Thank you for this incredibly beautiful video of Karen when she was still healthy and strong. Her untimely death was such a tragedy and can be lain squarely at the feet of Hollywood. And it's only gotten worse ... MUCH worse. The world lost one of its most magnificent talents when we lost Karen. (Not to minimize Richard ... also a great talent & fantastic, loving brother & musical partner)
Once upon a time I bought a tape cassette about 20 years a go some Bands "dn't remember its name really" got this song covered in sort of RAP version it begins with a Saxophone instrument first , anyone out here ever came to listen to ? please if ny of you knows the name of a cover song REPLY .. What a loss was Karen's early death! Her voice and style was so pure and unique. The quality of her voice and performance cannot be compared with any singers that I know since she passed away. I feel her presence every time as I savor her voice and singing that goes straight to my heart! Thanks for sharing.

My goodness! This is live and not a recording, and still she sounds just as if she were in the studio. No wonder why she was known in the business as "One Take Karen" for she always got it right on the first take, She was just incredible and brilliant on all fronts. We miss you Karen...
Me, too... :( I cherished their vinyls & still am saddened knowing how Karen was suffering all along and none of her public knew until it was far too late...extremely sad.
It's very sad what happened to Karen Carpenter. So beautiful!. So young! With a very angelical voice. Now "A star in heaven".God bless you Karen Anne Carpenter! Brazil and the world love you. Forever and ever!
I haven’t heard such an enchanting vocal like this in a very long time. It’s almost as if the instruments solely exists to embrace her voice when she sings.
Love how she changes up the drums here compared to the studio version (which i believe was played by a session drummer.) such a subtle difference but it makes the song so much better imo. The most underrated drummer of all time as far as i’m concerned
Poor Karen Richard hogged the spotlight and it seemed he was the favored one of the family I can relate to that and I can relate to how she felt I’ve been anorexic since I was 15 I’m 28 now it’s a horrible thing to go through I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone
"Karen Carpenter was the voice of a generation because she was a simple girl singing about the simple love, without morbid intentions. If she had singing wearing a bikini, for example, she doesn´t obtain the same sucess than she obtained"
Karen's voice is, simply, beautiful. It's so effortless the way she sings. And if you really want to appreciate it, listen to someone else cover one of these songs. And she did this live, in the 70s with that tech, no harmonizers, etc. And her hubby on the mighty Wurlitzer!

No era su esposo!! Era su hermano!! (Brother).
I was a little girl when this song came out and I am astounded that Karen is playing the drums AND singing! She was really talented and probably would have given Phil Collins a run for his money!

Of course Karen's voice is beautiful, but she was also a kick-ass drummer. An all around musician and perfectionist...unfortunately perfectionist to a fault.
How fun was that!! I loved them both. I'm sure this is the first time I've viewed this video, I knew it existed, but never seen this segment. I think I remember that they were touted by the reviewers at that time as "Young America at it's very best". When Karen sings, and others have said this, I swear, when she sings, it sounds as if she's right in front of me, singing directly to me. I still miss her terribly. I can hardly watch her and listen to her without becoming emotional, and getting all weepy.
Karen was an amazing talent with her voice and her drumming. Some of these female singers today think they can sing and think they have got talent, they haven't got a clue. I am not being sexist by saying 'female singers' I can't compare Karen to male singers can I. No disrespect to Richard Carpenter he was good at everything he did but Karen was the driving force behind the Carpenters. Richard was a good pianist and a good song writer but without Karen to sing the songs I think he would have just been a song writer and not much else. I think that Karen would have made it big with or without Richard but Richard would not have made it big without Karen. Any decent song writer could have written the songs that Richard wrote and Karen would still have sung them and been the big star that she was even if she had been a solo artist but Richard on his own without Karen, I don't think so. I don't dislike Richard at all and he is talented but Karen 'was' the Carpenters. That's just my opinion though. I am 50 years old and grew up listening to the Carpenters among others as well.
Karen Carpenter was the greatest female voice of my lifetime. She had more talent in her pinky finger than I've got in my body. She was and, by the way, still is the greatest natural voice I can think of. Her death was a tragedy among tragedies, and I still miss her greatly. God bless your memory, Karen!
It actually is surprising you say that. Karen did go solo once, but that ended up being a disaster. Though, you're without one, the other would have sunk.
Isnt it wierd that some people were born to do great things and create something beautiful like this .being born when they were and at the right place at the right time .
So humble. So many singers just start twerking after a they finish singing their song. These guys bow all the time, in all their concerts and performances.
I remember when my parents played this song. Often it would be on the many long trips that we took. I always wondered what face went with such wonderful voice. It's so soothing. No one has had a voice like this woman. I don't know much about her death, but I know she was fairly young when she died. How sad. I hope to meet her in the resurrection here on earth very soon.
This is true, raw talent. Sounds like a studio voice, absolutely flawless. Compare it to today's "artists" that get invited to the White House, who first have to check their Glocks with the front door attendant.
That's how it sounded live at the White House. How many acts could sound like that live aside from the Beatles and a very few other greats? The Carpenters were astonishing.
I always loved pink floyd live, with all of their extended instrumentals they did live. However, david gilmour or roger waters don’t come close to karen’s voice
Miley Cyrus : you'll never play at the White House. Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice and was total class. Nearly 45 years later her songs are still being played.
Even though it was first a Lynn Anderson hit, and that's the version I grew up listening to - I love both versions. The story goes, Lynn Anderson and the C's were performing together at a Nixon Whitehouse function in '72 . Lynn told Richard she loved that song, "Top of the Word," in their latest album. As the writer, Richard told Lynn & her producer-husband, wish you would do something with it, 'cause Karen hates it ...she calls it that "hillbilly song." Well, Lynn, her producer-husband & CBS records did something with it, and it became a #1 cashbox / #2 billboard country hit for Lynn in early '73. Once the C's label saw the potential, they went in the studio, reworked the arrangement & instrumentation to sound almost identical to Lynn's version (they even added steel guitar as was in Lynn's version ... the only recording of the Cs to have prominent steel in it), and then released it as a single. Word is, Karen still never liked the song - not even after it proved a hit for them. As a songwriter, you must imagine that Richard knew, as hot as Lynn Anderson was at the time, it would surely be a hit - with her name and a major label like CBS promoting it. Hence, the reason he gave his blessings.
Karen had a flair for comedy. She always did the "yee-haw" whenever performing this song live. She is greatly missed.
Pedal steel guitar in it! Country flavor
I never knew that, I heard her "Yee haw" 😄.
I'm just guessing but I thought maybe the "yee-ha" was because John Bettis (wrote the lyrics to this song) moved to Nashville to write country songs. There is a steel guitar in there to though.Karen was always funny! Love her comedy!

