This is a fantastic mouthpiece - a friend and I were raving about ours (bought independently) just this morning. We both feel it has moved our clarinet playing (Buffet E13s) up a gear and I can't recommend it highly enough. I've yet to find a decent V21 reed (still using V12s) but I'll keep trying!

Try the 56 Rue reeds as well. I think they match better. IMO

How consistent are the BD5 mouthpieces? My private instructor says they vary a lot, and that's the only thing stopping me from purchasing one.

You should always try many. Maybe you like 2 out of 8 Vandoren mouthpieces. SImilar to the reeds.

So V21 reeds match perfectly the BD5. What number is recommended?

MANGARVID I would say find a reed comparison chart if you don’t use vandoren currently and match it up, and also it supports harder strength reeds better, I would say around 3 or 3.5 V12's would be perfect tho like 2.5 might be fine

I use a V21 3 reed but my clarinet setup is much more resistant than a standard Buffet. So definitely either 3 or 3,5 depending on your clarinet and barrel.

I don’t think the V21’s match with this piece. Try 56… or V12 or traditional.

      I don't use V21, 56 Rue Lepic at 4.5 or 5 strength is best.

It is Good, but Not the piano in the very high notes at 2:24.

It's not bad. But I think it's more the clarinet than the mouthpiece. The high register is a known weakness of buffet clarinets.

I mean that last one was the highest note on the instrument, you have to give credit for hitting it at that dynamic level.

The high notes are good. I think the reed is a bit dry. The lower registers dont speak though.

@@gameaddiction7731 it wasn't the highest note at all! Lol. What he played was on purpose there was not error or fault in the mouthpiece or his instrument at all

Bonjour Pascal ...
