This gets me so jacked up....it makes me feel like I can run my fastest mile, lift my heaviest weight, overcome any obstacle. If I put this on repeat for 5 years I'll be the next Mr. Olympia.
is there a video of nolly writing this? I'm just curious how people know which member write which riff. I mean these guys play so much together it's hard to tell. Everyone thinks Mark wrote the Omega intro, it was really nolly. shit even Spencer plays guitar.
+Drewski914 if you watch there studio update nollys playing it but plus mark holcomb had an hour long live stream and said he basically wrote all the riffs for this song.
+Andrew Record right on, I haven't had a chance to watch much of the studio updates and what not for PIII but sometimes it just seems like people just assume oh Mark wrote this riff or Misha wrote this riff, blah blah blah, when they really didn't. It really doesn't matter though, it's a group effort in writing an album. This song fucking rocks though. I'm really digging everything they have released so far on p3.
Nolly also mentioned on facebook upon releasing this song that it was one of the songs he has had most input in. Besides that they showed a little instagram clip of him playing the intro riff. Either way, all 3 guitarists have their own distinct style, and for fans/guitarists who are a little familiar with them it's sometimes very obvious who wrote a certain part.
So I met Jake two days ago at the guitar clinic he's currently doing in South America and he literally told me and my boyfriend that this song is about being drunk 😂 now everything makes sense. Spencer is so complex with his lyrics, would've never thought about it.
It's funny, considering he's the vocalist for my favourite band of all time you would think the lyrics he sang would matter to me but they literally never have. I'm here for the harsh vocal technique and his pretty sounding melodies. Every lyric of periphery's could be swapped out with "Duck" and I'd still think all of their songs were bangers. 😅 But tbf, look at the lyrics to Totla Mad from their EP: "Strip away all the excess components Unveil a picture one sought to hide Personalities are like fiction The derivative truth but with no substance Violence and hate Nourishment territory and mate We are the product of some experiment While most live in ignorance Some can't accept" Like... that could mean anything, or at least a good amount of things but it's never really clarified any further. A lot of the time I feel like they're just saying vaguely metal sounding words cause it sounds good and no one's really keeping score haha
I love reading these comments. I think it's because it's nice to know that other humans love this bands work since some of my friends are tools and don't get it.
What an assembly of musicians.. holy fucking shit. Been listening to them since Misha's first demos, but I still can't get over their talent. I just hope they'll end up being legendary like the greats of the earlier eras.
just heard this album yesterday, and i just couldn't get enough of the melody layering and the progressions these guys pull off. i don't care if they know theory or not. all i can say is that the mixdowns are super tight, and that they have great taste and ears for music
0:17 That tiny little riff man, repeated by the bass and the other instruments. The moment Spencer starts singing. Fuck me that's the best second of my life.
No disrespect man, I loved them when I first heard them, went hours out of my way to see them on the first tour just, haven't been blown away by anything since. I still like them and still listen just not blown away like I was at first.
The best songs on the album haven't been released yet ;) Look out for Lune and Habitual Line-Stepper.

I agree man. I'm still a fan of theirs and respect them but their music just doesn't resonate with me like it used to. Maybe I burned myself out on their music.
My cousin and I have talked about this quite a bit. We're both sort of in agreement that everything from Bulb writing riffs before Periphery became a thing, up until for him PIII and for me PIV... it's like almost 100% gold. Banger after banger and my life literally would be different if I'd never heard them. Listened to every song in that bracket literally >1400 times. Then everything after Reptile? I can't explain how much I WANT to like it the way I like their other stuff but I just.... can't. It just doesn't move me like the other songs do. In fact they don't move me at all I'd almost go as far as to say they sound boring and samey. It makes me sad. :(
I was implying he went all out, even more so than on other tracks. Do you actually have something to say? Or is commenting with 1 word on a positive criticism the most effective use of your time?
ok i've listened to a ton of instrumentals, spencer kills it, his flow and sound is so sick, really fills the space, however i can't argue with those who don't like his cleans.
I'm really glad I like the cleans. There are other great bands with a similar style of clean vocals but they're deal breakers to me. Taste is weird and random sometimes.
The first time I heard this song it's like the Riff just slapped me in the face and said "you're my bitch now" and honestly I think it deserves that. The song just hits me in such a special spot. Love the song, love Periphery and their dedication to making amazing music. I still haven't heard quite anything like this and don't think I ever will.
I for one love the fusion periphery does... pop has some great elements that are essential for cohesive compositions, you listen to pop more than you think. those elements are what make pure riffery so memorable and what showcases their imagination and fearlessness

I LOVE the sound of the Alpha-Omega pickups. Here's to hoping they have more in stock some day soon cause I'm too poor to shell out 900 bucks for Holcomb's guitar.
Outstanding. This is the kind of song that make me love these guys. Brutal and technical yet insanely musical. This duality of chaos and beauty bring chills to my bones. Love it!
I could give every positive comment in the book about this track and the others released so far but you can just hear how much these guys love what they do and how much they want to keep pushing the boundaries, they just sound like they're having serious fun and are truly acceptive of the fact that some people will love it and others will hate it. I love it! Roll on July 22nd
I found a video of Mark Holcomb describing the part at 3:40 as "un-musical." Honestly it's my favorite part of the song. I'd say it's still very musical. Even if it doesn't have much in the way of melody, it's got badass rhythm, and music is nothing without rhythm. Also, drums are musical and they don't have anything in the way of melody.
wow this song is just amazing. Best one of the new ones so far. This album will be marvelous. the riffs are just so fucking good! And that breakdown hit me pretty fucking hard. Sick track.

He's such a kickass guitarist alongside his bassplaying!

you can kinda tell if you follow the guitarists you kinda get to know their individual styles and can kinda pick out bits that are most likely theirs
I honestly think this could be one of Periphery top tracks, who's with me?😎😃
Nah, habitual probably
it's a tie between habitual line stepper and absolomb

"Strip away all the excess components
Unveil a picture one sought to hide
Personalities are like fiction
The derivative truth but with no substance
Violence and hate
Nourishment territory and mate
We are the product of some experiment

Like... that could mean anything, or at least a good amount of things but it's never really clarified any further. A lot of the time I feel like they're just saying vaguely metal sounding words cause it sounds good and no one's really keeping score haha
That Intro riff omg. Whatever chords/notes are ringing out sound so orgasmic
That riff is my favorite from the album. Soooo damn sick and groovy

the chord progression in the intro and through out the song is probably the best I've ever heard. This song is simply amazing.

This album is spicy.
I love this whole entire song, but that chorus... it’s phenomenal. The dislikes are probably people who didn’t get their prayers answered
Idk why but alot of people absolutely hate sp0nce's voice. He's like my favorite vocalist, don't get the hate that people have toward him lol
Dustin Sterling Exactly, I don’t get it, what’s all the backlash for?
so happy I stumbled upon these a few years ago, bands like this make me proud to be a metalhead, so much talent between them all it's unreal!
Whoever came up with the vocal melody in the chorus is a fucking genius
I guess that would be Spencer the vocalist.
I think it was Mr MEESEEKS.
They did all the instrumental tracks first and sent it to Spencer to add vocals. He picked the parts on where to sing and what not.
Kevin Tran that's an interesting way to do it
