  • This week, I wanted to share some of the fun things I've gotten or been given over the last few months, including an Eshakti haul! Plus, one of the Eshakti dresses needed some alterations to make it more flattering, so I'll show you how I fixed that as well.

    I like all of the pieces you obtained and can't quite understand why your mom does not appreciate the first dress. The vibrant orange is so lively!
    But the black skirt with the bow sash is my favourite 🖤!
    That being said I think it's only logical that this company hired you as a plus size model because you'd be perfect for the job! Greetings, Rebecca!

    The stitching lace on the ruffle is called entredeux. It's an heirloom stitch that joins fabric (especially gathered pieces) in a decorative way. The Edwardians used it a lot. My sewing machine (from 1992) will do this, so I'm sure your's will, too. It needs a wing needle, though.

    Thank you Rebecca! I wouldn't have had a clue how to go about fixing that dress, and you made it look miles better. Thank you for being real with us, because we are real too! And I also love how the fabric of that second dress you showed us looks like summer and ice cream 🤩

    For a while, Eshakti was just about the only place my wife (who is 6'10") could find cute femme clothes that fit her! She's had great luck with Torrid lately, but Eshakti remains just about the only place to stock cute winter clothes in her size...She got a wool (blend, i'm sure) maxi skirt there two winters ago and it's huge and cozy and just perfect!

    I've been admiring the orange and blue checked dress in your videos - both because the fabric is SO nice, and because that square neckline is so fattering on you.
    With regard to altering the red dress, our minds work very differently - my mind went straight to adding a fitted "belt" or waistband inside the elasticated part so it can be fastened once on, and the elasticated part would just sit smoothly over it.

    i bought a dress from eshakti YEARS ago when it was all done in india and shipped from there. it took a couple of months to get, if i recall. but with it being handmade for met, etc, i knew that it would. i made the stupid mistake of just ordering my "standard" size and when it finally arrived, it fit my mother in law nicely...... if i order again, i will do my measurements. lol. about 3 years ago, i found an eshakti floor length dress at goodwill. aside from the armbands being very snug, the dress could have been made to fit me. it is so pretty and i get a lot of compliments on it. i need to find a way to fix the armbands are just removed though because my bat wings just do not fit. i LLOVE that they have pockets and you can get all of the customizations on them.

    I love that Red dress. Great Job on the alterations. I am not much of a sewist, or seamstress, but I think it fits you better than it did originally. The top was super puffy in the chest and breast area, after the alters were in, it was much more tailored looking, better shape, not too much on puffiness. I wish I could be in the SeaTac area for that show. I love "Singing in the Rain". Although nothing beats "Cats", followed by "Grease"!

    Love the way the alterations turned out. Never would I have thought to straight sew lines to loosen elasticated rouching (sp?), That was genius! There is a trend in using more plus sized/inclusive models for clothing. I'd like to see this company actually use plus sized models, I'm not talking just a size 12 either. Maybe they will offer you a modeling job!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  Рік тому

      I've mentioned to them before that since they are so size inclusive in their range, they really ought to have plus size models, but obviously they haven't done anything about that unfortunately. I'm glad you enjoyed the video though!

    I love all the clothes you get from Eshakti. You have the patience of an angel; I think I would have taken all the elastic thread out of the red dress, which would have created more work. The detail above the bottom section is an insertion lace called Entredeux.
    I have no idea what kind of work you do, but I truly hope you find a new job soon!
    Have a wonderful weekend,

    The fabric of the red dress is dreamy. Dolman sleeves aren't my thing, either, but you did a good thing by reshaping them. Gonna be a scorcher today...glad I did the Puyallup YESTERDAY. lol . You might try that puffed sleeve, not quite Elbow length, but darn close to it. The current length cuts a bit close to the same as the neck line and I think if it is closer to just above waist line, it would be even nicer than it is. Love the color actually, very nice I do like the eshakti concept haven't used them as yet.

    The orange dress looks great on you! Not sure why your mom doesn't like it, but oh well. When I say I hate orange I actually mean that I hate it on me. It makes my skin turn a horrible shade of liver failure yellow. On your skintone it makes you look bright and glowing. Huge difference. So I don't really hate orange, it's pretty, but I must admire it from afar on someone it looks good on.

    For the issues like the red dress, you might consider, just an idea, making a long line bra. as in one that goes to your waist, and I do mean make it, because I've never seen one that fits right that is mass made. again just an idea for your modern clothes. front closing of course.

    I've taken elastic thread out of shirred/smocked (it's actually shirring, but some will insist on calling it smocking) waists. If yours is made the same way, it won't unravel. (Just FYI if you ever end up with another one.) Mine was done as individual lines of stitching, so I had to painstakingly remove each and every row (and they were serious when they anchored those rows). Sadly, my alteration wasn't quite as successful, as the dress was also a wrap that was.... erm..... not intended for a bust shaped like mine. (Hey, clothing designers: Not all "generous"/plus-sized/very curvy boobs sit the same on the chest, even with bras.)
    But I'd be quite interested in knowing how to change the curve on a dolman sleeve to get that more fitted look. I've given up on altering a few dresses/tops because I couldn't wrap my brain around fixing that. Most recently, an empire waist that was placed at a rather unfortunate spot. I had decided to lift the whole thing above my breasts, but that stupid curve was in the way, and I eventually decided re-cutting and likely re-piecing was just too much work.

  • @HealthyDisrespectforAuthority

    I've used eshakti a lot.. they have an amazing neckline that doesn't appear much anymore.. it's what they call a shaped scoop.. it's wider at the bottom of the scoop than the top.. and because I'm five foot fourteen with a low breast line (13") I ask for extra low, which doesn't even get close to being over exposed on me. My favorite hem of theirs is the 4" above the ankle.
    Matching thin belts can be purse straps..
    that second dress.. the fabric, or a variant in colors of the stripe comes back every couple years.. I have an oversized art smock out of it... they called it a dress but again.. I'm Sasquatch tall.
    Along with the smocking to keep watch for, their "cotton jersey" is not lightweight t-shirt jersey.. for me, in the south, it's winter weight... maybe 4 t shirts thick.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  Рік тому

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions I haven't seen it in a minute either.. not on the product picture anyway.. it turns up in the custom options sometimes. It's usually a knit dress neckline.. can't say I've seen it on a woven.

    I love the concept of eShakti, but I've had some fit issues with dresses I've bought from them, which has cooled my enthusiasm.
    I am busty, and even though I have given my shoulder to waist (over bust) measurement, for some reason they are always still too short in the front bodice! The waistline will be at my waist in the back but right up under the bust at the front. I even added 1" to this measurement last time, and still!

    Yo, Costco has Liquid I.V and I've been drinking it for migraine recovery for years. I also find most of them taste great watered down (like, they say 1 packet for 16oz, but I prefer half a packet at most). The ginger is my favorite caffeine one (and it does look like a swamp), and passion fruit for super watered down (tastes like.... generic idea of flavor).
    I'm so excited for you to get contacted by them!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions

      The passion fruit hydration one was the one that I really didn't like. It tasted salty to me for some reason? I agree that watering them down a bit more than it says on the label does make them tastier, though I feel like you basically just can't go wrong with that lemon ginger one.

    I hate hate hate an elastic waistband!!! Like, why? Why is it even a thing? I am heavy and I carry all of my weight in my belly. It’s hard enough to find clothes that fit in the first place, why do they think we need a waist band to cut into our waist? It’s unflattering and uncomfortable!
