Claire thanks for the video.
You’re welcome 😊
Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I live in NY so we have had a change in the weather.
Brilliant, mine is just starting to grow now again, and my ficus bambino is just going ballistic, I need to make an update on my channel of how it is doing, much love from South Africa!!!
That is fantastic to hear!
Clair, my f. Fig is dropping big green leaves! And when i was gently dusting some leaves they fall off with the slightest touch. (So stopped ofc) Been in the same spot for over a year, dont suspect root rot. Leaves are hydrated, green, blemish free. I guess the lower leaves are dropping down, those seem to be falling off maybe because of winter. I just hope the lower leaves can grow back so it won't look so empty.
Hello! The bottom most leaves will tend to drop as the plant matures however, it sounds like there may be another issue. Was the plant exposed to any cold temperatures lately? Leaves won't grow back where they once were however, when the plant is healthy you can try and notch in between the nodes to encourage more branches to grow. My FLF has not dropped any leaves, but they are “droopy” my tree is literally telling me it’s sad. And I know it’s because of not enough sunlight, today is day 1 of my FLF using a grow light for 6hrs ( not sure if I should leave on longer ) ….. around how long do you think it’ll take for my FLF to pick it’s self back up? Thanks you’re the best ! ❤️
Thanks for your question! Do you have a bright window your plant can sit directly in front of? Even when these plants are pulled back 1 foot from a window, that isn't enough light for them to thrive. Using a grow light will help! You can use that up to 10+ hours but make sure your plant is receiving at least 8+ hours of darkness for proper transpiration. Droopiness can also be a sign your plant is thirsty. If the top inches of soil are dry, give your plant a drink and it should perk back up.
Hi, Claire, What about a really dry environment. I had a dehumidifier in the same room as my plant to dry clothes and I wonder if this made the room too dry and caused the leaves to turn brown and fall off the plant? I will say the room was dark as I had the blind closed for a few weeks which could have been the other reason.
Hi Chris, it sounds like the combination of the lack of light and too dry of air may have contributed to the leaf drop. If your plant still has sap within the branches and stem, regrowth is possible!
The top two leaves are still alive and new leaves are starting to grow at the top. I'm just keen to grow new leaves further down to replace the ones that it dropped.
My fiddle leaf is a single plant that I got when it was a couple of feet tall. It's now 7 feet. I cut the top off and notched it to make it shorter and get branches. I got one branch and it grew back to how tall it had been. :) Recently it has dropped about a dozen of the original bottom leaves, making it look more like a tree trunk which I like, but I'm still worried about the dropping leaves. It's been in the same window for two plus years, the sunniest spot in the house, southern exposure and floor to ceiling windows, so I don't think it's the light. I did move it about 15 feet along the same window line, but it has the same sun. The dropping leaves don't look like the ones you showed that were the result of root rot. They are turning uniformly yellow and falling off. From about 3.5 to 7 feet, the leaves are dark dark green and solid. I don't see any sign of anything wrong with them. I put a moisture meter in and it says wet, though, even though the top couple of inches are dry. Do you still think it is root rot? I can't believe the timing of this video and that it popped up for me when I wasn't even subscribed! Thank you!
Hi Stephanie, it sounds like you have a great spot for your plant. Some leaf drop may be normal from the bottom as the plant focuses its energy on new growth. However, if there has been a lot of leaf drop, you'll want to check that your pot is draining well our multiple holes on the bottom and that the nutrients in the soil are still there. Soils lose their nutrients after a year or so, it's important to regularly use a 3-1-2 NPK fertilizer to continue supplying a steady dose of nutrients to your plant. That may help stop the yellowing and leaf drop you are experiencing. Happy growing!
Hello Clair, My fiddle leaf isn’t getting enough light and i have nowhere else to move it to during the winter. Is there a special light for this plant i could supplement with?
@@FiddleLeafFigPlantI just repotted my flf and like just after I did that it started loosing its leafs😢😢
I have a FLF that has not grown a single new leaf since bringing it home 3 years ago. It is in a happy environment… Full sun, regular, watering, humidifier present. Just recently it started dropping all its leaves and the branches are very brittle! I notched in between and got white sap but a months later nothing has changed. The most leaves fall post watering. What could be going on?
Hello! It sounds like there may be a couple of things happening. Is the soil the original soil? It may be hydrophobic and not soaking and retaining any water that you are giving the plant. I recommend aerating the soil or if it has been over 2+ years, new soil is recommended. Plants will use up the nutrients from their soil within 1-2 years so it is best to have fresh, nutrient rich soil for the plant. Also, if it is in the same size pot, the plant can only grow as much as the root system. I recommend going up 2"-4" in pot size so the root system has more room to grow and support new branches and growth on top. Happy Growing!