There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through,
I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be
just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine
if you are here
I'm on the top of the world
lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever
since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world (x2)
She was Top of the World....and she made it only by herself....with her untouchable Talent...
She wouldn't have died if people would stop judging women by how much they weigh. A talent loss by cruelty.
Thx ^_^
What a loss was Karen's early death! Her voice and style was so pure and unique. The quality of her voice and performance cannot be compared with any singers that I know since she passed away. I feel her presence every time as I savor her voice and singing that goes straight to my heart! Thanks for sharing.
This makes me realize how little harmony there is in today's pop music. Probably why it stinks. :)
I believe this is one of the rare times I've seen Richard smiling when they perform! Lovely song beautifully sung.
the carpenters were so wonderful - karen the voice of an angel richard a musical prodigy- we need them so much today !!!!
I love how she sings the song in this particular version, she really hits her high notes, it gives me chills every time I listen to it
Such a beautiful sweet sounding voice. Love this song so much. Truly great singer. Wonderful live performance. Sounds perfect.
Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in 'most every thing I see
Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream
Everything I want the world to be
Is now comin' true especially for me
And the reason is clear, it's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world
Somethin' in the wind has learned my name
And it's tellin' me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me
There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around

My goodness! This is live and not a recording, and still she sounds just as if she were in the studio. No wonder why she was known in the business as "One Take Karen" for she always got it right on the first take, She was just incredible and brilliant on all fronts. We miss you Karen...
Even live on stage her pitch was near perfect and her tone quality was second to none. It's great to see a healthy and happy Karen on stage.
ya, and there werent many live vidoes of them in 1973, tons in 1974
Still miss her
Me, too... :(
I cherished their vinyls & still am saddened knowing how Karen was suffering all along and none of her public knew until it was far too late...extremely sad.
Me too......
It's very sad what happened to Karen Carpenter. So beautiful!. So young! With a very angelical voice. Now "A star in heaven".God bless you Karen Anne Carpenter! Brazil and the world love you. Forever and ever!
This song always makes me extremely happy!!! Thank you, Carpenters, for helping me love this life more
This is the voice of an angel, if they exist. If they do, she is it.
What stands out is how healthy she looks, long before she became so thin.
I haven’t heard such an enchanting vocal like this in a very long time. It’s almost as if the instruments solely exists to embrace her voice when she sings.
Her voice is excellent perfect so sad to lose her at a time when she should have been on top of the world. RIP forever.
Love how she changes up the drums here compared to the studio version (which i believe was played by a session drummer.) such a subtle difference but it makes the song so much better imo. The most underrated drummer of all time as far as i’m concerned
She looked so happy playing her drums.
Poor Karen Richard hogged the spotlight and it seemed he was the favored one of the family I can relate to that and I can relate to how she felt I’ve been anorexic since I was 15 I’m 28 now it’s a horrible thing to go through I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone
azorpico yes! Spot on! Karen only wanted to play the drums (and sing) but not be the front singer. Good point!
Such a beautiful song. Such a beautiful voice. Everything about this song is beautiful.
Yes indeed!.. it's a perfectly written and performed song, classic and timeless!
the "artists" today can't sing -- all they do is scream
Not screaming. But they make a noise like when you have an orgasm. I don't know what it's called.
Pandu Widagdo I call it ‘histrionic squawking’
true!
@@bobbygrey5834 that's close....
Adele doesn't scream. Buble doesn't scream. Carey doesn't scream. Aguilera doesn't scream. And all them CAN sing.
She sounds amazing live, on par with her voice in the studio!
Richard is her brother.
KidIndigo1 Brother, not husband. They got asked about their relationship quite a bit, apparently.

