It's actually refreshing to see another person who also deals with losing definition so fast. For years I thought I was doing something wrong, but learned it's just the way my hair is and to just focus on the health of my hair instead of stressing on perfect definition like "the other girls" which becomes expensive, toxic to my mental health, and delays the success of my hair.

I am the same way. I could never hold a twist out or braid out for more than a day. I’d be luck to make it to two. No matter what product I use or weather 😂. Glad I am not the only one also

@@luciaescobarzagreed. I've lived in multiple climates being a military spouse and it has always been a struggle because what worked in one climate doesn't work in another. The worst was the south. Constantly humid and it felt every product worked against each other and couldn't really tell what was working. By the time I figured out a decent routine it's time to move again lol.

I think any set (braid, twist, rods, etc) done on dry, blown out hair cannot be expected to last nearly as long as a set on wet or even damp hair. Your hair is so thick and thriving! You have more hair in 1 quadrant than I have on my entire head!

I have used the shine and jam on my sons’ hair to make their low fade look fresh. I use it on their hair when it is damp and the fresh look lasts long. Maybe don’t dry your hair, use it wet or damp.

Hey Joy-el. The only “magic product” that holds my twist puts together for a whole week is mousse, especially Mousse def by the Doux. I recommend using a light leave in underneath, but gosh darn does it do the job! I could not believe how well it worked! It’s like I had been living under a rock my whole natural hair journey 😂 I will not use anything else on a twistout/braid out. And I live in Ga where it is almost always 98% humidity (not joking haha). HIGHLY recommend if that’s what you’re on the lookout for. Also sleeping in a buff vs a bonnet did wonders for keeping my hair stretched throughout the week. They sale silk lined ones too!

I haven’t seen your hair in quite a while and OMG- it’s grown sooo much! It’s so long now! As for keeping the frizz at bay, I like to use an anti humidity mist. All it takes is a few minutes outside and my hair will revert & frizz up, but when I tried the anti humidity mist I was so shocked when I went out on a misty/rainy night and my hair didn’t have an ounce of frizz or reversion.

The ORANGE shine n Jam has a stronger hold, is more defined, and reduces reversion depending on the amount used (personally used a nickle size amount).

I got similar results. I used my RevAir, apply the shine n jam, but I just braided my roots and then twisted. Left them in overnight, the definition was pretty ok. I also live in AZ, and it was windy that day, so the definition was gone after i left the house. I did half up, half down, my hair was blowing everywhere, lol. It still looked good. It was just fluffy after.

Yes I love pomades/jams/edge gels! I liked Lusters Edge Gel when I used it. I find pomades to be the best of both worlds, they give you the hold without the crunchy feeling. And I’ve also been experimenting with greases, they give me shine and some nice definition as well. I’ve always hated a gel with a crunchy gel cast because I always thought my type 4 hair was going to break off at the slightest touch😂

Here’s what I do: I actually leave my twists in for a couple weeks as a style. I take them down and wear as a twist out. To keep it from frizzing/poofing up, I re-twist in chunky twists at night the first few nights and add pink oil moisturizer generously when doing these twists. I’ve been able to wear a twist out for 1-2 weeks in the summer, in the south, using these steps. Before this, my hair would never hold up to the Georgia humidity.

Your hair is SO gorgeous and I love that style! I totally see what you're saying about wanting your style to last longer. I think it might be the oil's dissolving in the gel due to the humidity or just with time. I use the Shine and Jam just to define and hold down my edge's and fly away's. It's kinda too heavy and sticky to use all over my baby fine curly hair. Keep looking as you may find the product that will do the trick..I have also tried SO many gel's and cream's..and I'm still searching! Btw..where did you buy that reverse blow dryer? It’s so easy and light and fun and FREEING. Plus after a little while, you get amazing length! After a year or two, you would have the sort of look you have in this video. Hair products dry out kinky hair, by the way. With semi free form locs, all you need is a good clarifying shampoo and that is it. Just my two cents after 5 years of locing. Best decision ever.