Very helpful thankyou for not going on on on....😊
Glad it was helpful!
I have two FLF plants and both last all the leafs. I wish I have known about you vedios before. Will leaf will regrow if I add some fertilizer you recommended and follow your instructions or buy a new plants
Yes, your plants can come back from bare sticks! Keep them in the sunniest spot, water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the soil drains well out the bottom. For more, please join and post inside our helpful fiddle leaf fig community! fiddleleaffigplant.com/community
I have a huge Fiddle Leaf Fig tree touching my ceiling. I also have a very small one. I was wondering if I can plant the small one in the
large pot with the huge Fiddle Leaf Fig tree. I have room in the pot with lots of soil. I always take your advice, it works. 🌲
I would say keep it seperate
@@Nubiiiiiaaaaaaa Thank you, I agree
Hi Carmen, it is possible to place them in the same pot however, if they are happy in the pots they are in, it is best to leave them be to grow.
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant Thank you Claire. I will keep them separate. 😉
Hi there, thank you for the video!! My mini fiddle leaf's leaves are turning lighter in color and then dropping, no brown spots. He gets plenty of light and I've made my own soil with perlite and bark to avoid overwatering so its not root rot. I had him in the window but it seemed like this was too much light/heat. I live in the desert, so maybe it's too hot/dry for him? I've seen conflicting information about watering needs... He's a small plant, like less than 2 ft and the leaves look really healthy, no spots or anything, just kind of yellowing and eventually falling off... Maybe this is normal? Also, I say him because his name is Barry Manilow - I give all my plants celebrity names. Maybe he's lonely? He's on a shelf now about 4 ft from the window by himself...
Hi Lise, thank you for your question. Are you fertilizing your plant? Sometimes when the plant is not receiving the nutrients it needs, the leaves will be lighter vs. the dark green they should be. A 3-1-2 NPK ratio fertilizer like our Fiddle Leaf Fig Plant Food would be the way to go. fiddleleaffigplant.com/food
Hi. Great info. I have one fiddle leaf plant and it only has one leaf left. My cat was urinating in the plant!!! I have repotted it. Should I leave it alone? Or chop it down to regrow.
Oh no! Hope your kitty has been behaving better. Sometimes placing upside down forks into the soil can detract them from doing that. If you have just one leaf it is ok to chop it down and continue to care for it as you would. Lots of light, water when top inches of soil are dry and ensure it drains properly. It will bounce back!
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thanks. Should I cut the stalk in half? It’s about 6 ft tall now.
Hi! I was hoping you could help me with my fiddle leaf fig. My fig was showing signs of root rot so I repotted it, rinsed the roots, changed the soil, everything. I waited to water it for a couple of days until it started to droop. It’s been 3 days, it’s still not showing any signs of recovery and a few leaves fell off and the entire plant is lighting up in color. Please help, any advice will be appreciated!
It most likely is in shock. When you repot it's important not to disturb the root system and just cut away any dark and mushy roots and repot into a pot with lots of drainage holes at the bottom. Place it directly in front of and up against your brightest window to help it recover. It will bounce back!
My fiddle leaf fig is getting moderate indirect light, has a grow light kind of directly above it so it isnt getting to the lower leaves. It is dropping it's lower leaves at a decent rate, 1-2/week. There are no signs of root rot and the leaves look healthy when they drop. Is this because the lower leaves themselves are not receiving enough light? Like do all the leaves need the same amount of light or if the upper half is getting enough light, is that adequate for the plant? Thanks!
It could be a light issue. Is the plant getting enough water? Make sure the water is draining really well out the bottom drainage holes and the full soil / root system gets access to the water you are giving the plant. I just recently repotted my fiddle leaf fig, and the leaves started to droop. I watched your video on why my fiddle is droopy, and I assumed that it was because of the repot. The only problem is that the leaves continued to droop after a few weeks and started fall off. The leaves loose the dark green color, lighten up and drop. There is not any brown spots other than the edema that I tried to fix by repotting into new, well-draining soil. I have recently watered as well. Do you have any idea on how I can fix this?