I was a little girl when this song came out and I am astounded that Karen is playing the drums AND singing! She was really talented and probably would have given Phil Collins a run for his money!
Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in most everthing I see
Mọi thứ em thấy đều ẩn chứa điều kì diệu
Not a cloud in the sky got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream
Everything I want the world to be
Is now comin' true especially for me
And the reason is clear
Và lý do rõ ràng nhất
It's because you are here
Chính là vì anh đang ở bên cạnh em
You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
Em đang ở trên đỉnh thế gian nhìn xuống vạn vật
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found
Đó là em đã tìm được tình yêu của anh
Ever since you've been around
Kể từ khi anh đến bên em
Your love's put me at the top of the world
Somethin' in the wind has learned my name
Có điều gì đó trong cơn gió khẽ gọi tên em
And it's tellin' me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me
There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here
I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation
Em đang ở trên đỉnh thế gian nhìn xuống vạn vật
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found

I really love Karen Carpenter's voice. Simply amazing! One of the best
Of course Karen's voice is beautiful, but she was also a kick-ass drummer. An all around musician and perfectionist...unfortunately perfectionist to a fault.
Your music has put me at the top of the world! Fantastic performers, brilliant artists, unforgettable superstars! Love you so much!
voice is very beautiful ♡♡♡
I love this! I'm a digital native but no music compares to this!
Good that she played for Nixon. Certainly couldn't trust Slick-Willy around her.
...i really really love this song...karen's voice is always my stress reliever...miss you angel...
I can always hear her smile. The Carpenters were perfection ...and definitely the go-to example for string arrangements and sound mixing in pop music.
I missed Karen Carpenters so, so, so much!!!! My favorite of all time!!!! She was the best singer ever !!!!
Yan Lee you're right my friend.Karen Carpenters was the best of the best.If I could I will flowers in her grave. But I pray for her here in Brazil.
I mean if I could I will flowers in her grave, cause I live in Brazil. But the distance doesn't matter. It's just pray for her.
I wanna say to put FLOWERS to a FLOWER named KAREN ANNE CARPENTER.GOD bless Her!
Karen Carpenter, the sweet and beautiful voice, ever!
how can anyone dislike this - Karen Carpenter was so wonderful
So precious and priceless! Rest in peace Karen...♥
Voice of angel, esp from key high to low, stunning n fabulous
Quite a talent to be able to sing like an angel and play drums at the same time....Karen was one of a kind....
Dave Wiseman considering he wrote most of the songs, arranged the music, lead the band and played piano and sang , I'd say he was no slouch.
Dave Wiseman i
it takes two to tango
It actually is surprising you say that. Karen did go solo once, but that ended up being a disaster. Though, you're without one, the other would have sunk.
Isnt it wierd that some people were born to do great things and create something beautiful like this .being born when they were and at the right place at the right time .
So humble. So many singers just start twerking after a they finish singing their song. These guys bow all the time, in all their concerts and performances.
My mom loves this song and she was suprised when i told i like this song. She always wanted to see them live
Compare it to today's "artists" that get invited to the White House, who first have to check their Glocks with the front door attendant.
thank you!
She is so lovely and adorable
Who’s listening to this beautiful Angel 👼 in 2022 with me????
This and rainy days and Mondays are my favourites depends on how I feel
Angel voice
thank you richard and karen.. we are all truly blessed because you have put us on top of the world..
She's amazing. What a gorgeous voice!
Karen had a silky smooth voice and a razor sharp edge to her drumming.
You put me in the top of the World... So pretty...
RIP Karen
i already started to explain my son (born Dec 2012) whats about the magic of the Carpenters
Likee her voice it touches my heart
She was happier on drums, shouldn't have put her out front
the "artists" today can't sing -- all they do is scream
