    Exactly the practical set up video I was looking for! I recently started using a bullet journal to combat/keep track my depression, and I've been scouring UA-cam the past few days for a video like this one where it highlights the ACTUAL PLANNING aspect of journal set up, I too used some loose paper to figure out what pages I wanted to set up and how I wanted them to be organised, your video is so helpful with that! It gave me some great inspiration for making motivational tracking pages and even the wish list page was a good system!
    Most other bullet journal set up videos I've seen focus on the decoration and drawing aspect of the journals, which is great for self expression... but I'm already an illustrator so the last thing I want in my depression aid is to stress out over it looking as pretty as all the other girls' beautifully turned out journals, you know? It's a weird hang up, but the journal is meant to simplify my life and help me focus, not add unnecessary anxiety by making it into work. When creative expression is your job, you have to become very choosy about where you put your energy.
    Hope my rambling was somewhat insightful? Thank you for making this!
    PS: your nails are fabulous.

      Awww thanks so much! But ya I know exactly what you mean! I can see how so much more time and energy can be spent just trying to decorate and get things perfect than use the journal for its purpose. I honestly would be so discouraged if I tried from the beginning to have an elaborate layout but couldn't keep it up consistently. xD Glad I could help

      Maya N I hear you in the whole anxiety and anti anxiety aide adding anxiety. I have OCD as well so just selecting and buying those decorative tapes is agonizing. So here are a few things I'm trying. washi tapes is limited to solid colors with no cutsey prints. Those colors are assigned to topics like Health/Home/Healing whatever it is for you. I have pens that match the topic colors. That way on my daily to do list I can use the color that relates to it. This sounds crazy as I describe it but I think the main idea is to use those tapes or colored pens only if they are actually serving a purpose that helps you. I am being assessed for sensory processing disorder so as much as I love cute stuff my journal is color coded w no OCD and sensory overload inducing decorations. Bullet journal is perfect for tracking health stuff. making a list of your triggers for anxiety can help. I find that stress and anxiety are what can wear me out and make it appear that I look and feel depressed. really I just need to recharge before giving it another go. not telling you what to do. I am learning that it is easy for woman to be given general diagnosis of only the visible symptoms but not the underlying root of the source. As I get new info I have to relearn what I was told before. diet and exercise are also great tools that can help manage mood for me. Namaste

      I used to struggle from depression, and I wish I had done something so amazing as keeping a bullet journal to track my progress. This sounds like a really helpful idea, I wish you the best in your journey 💞

      thank you for sharing your tips! i really love the washi tape by solid colors idea tho im going to take that into consideration! im so glad to find this comment because i have ocd as well. and its hard when i see these bullet journals being all pretty and having a certain layout and in my head i can tell that its not really going to do anything for me, if that makes sense. its a weird process that goes in my head, i want everything to be nice and perfect but at the same time, i know myself and i know im going to focus way more time on the things that dont even matter when the journal should be helping me make my life more simple!

    • @redrockasrama7215

      anna krechetova You just have to do it. believe me I know how hard it is. my hands get so shaky some time I can't draw a straight line or my hand writing looks like scratch. just remember that no one else is even going to see it so the only judge is you and me. we have to make peace with ourselves for this to work. as far as artsy stuff forget about it being in your bujo. bujo is great so just omit the hand lettering holiday theme stuff. we need help not more competition. as far as lay out goes I try to be simple and functional. I just make columns and those are focus areas for me. Body is obvious self care stuff like showering and doing yoga and jumping on the trampalean etc. mind is another column with things like prayer, nature, coloring book etc. so use the bujo to plan and schedule but be open to creating a layout that fits your life. be willing to mess it up because it is so worth it. with OCD it is so easy to get stuck wasting your time and energy on things that we did not really mean to. that takes the time and energy that should have been used on self ❤ and or spiritual progress.

    Let me tell you something. I draw comics and have been drawing my entire life (my character is my avatar) and I never cared to highly decorate my own bujo. This may surprise people but for me it needs to be very simple like yours because most artist have already condense and cramped ideas in our heads that we need a break from with simplicity and cleanliness if we work on other things. It keeps the mind focused. So for anyone who may feel defeated before you start please don’t. Doodle if you have to me to waste or if it mentally helps you but don’t make it a priority. This is really a good simple set up here. My eyes can go straight to the point.

    I started my first ballet journal around February of this year after I had seen my seat mate at school use hers. So I impulse bought a cheep bullet journal. (surprisingly it has nice paper but I can’t figure out the paper weight/gsm) I used my digital notes app to gather little notes and pictures of bullet journals and how I wanted to do mine or what things I wanted to add- it was a lot let me tell you and I’m glad I was able to do a nice set up.
    I for one like a good theme I can doodle or add washi tapes too since it makes me come back to my weekly set ups and see what’s going on since I’m always so unorganized and have terrible time management. But now that I’ve gotten into the groove of things I’ve been looking more into minimal setups I can use for the next school year to make sure I keep up with in school and out of school activities.
    I liked how you showed your planning process for this in the video and it was fun to see how you set your bullet journal up!

    I'm using the travelers notebook for bullet journaling now. I like to keep my collections in a separate book so I don't have to transfer them to a new every year.
    One suggestion, create a future log instead of that monthly future section.

    I really love the simplicity of your journal & the nice small font of your layouts! I've been bullet journaling since September & so I just recently added a divider page to make way for 2017 -- I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I want to reformat my habit/self-care tracking & my monthly spreads. I still enjoy my dailies, which look a lot like yours, actually! I like to write out the entire week all at once, as well, for the same reason. I also don't mind having extra room on certain days because that gives me space for more "mental notes" or task-specific lists [like if I plan to go to the store & only need a couple things, I might as well write those next to or below the task].

    • @ZijnShayatanica
      @ZijnShayatanica 8 років тому

      I also really like the black-&-white look. I incorporated navy blue & dark purple pens, as well as blue/purple/green highlighters. It's a little colourful but not more than necessary to maximize productivity.

      @MonicaXGuan  8 років тому +1

    I am currently in the rabbit hole of bullet journals and I love this it's very clear and minimalistic, tip though you play around with your hands a lot it's a little distracting!

    your bujo is so beautiful! I try to keep mine a little bit simple but with some doodling in the headers. Also, I think what you meant by categories were collections, maybe? This is what the "bullet journal community" usually call that kind of themed pages that don't belong to yearly, monthly, weekly or daily spreads hahah.

    Great vid! Have a question though: it seems to me that you don't have a Future Log. How do you plan in advance for the upcoming months?

    • @MonicaXGuan
      @MonicaXGuan  8 років тому

      Actually yup I should have done that lol totally forgot, maybe I'll add a small one next to my year overview, but at the last page of my month I left a space for future notes.
