    I got definite Dorothy vibes there with you and Lion, even though I don't think Dorothy wears that colour anywhere in the film. I love the way you imbue everything you do with fantasy ❤

    I haven't finished watching this yet but I'm sure your finished dress is going to be gorgeous! Your sewing skills are goals and I'm amazed at your ability to Feanken-pattern and make it fit so beautifully. I didn't notice the doubled daisies until you pointed it out, and the puffy sleeves totally drew my eyes away and I didn't notice it unless I was specifically looking, which is weird, because bust points. So anyone who notices on their own is just telling you they're a weirdo bust watcher. 😄
    Also, I hope that by finishing your summer dress you force the weather to cooperate and give us some desperately needed rain. On that note, I plomise I'll wash my car this week. It can't hurt, right?
    The discoloration on the fabric reminds me of what I sometimes see on fabrics when my washer is a jerk and doesn't fully rinse everything out. I now run every load with an extra rinse because my sensitive skin hates being itchy and I notice a lot fewer spots on my jeans and darker fabrics. Hope that helps!
    Edited because the finished dress is so beautiful and it looks so good on you!

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 роки тому

      Thank you! And you're probably right about the discoloration coming from soap residue (hence why it luckily washed out!)

    I love it. The footage of you running down the path reminded me of a concert I went to many years ago. One of Bette Midler's back up dancers had a body just like you and me. She was a hot, energetic, talented, plus-sized dancer. Hurray for you and Bette and her dancer, for being out there squashing stereo types!! I hope your rehearsals are going great. It can't be easy going from sick bed to stage.

    If they are embroidered, you could try on a scrap to see if you could pick them out.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions

      I'd rather add the 12 missing ones in, than pick all the others out! Or are you talking about the ones on the bust point? I think it would leave major scarring to take them out (embroidered things usually do, since the needle has punched so many holes).

    I made my daughter a dress with that material …the daisies were on blue light blue back ground. A few of them were missing their centers. I just embroidered them on. Others were missing their white petals also got embroidered. I was not happy with that but it was fixable.

    Really recommend the Selkie-dress (Batsheva started the trend 4+ years ago) trend as something to go for no matter if you are the type to buy or sew! I wear a very utilitarian form of cottagecore/history-bounding and was worried the princessy-dress trend would be too much for me but I finally saw my "perfect-for-me" selkie-style dress and picked it up. It's really been a game changer to have one; I didn't know what I was missing and I feel like I have a piece of fashion history; this trend really took off because of what's happened over the past few years and I think it's very representative of a snapshot of time (like a flapper dress, a poodle skirt, a disco jumpsuit).

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 роки тому +3

      I hadn't thought of it that way, but I think you're totally right. Selkie is a great combination of cottagecore and princesscore, which I agree are kind of the two biggest trends to represent the "pandemic-era"

    Another, beautiful, well fitted dress. I have plans to make something similar for my wife for Christmas, using a Christmas print fabric. Like you, she can get away without using a zipper on most of her loose fitting dresses, which makes the sewing so much easier. (I hate doing zippers)
    So glad the stains washed out. I remember just finishing a white summer childs dress for my niece and was just doing the final iron when my iron decided to spit out a hugh rusty colour stain right on the front of the skirt.

    Awww look at Lion💜💜💜 absolutely gorgeous dress! I absolutely hate when elastic do the wibbely ting, I always throw all of it away since I don't trust it anymore.... About the dirt spots, maybe Dora have been using this as a sleeping spot? Or at lest used it once after being outside, maybe in the rain! And it's probably easy to hand embroider the yellow spots in.

      I still need to pattern last year's 1910s dress! I also always feel weird about the idea of patterning something I cobbled together from commercial patterns - I don't know where the line is drawn for ownership.

    • @phranerphamily
      @phranerphamily 2 роки тому +2

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions when I was in fashion school it was made clear you only had to change one line to make it "your design". I did think about it before I posted my comment and I think you have changed both of the patterns you used. The neckline in the bodice is the biggest change obviously but it's a circle skirt and a puffy sleeve honestly those are basics that even the pattern companies can't lay claim too. The way you put them together with modifications especially for us bigger girls in my opinion makes it unique.

    According to my pattern-making book, this excess fabric under the arm is because there should be a wider dart on the shoulder (pattern makers usually don't like that dart so they make is so it's compensated in other places... can't remember where 😣)... i have the exact same problem with literally every commercial pattern so i'm intending to try that out (when i'm less exhausted from work though)!

    I’ve heard that the armpit fabric can be dealt with if you do your bust darts differently. How they have to be done depends on your individual body shape, but boobs are dumb like that. I personally have to do two darts, horizontal and perpendicular, even if it’s a off the rack thing I’m buying. Otherwise it just straight up won’t fit okay

    you say you hope you get many chances to wear it before summer is over. why can you not wear it beyond summer? i have never understood the concept of seasonal clothes with the exception of perhaps shorts and short dresses/skirts. i live in kansas and we get extremely cold winters. i just put a coat over whatever clothes i like. if its a strap dress, a cute blouse under it, which i've seen you do lots of times. i'm just curious about this, not judging. super cute dress. i'ld like to try to make as similar one.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  2 роки тому

      For this one, it's really the sleeves. They won't fit in sweaters, and I'm not sure if it will fit in a coat (but also, if I'm wearing a coat, then I would want to be wearing long sleeves). That's why I was a little tempted to make this a jumper dress at first, since those are so much more versatile for changing seasons.

    As an alternative to the elastic, would it be comfortable enough to put in little straps on the inside of the sleeve. Like suspenders or garters, where the straps are the length you like, leaving the sleeve itself to puff up? Almost like an inner sleeve but a few straps instead of full fabric.

      That's an interesting idea, and it sounds like it would work similarly to bustle tapes, but elastic is way easier!

    Hey, did you ever figure out how much yardage you started with? I'm very fond of cobbling patterns together and therefore am never sure how much fabric to buy!

      I think it worked out to 5.8 yards. I have a feeling I bought 6, and lost some due to shrinkage.

    Since the daisies are embroidered, couldn't you pick out the extra flower on the LSF?

      It would wind up leaving a really big scar.

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions sometimes I have picked off embroidery to find it marked but steaming the spot refreshes the base textile. Be worth trying a scrap to test.

    Love!!! So pretty! Also your shoes are adorable, where did you get them?

      Thanks! They're Aravon brand shoes, and I got them on Amazon, but unfortunately they must be last year's model, because they're sold out!

    The dress is very cute, but that belt I cannot approve of. A white one would be much better. A man on a galloping horse will never notice the flowers missing their centres, as my mother would have said!

      I honestly agree. I thought it looked cute when I put it on, but looking at the footage, I don't like it. It's too narrow and too pale. I've since worn it with a wide black one, and that's much better.
