I played this for my 86 year old father as he lay dying three years ago. I was with him, he was not alone. And I’ll never hear this song without thinking of him of course. Heard her do it live in Louisville a couple weeks ago. God bless you Mavis.
Mavis Staples is a national treasure! There is so much richness in her voice.
This song touched my heart Mavis. I was watching the series "in the dark" on Netflix and this played during Season One Episode Five. The words , "a broken heart, a broken dream. Isolated and afraid. Open up this is a rain. You are not alone" touched my heart, with tears of hope. I googled the lyrics and found you.

Got turned onto this from The Bear on FX-makes sense a choice as show is set in Chicago and Jeff Tweedy wrote it(show has great soundtrack chooses interesting lesser known songs) My knowledge of Mavis is very limited but am seriously considering going to a show that’s coming up near me.