Is it lacking the light it needs? Remember that these plants need a lot of light. Even when they are pulled back from the window 1 foot or more, the light can decrease up to 50%. They need to be right in front of your brightest window to survive. It had some pretty significant light, where it was right beside my window but not in front of it. I hadn’t seen any drooping before I repotted it when it was in the same location, but today I moved it in front of the window. I will wait a week to see if it perks back up with the additional lighting.
Hi, are the new leaves sensitive to touch? Because my fiddle leaf. drop off leaves ( only the new ones) if I touch them
Does your plant need more water? Leaves that easily drop may be due to not enough light or not getting the water and nutrients it needs.
💚
I forgot to bring my plan in before the first winter freeze and all the leaves fell off now I have new growth at the bottom and long bear stalks. What do I do?
It will bounce back! Continue to care for your plant as you normally would and make sure it is in the brightest spot you have to help it recover. Chopping the stem down until you see sap will ensure the plant is still alive to be able to fully grow again.
Thank you I did cut the rotted stems down until I seen that it was moist. I don’t know if it’s sad, but it was definitely moist and not dried out.
So I’ve put the cuttings into water and now they have nice leaves and one has roots stemming. One doesn’t. When should I put them pot them?
Congrats on the propagation success! I would wait until you have many roots that are at least 1-2" long. Then pot them in a smallish pot with multiple holes on the bottom. Keep the soil evenly moist for the first month so the roots can take hold. Then you can care as you would for any fiddle!
Hi there! I noticed my fiddle leaf fog is dropping some bottom leaves, but they turn yellow before they fall off, or if I notice them turning yellow, I will snip them off. I don't suspect overwatering, the soil drains very well and I don't water often, and I don't suspect root rot becase the the leaves dont have brown spots before falling off. The started happening at the same time it stopped putting out new leaves (however the new leaves look really healthy!) . Just wondering if this is a concern. I purcahsed him about 3 months ago, and he's still in his nirsery pot. Thank you!!
Sounds like it may need more water! Water when the top inches of soil are dry. When it grows, it is using more nutrients and resources and water from the soil. Continue to water thoroughly so it drains out the bottom drainage holes and add in our Fiddle Leaf Fig Plant Food so it has the nutrients it needs to support all of the healthy new growth! fiddleleaffigplant.com/food
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thank you!;
So my old roommate decided to mover beautiful flf from her sunny, warm, south facing room, to an inner stair well landing that gets the most inderect light amd plenty of cold drafts. I realized recently that she also stopped watering it. All but one of its leaves have fallen off. What can I do to save it? It's too heavy for me to move.
I recommend watering when the top inches of soil are dry and enusring the water drains out the bottom drainage holes. If it is too heave, are you able to have someone help you lift it on a plant caddy with wheels to help you move it in front of the brightest window that is nearby? If it is in a stair well with no light, it will slowly lose all of its leaves due to lack of light.
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant update, i moved the plant but it lost its last leaf the moment i nudged it 😭 it's in a sunny window and i watered it. 🤞🏻 hoping it's salvageable
@@Blluewere you able to save it? has it produced new foliage since then
help, it's in the sun room for years, same light as always, and the soil is dry, not root rot!
So what's wrong?
I repotted last year and it's been happy until this weekend
Hi Amy! Any recent temperature changes? Is the plant getting enough water? Make sure to water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water drains well out the bottom drainage holes.
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant is 1 cup enough when it’s 3 plants in 1? I usually do more but I’m watching your other videos too to try to figure it out. It’s Never happened. I’ve loved my FF and it’s lost 20 leaves In 2 days :(
Does artificial light help in the fall?
Absolutely! A grow light can be helpful in the darker months, or even year round if you plant does not get enough light from the windows in your home.
Or not enough water. I went on vacation and my fiddle leaf fig dropped eight leaves because it dried out 😭
It will grow back! Care for it as you were and new growth will come out soon.
Hi I'm a 15 yr old with a 5 foot fiddle leaf fig. Its been dropping lot of leaves recently and yellowing a lot. What should I do? I recently tried rotating it for more uniform growth but then moved it back as it was yellowing
Is it getting enough light and nutrition? Those are usually the causes for yellowing leaves.
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant it’s definitely getting enough light as it’s by a large window and light from my room also hits it so would it be nutrition then? Thanks
FLF looks good for about a week. Total waste of money! I can grow everything but not those.
I'm sorry to hear that! The biggest thing is the placement of these plants in your home. If they are anywhere but sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window, they will not thrive. Even if they are pulled back 1 foot from a window, it is not enough light for them to survive. Maybe start with a small variety, water when the top inches of soil are dry and make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. It will flourish!
