck, I went with an entirely different brand. Same with my wife's car recently, it got Bridgestone's. When the Cougar needs new tires again and our boat trailer tires I will not be buying Goodyear.

I have had one set of the old Goodyear marathons and then two sets of China bombs on my ranger bass boat trailer… they all broke belts and ended up being way out of round at 3-4 years old. It must be something unique to this 5000lb single axle trailer. These were 225 75 15. I tried upgrading to load range E China bombs, made absolutely no difference. I always kept the air pressure at 65 psi, but I think the issue may be related to high speeds. When these tires break belts, a 5 inch high bulge appears on the treads about 1/4 of the way around and the trailer bounces down the road. I’ve had both tires do this on the same trip, and only had 1 spare

The key to the Endurance tires is the construction. 2 ply’s of rayon, 2 ply’s of steel and 2 ply’s of nylon. Steel expands when hot. Nylon contracts when hot. This construction literally holds the tire together reducing the possibility of seperation when hot.

I met the guy in a parking lot and towed it home(about 75 miles) and it had a fair amount of sway on the interstate. When I got home I checked the air in them and they were all around 45psi. It says on the sidewalk that for maximum load inflate to 65psi. The trailer is dual axle and weighs around 5k lbs. Should I keep them inflated to the 65psi and would them being on 45psi account for my sway? I use a 2016 f150 supercrew as my tow vehicle with Michelin defender ltx e range tires on it. Hi Matt, I live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and tow a 2015 22ft ATC all aluminum enclosed car trailer, 5200 lb Dexter axles. I am currently running a set of Goodyear Marathon's that are original equipment. I keep them covered and inflated at 65 psi. I tow show cars to different areas of the country during the summer months. Typically 3400 to 3600lb vehicles. I also own an alignment shop (23 years) all I do so I see a LOT of tire issues every day. I do not like Goodyear tires and have seen more of those than any other tire MFG either break or shift belts most times less than half the life expectancy. I am a Michelin man and have been for over 50 years. However Michelin does not make a ST tire to my knowledge at present. Soooo, I am guessing these new GY Endurance tires are the next best thing?? Mine are 6 years old and my biggest fear is a catastrophic blowout ripping my pretty aluminum fenderettes off the trailer. So I will be replacing all 4 early spring. I love the fact they are made here believe me. I detest ANYTHING made in China. Based on your video here I will look into buying a set with fingers crossed. Thank you for this video and looks like you have a very nice shop out there! Much sucess! Thanks brother! Dave

Funny you mention you having a 22' ATC enclosed trailer. I have the same trailer in a 24'. Also had the Good Year Marathons. After 2 of the marathons blew out I replaced them with the GY Endurance and am happy I did. The blow outs didn't do any damage to the trailer other than marring the paint a little. Still, tires blowing should not be something to have to worry about.

Excellent video. Finally someone talks about speed rating of trailer tires and the issues with pressure loss and UV degradation of trailer tires. To my knowledge there are only two trailer tires not made in China; the Maxxis M8008 and the Goodyear Endurance. Some companies try to trick you by using US sounding names, including the use of USA in the name of the tire. Don't be fooled. The damages caused by China bombs far exceeds the amount of money you save by buying the China bombs.
That said, I know 99.9999999% of the people reading this comment and watching this video will buy the China bombs anyway and say "but they are cheaper ". You can't fix stupid.

why didn't you buy a new matching tire for your spare instead of keeping a china bomb? I keep a spare per axle, which stinks because I have a triple axle, but thankfully it's a toyhauler, so I have the room. I admit for my trailer I keep the best of my old tires for spares instead of buying new....9 new tires!! Gah!! Though regardless of how careful I am about my tires ( I'm neurotic) I still have Carlisle china bombs blow....and man do they cause damage! I think I might actually buy 9 new tires this go. Unfortunately these tires have failure rates nearly as bad as Chinese tires. When it comes to tires being loaded heavy its not about who built them, it's about the number of plys and the load rating. these tires are still just 10ply. You need at least 12 to 14ply tires on a tandem axle RV. Goodyear doesn't offer them. I've been crisscrossing the country from coast to coast for 22 years. when I went to 12-14ply tires my tire failures went away. It's true that the tires supplied by RV manufacturers are trash, usually 8ply. This Goodyear is a moderate upgrade, but not nearly as good as stepping up to a 12 or 14 ply tire.

There is no doubt that Goodyear tires are superior to Offshore tires however, to be quick and dismiss offshore tires is really dumb.
There are offshore tires that aren’t Chinese, plenty of competitive tires from Malaysia or Vietnam are really good. There are some brands that you should just absolutely stay away from IE: Double Coin, Dong Zhang Etc
Whereas tires like Fullrun, Atlas, Constancy, Hankook are really solid, good quality and consistent tires. Especially with a global shortage in rubber, and rising tire prices Offshore tires are the way to go.

@@CampusautoCo It really all comes down to Manufacturing Quality, and Engineering. Most major “US” tire manufacturers have plants in China. Since rubber is an almost entirely Asian product, it makes sense. All I know is that there are some genuine solid Offshore tire brands, and they really shouldn’t be dismissed entirely. Personally, I’d recommend getting name brand Steer Tires, and picking out a solid offshore tire brand for drives. Many truckers are using high quality offshore brands and have undoubtedly found great success and consistency. The truth is, it’s not an opinion you can agree or disagree with, it’s fact.
